  1. You should replace the convertor if possible. Look it over for wear on the snout where it goes into the pump and where the bushing runs on it. Get a new pump bushing while your at it.You should be able to order that by application. Get the year, model of truck, engine size and number of teeth on the ring gear, if it has one welded on it. Usually you can re-use the bands, just look them over good for bald spots, and also look at the drums that they run on. I hardly ever replace the rear band , and sometimes the front band. A band thats in good shape is just as good as a new one. Look for cracks on the ends of that thin band.if its not burnt or cracked, its ok. I hope you have a book for this job, a must have for a first time job.
  2. Finally something different! Keep us posted, It looks like a good project.
  3. Is the crank sensor mounted in the same place on the bellhousing for a renix and the HO?
  4. I've got an 89 MJ 4.0 5 spd. Its an early model built 9 or 10 -88 and its got the BA10-5
  5. good to hear you got it fixxed. That was an odd deal to have all three bad!
  6. Sometimes if you have used chrome moly rings, it may take a while for the rings to break in. Chrome moly is considered the better ring, but they are real fussy about cylinder wall finish.
  7. I did about the same thing as mnkyboy, springover rear, RC 6.5" coils in front. I used stock short arms with shop built control arm drops. Steering is shop built chevy 3/4 ton.
  8. Maybe the cap is wet, from all the snow you may have gotten under the hood. Or possiblehigh resistance plug wire. Usually plug wires act up under a lugging load, and work OK at high rpm with low load. If it sounds ok at idle, put it in gear and hold the brakes and powerbrake it.Thats when a plug wire miss usually shows up. Just don't power brake too long, as the extra heat isnt too good for the torque convertor.
  9. yes, it does. Its weird!
  10. I'm thinking you don't have a good ground at the left park light, so it feeds back through the turn signal filament and puts the indicator on. you can verify that by using a test light clipped to battery negative, and touch the pointed tip to the base of the left turn bulb. If it lights with the park lights on, you don't have a good ground.
  11. Hey, I like the hood too! How did the chevy engine fit, did you use manifolds or headers? and what about the radiator? Looks awesum
  12. My wiper motor was shot on my 89 comanche, so I got one from a 92 cherokee. everything was the same except for the plug. I just made an adapter harness from the plug from the old motor and the plug from the 92 xj body harness. I'm not sure how new you can go on changeability.
  13. I bet if your crank seal is leaking, you have oil on the belt. Just run it till you get the new seal in it, then make sure you clean all the pulleys off with brake cleaner and compressed air before you put the new belt on.Buy a good belt, I use goodyear, but thats up to you.
  14. what kind of synchros would a pukey have?
  15. Maybe the fuel pressure regulator is leaking. pull the vacuum hose off it an see if theres fuel in it.
  16. Sure pete, and if you forget, and drive away , it will follow you to the next time you need to use it! I just used the 11" ford brakes that came with the rearend. The factory E brake cables fit right into the backing plates. Someday I would like to do the disc deal, but this works good for now.
  17. Hi Pete, what do you do for an e brake then?
  18. Glad to see that you have Betty back! I have an 89 lwb pioneer with a 4.0 and BA5. My engine has a lower end knock and 3rd gear scratches in the tranny. So, I bought a 92 Dakota with a 5.2 auto and 231hd case, I probably should have bought a GC instead of a Dakota, cause I'm not sure how its gonna get bolted in yet. This should be fun!
  19. You can get vacuum hose at the parts store that fits the 1/8" plastic lineI think its 7/64. I've done a loy of them over the years. You only need about an inch of the hose to splice it, or use as much as you need to get where you have to go.
