  1. Update: Changed the O2 sensor with an NTK23553 from local store. The snout of the new sensor is shorter than the old one but it seems to be working fine now. At least it's oscillating up and down like normal and the truck goes into closed loop and the REM reports Rich/Lean in response to the voltage oscillations.   2. yeah, that's nuts. I'd wonder too if it's attached correctly at the back of the speedometer. A cable that is binding internally causes jumping of the needle. The needle slows down (drops below actual speed) as the cable begins dragging and then jumps higher as the cable unloads in the housing and then the process repeats itself. That yours pegs out and stays there makes me wonder if it's not attached correctly or the inner cable is slightly too long and jamming up the works.
  3. Some of the locomotives use sand to provide extra traction on the rails for drive wheels. From what I remember it's only used on hills though and your trip looked pretty flat. Interesting.
  4. Dollywood in Tennessee has a steam train you can ride through the smokies as well. It's a short ride, but it's cool. Soot and ash falling from the sky is cool to me. Dollywood Express
  5. It's an older ceramic bodied sensor that's been in place for 20 years or so.
  6. Have good battery + voltage on D2_9. Ohms between A and B on the sensor side of that connector are 3.5k Ohms So if it should read 6-ish, I'm way off.
  7. This is using my newly installed REM and reading through the XJBlueTalk app. O2 sensor voltage only fluctuates between 3.4-4.0v but never fluctuates outside that range. This would seem to tell me the o2 sensor is communicating with the ECU, but that the sensor is at the very least, lazy if not bad. vehicle runs okay, with a slight stumble off idle sometimes but never goes into closed loop and registers lean all the time.   14. With the radiator out, it's so easy to do the waterpump and thermostat too. I would.
  15. Mine separated in my 99 XJ a few years back. I only knew it because when it started the outer shell moved forward toward the radiator and it threw the belt. I didn't really hear it, but the AC stopped, the alternator stopped, power steering stopped. I was fortunate to be about 2 miles from my house so I just drove it home.
  16. are you trying to get the bearing off the axle shaft or off the carrier? Either way, I've had good luck cutting through the inner race with a die grinder. You won't get all the way through because of the shoulder, but when you get most of the way through, you can take a good hard chisel and hit it in the cut you've made. That almost always causes the inner race to split apart or to loosen.
  17. 87 Longbed, 4.0 - manual. Been putting off tearing into it to fix loose tilt column but this week my hand was forced due to an ignition lock cylinder that just quit working. So since I'm taking it apart to replace lock cylinder, might as well tackle the loose tilt mechanism. I expected to find the four e-torx bolts loose and that was it but no luck. While they were slightly loose, I think most of my play in the column is coming from the ball bearing close to the pivot point of the steering shaft. There are two caged ball bearings in the top part of the column. One at the upper part of the steering shaft just below were the lock ring resides and then another a couple inches down the shaft. The lower one is the one that's fallen apart in my case. Haven't gotten the inner race off yet, but would anyone know a part number for this bearing?   20. Is it leaking? Knock it out and see what's behind it before condemning it. I replaced all these plugs in mine last year. Easy peasy except you have to remove the head to get to one back there.
  21. If there was a previous thread related to this, I missed it. This is exactly how my cherokee acted when the crank position sensor was failing. Random dying but would always start right back up. then one day It didn't start right back up. CPS was failing. Replaced and all is well.

  23. Glad to hear you're doing well and things are looking up. I know I've benefited from your knowledge sharing about multiple things. I love the CETME rifles. Saw them in use in Spain in the early 90s and a few years later with the Japanese Ground self defense force. I regret not buying one back then when they were all over Shotgun News for cheap. Yours sure seems to be a nice example.
