That would certainly help explain my axles conglomeration of parts!! Thank you sir and duly noted.

Well in typical Jeep tradition, my unit bearings are the late 80's as the 90-99 one is not correct for my axle. They will both bolt on but the brake rotors do not fit over the 90-99 version. First one was a cheapy, wised up and spent the extra dough on the better one....... guess not so much better after all. Maybe it was a def unit? Taking it back in for warranty, we shall see. Thanks for the input folks! :wrench:

That 8.8 would be a steal if you can get it!! Lookin awesome so far, keep it up!

Truck is a 1986 Jeep Comanche with D30 front axle 3:55 open carrier, no clue as to what year it is from. Non CAD axle standard thin D30 shafts with the smaller u-joints. I have replaced 2 pass (yeah 2, but both pass side?) and 1 driver front wheel hub assemblies in the last year as well as now a set of u-joints. This is my daily driver, wheeled once last year in Ardbeg Northern Ontario. Is there a difference in the wheel bearing/hub assemblies over the D30 non-CAD time span? If so what is the year change and how would the axle be identified if there are any markings? Any thought, ideas or suggestions all welcome!!

I have an issue with my trany in the Comanche. It is leaking fluid after changing the filter and new gasket, have tried twice now to get it to seal up. What do you guys with auto trany's use to reseal the pan to the transmission? Just the rubber gasket, or gasket maker, or a combination of things? Any idea's would be great cleaning up the mess each time is getting old really fast

Measured the driveshaft tonight 53 3/8 same location as you were using

Dirteatr717..... that would work if we were a little closer than 8 hours! But yeah if you could check your measurement and I'll check my truck after work today and post back

Never thought about the differences in slip shafts! Thanks, will check it tomorrow after work. I think mine is like the one on the left in your picture, if I can find ine like the middle that would give me a little more travel....approx an inch

Axle is still SUA, I moved the 8.25 back to the next hole on the spring perches 1 1/2 inch from where the D35 was. So anyway I took it for a spin down a rough road 20 minute round trip and all was good. Still unsure about the driveshaft though, I would feel better with at least an inch of travel. Thoughts? Opinions?

Ended up having to replace the D35 in my truck, so replaced with a Cry-co 8.25 from a '97 Cherokee. Cut off the old perches & shock mounts and mocked it in, set the pinion angle and tacked in place. Removed axle finished welding everything up proper, a quick coat of paint and put it in the Manche..... This is where I have a problem (i think anyway) looks like I only have 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of slip from the shoulder of the slip yolk, to the tail cone of the t-case. Will this be enough or should I be shortening the driveshaft? Will be getting a better measurement after I get home, and take it for a quick spin to see if anything is binding. Any thoughts.... questions.... suggestions? All welcome Thanks Truck - 86 LWB 4.0 Auto 3" lift

Found one! On the advice of another local Comanche owner I called the Scrapyard he recommended with and they had several axles to choose from. Picked up a ChryCo 8.25 with 3.55 gears to match my front.

Have a brake flush done to replace the fluid, which has probably never been changed!! Another Canadian EH :Canadaflag: Great job so far!!!! Keep it up :wrench:

NICE JOB!! Thinkin' along a similar line either in the fall or next spring. With some other Custom touches of course

Looking for a rear axle, mine is in need of a replacement. :wall: Would like to get either a D44 or 8.25 but will make do with a D35 just to keep it on the road for now. Only want to replace the axle once and might as well upgrade since I have to replace it now! :wrench: Would even take a set of paired axle with matched gearing. What do you have and how much $$

:agree: Simple, clean and utilitarian......I like them  -
That sucks  main thing is you're okay. As for the truck like you said rebuild it, door fender and axle and it's pretty much good to go :wrench: Keep the positive attitude and anything can be done.

Not that hard to make it a 4WD :wrench: Ya know ya wana :brows:
