  1. I desperately need to find a way to add intermittent wipers. I can find another MJ or XJ with the proper steering column stalk. What else is involved in getting it to run timed instead of constantly.
  2. I ran over 1,000lbs today a couple times and I wasn't sagging much if any at all. I do not have the metric ton either. If I were you I would look into distributing the weight better or proper springs for the job.
  3. The symptoms you mention make me think you got a dud idle air controller or you have a small vacuum leak. Could you put your vehicle specifics in your profile so we can better help you?
  4. The last two look awfully similar to what attaches to the air conditioning compressor. Is your air conditioning working?
  5. That is scary. I have found a way to avoid buying chinese and not pay extra either (just look harder)...this clutch is likely chinese and something that will be an on/off switch instead of a clutch (if not at first then soon enough). I would get a LUK. You can reuse a clutch with an engine/transmission swap so even if you go from BA-10 to an AX-15 you could just use the AMERICAN MADE Luk clutch. Napa has them for under 200 but I am sure you could find them cheaper.
  6. Wellllll you guys sorta have me sold on the 97+ mirrors! Here I was thinking I would keep it all AMC looking. I guess Chrysler had a good idea or two :D Plus the 97+ mirrors are bigger and I could use that when the bed is loaded up high. Hopefully I find some fully manual, exterior-adjust mirrors at the junkyard tomorrow.
  7. Looks like rear main seal/pan gasket to me. You may want to look at your oil filter adapter also. Is there a buildup of oil on your oil filter? For pan gasket there is a really good one piece blue Felpro if you have the 4.0. Get a new drain plug as well and you should be set for only a little bit of coin.
  8. I was able to only check the resistor and the fuse today. The "blower" fuse is a 30 and is good. The resistor is in there loose with only 1 screw. Now here is the confusing part...the HVAC unit in the dash doesn't light up with the radio and dash lights. Is there a specific fuse just for the HVAC unit? I had a fuse blown out that said something like "passenger" something or other and replaced that but I have no idea what that did. Tomorrow I'll be able to check power to the blower motor. Its too cold to not have the blower work and only be teased by the little bit of warmth coming out of the bottom vents on "heat."
  9. Thanks all! I got it running by finding the fuse for the "parking lights" actually does the dash too. Its got a fuse in it now and works but I suspect I'll have to cut out the trailer wires but its too cold out to do that now.
  10. Transmission only requires pulling drain plug then the pan. Replace the filter you see in there and refill according to your AW4 specifications. If you have a chiltons/haynes I believe they do a good job of it. If not I'm sure you can find the instructions on the net or pickup the book at your local auto parts store.
  11. Ok so I literally just went through this and had to have a buddy use his lathe to turn down a bushing for me. If the transmissions pilot shaft area (tip of the shaft) measures around .590-.560 then you have a 91 or OLDER AX-15. Now the question is: what year engine are you running? 92+ like I did and your crank should have a small pilot hole of 1.000. 91 and OLDER 4.0 should be 1.054. Doesn't seem like much of a difference but it is. If you have a .75 pilot on your transmission you have a 92+ AX-15. Depending on what direction you are going with the swap either the pilot is commercially available or you will need a custom job like I had made. I will save you the trouble of even trying the advance adapters or novak pilot bushings unless you specifically take the measurements they give you and they match what I have given you/you have measured. If you have an internal slave that doesn't mean much because you could have a 91 or 92 and that is on the cusp of the different transmission pilot and engine crank pilot hole measurements. At the end of the day its not a difficult swap but depending on your application you may need a custom bushing made.
  12. Ok good to know. This fuse is under the hood or under the drivers side? Any idea what its labeled?
  13. Ok so just hold a volt meter to the wires going into the blower motor? Is the fuse in the panel under the driver or under the hood? Any idea what the fuse is labeled as?
  14. I searched and found out that the resistor pack can cause the blower motor to run only on high. Mine just doesn't turn on. Sound like a resistor or motor or something else? I can get a new resistor from rockauto but I am wondering if I need anything else?
  15. How come I have no dash lights and no rear lights with the headlights on but I still have brake lights when I step on the pedal? I looked at the fuse box and there is zero evidence of brake fluid dripping down from the clutch rod area. Am I missing which fuse I was supposed to look at? Anything else I should look at?
  16. Good thinking. Even if the unit is not identical I too would wager that they used off-the-shelf internals.
  17. Please do! A couple close up's of the gearing would be good too. Ahh the luxury of 2010 wrenching, when you can look at pictures, order online, and THEN go out in the freezing cold to install.
  18. I will take you up on that offer. If its the same part as a MJ part then we will add a really valuable resource to the Comanche world and in turn make it so that we sleep better at night.
  19. YJ units are still available from the dealer, as there was a recall on them, and some of them still pop up here and there, We've done at least two of them on YJ's this year at my dealer. They are VERY similar, and I would think that if you had enough injenuity you could bolt it up one way or another and make it work. Ive kept one of the recalled brake assy's just for this purpose, but havent looked at them side by side to see really how similar they are. Good luck, and let us know what you do. Thanks for the heads up. Any way you could post a picture of the YJ one next to MJ or do you not have an unmounted MJ unit?
  20. :D Well first I should ask if you've checked to see if the damage is covered under warranty. :D Well I'll say this...it looks like you left the headpipe on the vehicle. I just did an engine swap, which I literally buttoned up this morning. From the headpipe you have a gasket; the one I got at advance was a ring of lead. Then you'll probably want to put new bolts through the flange (I used 3/8" coarse 2.5" grade 8 bolts/nuts/washers from Home Depot). From there back you can start getting parts at RockAuto.com and should be able to get some good stuff. Another trick I've found for low priced parts is to buy on advanceauto.com and then use any of the coupon codes (search google and you'll see how you can get a minimum of 20% off). I hope any of this helps!
  21. Figures! I noticed YJ's have an awfully similar looking assembly (in pictures). I would find it hard to believe that AMC designed two separate units for the same purpose but anything is possible (especially with AMC).
  22. My parking brake pedal will just return back up when you press it. I need a new assembly. Are new ones available? Should I be putting 91 cherokee into the search?
  23. Exhaust work is best done by a muffler shop if you're not experienced. You definitely need the muffler replaced. Beyond that will require a professional look at it that internet pictures cannot provide. Can you get it back on and drive to the muffler shop?
  24. These best is honestly the stock replacement. Keep you from sounding like a Toyota racer.
