I am looking for a complete set of air hoses for an 88 factory 4.0 in any condition to use as patterns to make a new custom set. Anyone have a set on a parting out truck they’re willing to part with? I’d return them also if someone would want them back..Thanks.

I'm trying to replace the headlight switch in my 88 and finally got it removed but in the process broke the plastic cone the switch attaches to in the dash. I believe it can be repaired but it would have to be removed to do it. Has anyone removed this portion of the dash that can advise how to do it? It appears its secured by a couple of rivets below the dash and a couple of screws in the dash. Is that correct? Thanks for the help!

Thanks HOrnbrod !

I need to replace the headlight switch on my 88 and the retainer nut is stripped and I'm going to have to cut it out with my Dremel. Does anyone have a good one they can part with ? The one I have is brass I believe and has been boogered up so there is no way to turn it/unscrew it. All help appreciated. Thanks

I'm using Dot 5 in brakes and clutch. No problems so far after a few months. I bought the wilwood fluid (expensive!) from Jegs as no one around here stocked it that I could find.
-
Me either..probably wouldn't be pretty............
-
I didn't. I had to buy a used one from a tranny rebuild shop.

I did this mod and definitely think it's worth it. The bell housing was very hard to find in this area and took me months. I finally spotted an ad for a late model AX15 tranny for sale and called the guy and offered to just buy the bell housing..He thought they were one piece but when he looked at it, he said yes so I got it. And he still was able to sell the tranny to someone else. And when I installed it, I used Dot 5 silicone fluid for it.

Your Opinion and view is welcome but isn't shared evidently by Chrysler/Jeep who now recommend synthetic 10w30 for the ax15 since the gl3 lubes are no longer produced. As I mentioned in my post, there has been lots of discussion about this on other jeep forums and not everyone agrees.

There is a lot of discussion about this in other forums. I decided to go with synthetic 10w30 in mine. All is well and it shifts fine.

The 87-90 parts book shows the part number as 56000636..I'm not sure if its available but there are some used ones on ebay from time to time for about $15.00 +/-. the JY might be a good spot to find one also...???? Edit:..Team Cherokee is selling one for $41.95....part number 56009324 which they say replaced 56000636.

UPDATE: Today I received an FFD Radiator and indeed it has the bung (with the correct Threads!) to install a Fan Temp switch. Pictures below of the Radiator with the bung plug out and another of 2 Fan Temp switches..an OEM One and an aftermarket one (TS258 from Rock Auto.) With this radiator the aftermarket fan switch fits perfectly however the OEM one is too deep and won't snug up tight due to the radiator internals. I'm installing it tomorrow..Thanks Don for the lead on this and the solution to a problem finding a radiator with a bung to accommodate the fan switch and with a fill neck!!!!.
-
Today I received a response from the guys at FFD. They indicate they haven't changed their radiator design in over 5 years and if purchased since then, it would be like the one in the picture Don posted. They didn't confirm that it had a "bung" ...only that they hadn't changed it....????? Don: How long ago did you purchase yours from FFD?

Just about everything from the doors forward interchanges one way or another all the way up to 2001. Up to 96, most everything interchanges. If you do some searches and some prowling around on the forum you'll find lots of info related to this topic.
-
Thanks Don. I just sent FFD a message and asked if they still have one like you bought as it would be my preferred one. I had previously inquired of one of the silla vendors about the AA single row but never got an answer. EDIT: Just received an automated response: they have evacuated their building due to Hurricane Sandy..They will reply when they return..Good Luck to them and everyone in the way of the storm.

Does anyone know which brand/brands of aftermarket radiators have both the fill neck and the knockout for the temp switch? My 88 4.0 needs a new radiator and the ones I've seen so far don't have both, either one or the other. ???????.
-
IIRC, the upper one in the pic looks like it is the gas tank vent line going to the charcoal canister. The other one looks like it was a flex fuel line with the end cut off of it.

I have an Olympic edition and as stated above it seems to be primarily a decal pacage for all the 88 Jeep Models to commerate the 88 Olympics. There is special striping down the sides. on the tailgate and the Olympic emblem on the front fender. The 88 parts book has details of the stickers/decals for all the models including the mj. I have been working with Spencer at jeepsticker.com to recreate the decals and so far he has the tailgate ones done as well as the Olympic emblem one. The side stickers are in "process" and the first look at them is good for the pattern but not so for the color which is a weird "gold". Not sure about gas tank size as the one on my mj was replaced with a swb tank very soon after I got it.

OK here's a photo of the 2 switches. BA/10 on the left and AX15 on the right. So in order to get the backup lights to work with the AX15 tranny, all I need to do is splice in the 2 wries going to the original BA10 switch to the 2 wires on new Ax15 switch. Correct?
-
I'm swapping in an AX15 to replace a BA10 and notice the backup light wiring for the AX15 is different from the BA10 (2 wire vs 4 wire). Can anyone advise the "fix" for this so the backup lights will work with the AX15 tranny? Or point me to a thread that shows how to deal with this? I've done a forum search but couldn't locate an answer. Thanks

I just bought a new one for my 88 4.0 from mopar and it's marked 1.1 ohms. part number 33000682.

internal slave cylinder question
RDAN1 replied to itsjust me's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't know which one you need but I show the part numbers to be 83503383 for 87-89 w BA10's and 5252137 for 89-90s with AX15's. Good Luck. -
Don't try to pry the lenses out..as stated above the whole fixture will come out of the pillar if you gently pry it out..held by 2 plastic clips built into one end of the fixture. Then you can remove the bulb from the side..While it's out, clean up everything, especially all the contacts. Good Luck.

New Fuel Pump Assembly????
RDAN1 replied to krustyballer16's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 89 and 91 MJ 4.0s use the same fuel pump if this is what you are asking. 88 model years also?..and is the in tank assembly from the 91 mj usable in the 88 except for the fuel gauge sending unit? Thanks for the help.
