TTT - Don's not selling his clock so I'm still looking.
-
Not knocking the 44, but the question was which is strongest... Good point. I wouldn't say "don't get an 8.8" but I would say "try and find a 44." Sometimes in the "strongest" argument we have to sit back and ask whether we need all that strength.

The 44 is the quintessential JEEP axle...I pondered the 8.8 but then quickly realized that a JEEP should have a DANA axle. 44 or shortened 60 are good rear options. Considering there is a bolt in 44 option I think thats an intelligent and inviting option.

Seems like "the pub" is the best place to post new pub tech

:huh???: Coors Banquet? :USAflag: :USAflag: :USAflag: -
This is simply amazing! Plus it dispenses nice cold budweiser!

Well I just sold a near perfect clock from an 87-88 but I may have another one like it.
-
Don I may be looking to get yours if you'll work with me on price :D Are we sure there are no 91+ clocks? There is a plug in the back of my dash for a clock (I'm guessing).

All wiring is present. Not sure about 2.5 so just avoid those until finding out.
-
I need a pair of 2" budget boost spacers, 2" lift shackles (with rubber bushings if possible), and I also need Dana 44 u-bolts (new) if you have extras.
-
I need a clock from XJ/MJ from 91-93. Let me know if you have one and how much!

You are right, I just looked it up but you beat me to it! The sending unit for coolant and oil pressure are simple to install and cheap enough so its a nice upgrade in most cases.

Lets talk MJ 44 brakes
91coMANche replied to 91coMANche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, I got the parts for my 8.25 from a ZJ D44A. The tubes were pretty close between the two axles, so not much grinding was needed. I thought I already did. :) Explorer backing plates, reman calipers from Kragen, Centric pads and rotors, Raybestos e-brake shoes, Rubicon retainer plates, braided brake hose, KJ e-brake cables. I accumulated all the parts over a period of time, so maybe it just feels inexpensive. Sorry sorry! My mind works in lists...reading the paragraph is tough to quantify but reading a list and I get it! So other than a little opening up on the caliper brackets did you have to do any other fabrication? I assume you got the explorer backing plates with the caliper brackets together. -
I just did the factory upgrade and don't regret it. The electronics are failproof because remember that they are simply measuring resistance/ground (take off the oil pressure sender wire and ground it and the gauge goes one way and then remove the wire from ground and it goes the other way). The gauge are indeed active and move. You will need to get a different oil pressure sending unit but I believe the temperature sender in your head should work. I will wait for someone else to chime in on whether that is correct (pretty sure the gauge and idiot light sender for water temperature is the same). Plus going factory will just look cleaner and honestly won't cost much if anything more.

I am not exactly positive I understand what you mean but if you mean the pattern on the bearing retainer then I guess my response would be that regardless if I can get an off the shelf part that will bolt the shafts in and hold the caliper brackets then I would prefer that over anything. -

I'd rather use the Jeep brakes because 1. they are Jeep, and 2. if I get the TJ Rubicon retainer plates then the rest is simply bolt on except for the enlarging of the caliper bracket from the Dana 35. Here is my next question: has anyone tried to use an Aluminum ZJ 44 axle for its brake parts? This axle will probably have bigger tubes and therefore the caliper bracket may just fit perfectly over the axle...? -
Support under the seat????
91coMANche replied to wranglercory's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here is a picture with both reinforcements clearly pictured (picture borrowed from another member from a post on this forum). There is the one that goes the length of the pan in the same direction as the frame rail and then the little one that comes over and ties the brace into the rocker. My question is whether either of these reinforcements are resold or if I will be making them from scratch (assuming they are too rusted after I wire wheel). -

I'm in the process of patching up some rust on an MJ and was wondering whether you guys are talking about the brace that goes from front to back or the little one that go on the side? I think that little one may need a little help on what I'm working on...would that be something where there is a replacement available? Are either of those braces replaceable? -

Thanks for the offer but a buddy has a complete rear I can take for free...I will however purchase the retainers! -

Well at least now I know that I own the crappiest Dana 35 of all Dana 35's. Not only does it howl and have a deep silver metallic gear oil but it also doesn't even have the correct brake backing plates to swap over to an improved axle. If anyone is selling Dana 44 brake parts or disc brackets let me know. -

Looks like my cheapest route will be to just keep the stock 44 brakes. -

Other than MJ and XJ 44's, do drums from any other axle work? If I go drums I still have to go junkyard for the parts so maybe I would just get some used drums and then just new shoes and such.
