  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-JEE ... 33612cf4f2 Has some issues but might be a great find for a garage mechanic. Great interior!!
  2. Does she have a sister? ;) My wife and I had it out regarding my recent " interest " in investing $$ into the MJ. All thanks to this Comanche Club group of guys. It sat for 95% of the time for the last 8 years until I got the bug and started improving it with new tires, shell, bedliner paint job, and scored a front bumper and bucket seats from a member. ($20) When I told her I was meeting another member to pick up a rear bumper w/brackets and the bucket seat brackets to go with my new seats, she told me I better not put one more dime into that " old piece of crap ". I said I will NOT stop fixing it up and in fact am going to sell my MBz CLK 430 since it now sits in the garage 95% of the time. I didn't even mention my "comanche fund" I'm saving to buy a really nice 4.0 in two years. :brows:
  3. Welcome to the Club!! I'll leave the answers to your questions to the guys who know alot more than I. If you've been following the site you know you'll get plenty of help. Good luck with the truck and try to add some pics and your location on your next post.
  4. Not sure about the thin back part but I've read on hear some guys have used Dakota seats and I think someone used seats from an Isuzu Trooper. Happy hunting!
  5. I have the 4cyl 4spd 89 Sportruck. It is reliable and seemingly easy to work on. Sportruck means you get no fluff or fringes, pretty much a basic, bare bones truck. Do I sometimes wish I had the power of a 4.0 L ? Yes! You won't win any drag races with the 2.5. Do I love my Comanche ? Yes!!, and you will find the guys on this site to be a huge source of knowledge and information as you tweak you MJ and become hooked like the rest of us. Good Luck!
  6. Hey guys, I thought this truck was a great package but it is way too far from me. Price is a little high but maybe justified after reading the entire listing.http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/1922877582.html
  7. I just wanted to say WELCOME to the Club. I'm not one of the experts so I can't answer your questions but check again later for the know-how guys responses. We love pictures so break out the camera.
  8. Thanks for the leg work. I will be sure to contact them as soon as I can. The price is probably nominal so that's not an issue.
  9. Who is Candy and why is she in custody? :???:
  10. I've got some calls in to a couple auto electric suppliers and if nothing turns up I will visit the local yards to see what I can find. I'm dumbfounded that this seems to be such a rare occurance. These breakers must be very long-lived. Thanks for the input.
  11. I suppose I had that coming! I know where to find the breaker. I need to know where to purchase a replacement and if the exact one doesn't exist anymore, is there an appropriate replacement? :help: I've personally checked three auto supply stores and a half dozen online suppliers but have yet to find a replacement for this part. If anyone has connections in these types of gizmos, please give me some guidance.
  12. Hey Guys, I'm still trying to figure out my wiper problem as previously posted. I had already checked the fuse box but didn't see anything labeled for the front wiper and it didn't dawn on me until today to look up a listed diagram on the Web. The possible culprit might be the 5.5 amp circuit breaker in the fuse box which is designated to the wipers. My fuse tester is too narrow for the breaker. Is there another way to test it to see if it is bad. And the PO apparently put in a 4.8 amp but since I've had the truck for 8 yrs, it worked until now. If it is bad, does anyone know where to find these breakers? The closest thing to it that I can find is a 10 amp plastic fuse. I wouldn't think that would be able to perform the same as the breaker. I know JYs are the source for many hard to find parts but my work schedule prevents me from getting to one during business hours. Besides, for a few bucks, I would rather pay for a new one if they still exist. I summon thee my Comanche Brothers! Hear my plea!
  13. When I first got my MJ I needed mirrors and didn't like the Auto store selection so I bought Wrangler mirrors from the dealership. You will have to drill new holes and remove the interior door panel to attach washers and nuts to the bolts. Even with that, they still vibrate a little at highway speeds. If I were to do it over, I would have found the proper replacement mirrors from an XJ and kept the orignal look of the Comanche.
  14. This is a "new" reconditioned motor from Autozone and I just used up all of my curse words in three languages putting the assembly back in for the 3rd time, so I hope it isn't the motor bearings. As far as testing the motor, I will need to buy a charger and even then won't know what I'm doing or what I'm looking for :???: . I'll keep trying and worst case scenario is I live in San Diego and we're lucky if we get rain 30 days out of a whole year. Thanks for the input and wish me luck.
  15. I did bolt everything down and I don't know what the wiper module looks like but I will check for "anything" loose under the dash. I don't have intermittents but wish I did. Could the column wiper control be the culprit? There is some play in it but as stated earlier, I did get some action from the wipers before they stopped :dunno: . OK, I just took the assembly out again and with great effort was able to work the arms manually. I can't believe there should be so much resistance in the movement. I double checked the configuration of the whole thing and all is proper. It seems to me the bushings are VERY snug and the cause of the friction. Was I supposed to lube the bushings before pressing them onto the ball? If I do need to remove the (brand new) bushings to lube, I shall use my tears of frustration :grrrr: .
  16. A few days ago there was morning dew on my windshield so I activated the wipers to clear it. They worked for about 2 seconds, then stopped dead in their tracks. Other than the typical " not quite all the way down " position in OFF, I'd never had a problem. Recalling a DIY thread regarding the motor and bushings, I bought a wiper motor and bushing pack from Autozone and comenced to going through the project. BTW, connect the motor wiring harness BEFORE fastening any mount screws :wall: . When everything was hooked up (minus the wiper arms) I tested the system and got about 2 or 3 seconds of movement and then nothing. Soooo.. I wonder if (A) it wasn't the motor or (B) could I have tightened the nut to the motors center bolt too much. I do recall thinking the assembly seemed very stiff but figured loosening the nut would cause trouble down the road. I know some of you have performed this operation on your own patients and any input will be appreciated. :help:
  17. I work in the Courts in San Diego and have sat through several " Owner v. Service Shop " small claims cases. If you go that route, have the service records to show the work/paper trail regarding the oil pan and contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) in your area before filing the lawsuit. BAR will do a thorough investigation of your complaint and will testify in court as a witness at no cost to you. If BAR is on your side, you will have a MUCH greater chance of success. Good Luck!!
  18. Not only has this site helped with tech issues but fills a sense of belonging with like minded individuals  . And when my wife (frequently) gets angry at my spending time and money on "that thing" I explain it is my duty and responsibility, along with my Comanche Brethren, to save and restore as many Comanches as we can. We are like the crew on Whale Wars trying to slow down the destruction of an endangered specie. Long Live the MJ.
  19. Thanks Guys! I'm glad I can use crimp connectors and don't have to solder anything. I've never done that and didn't want to lose my soldering virginity in the cab of an old, beat up Comanche :brows: Thanks again. I'll buy what I need and should soon have interior lights.
  20. OK, thank you. Now how do I CONNECT the wires to the spades? ( I really don't know! )
  21. Hey guys! I ordered the pillar lights I read about on a previous post. They are rocker switch type from the limo supply company. I'm sure they will look great once installed, BUT, I know nothing of electronics or wiring and need some advice how to wire them into the existing pillar wires. Thanks for any input.
  22. I just went through the same thing last week. Double check the parking lamp fuse. I went through 2 in 10 minutes and on the third one I stuck my head down to watch it as I turned the ignition and sure enough, it blew out. Figuring the problem to be a ground, I stared at the battery and worked backwards. I was VERY lucky and found the disconnect about 12" from the battery. Connected wires. Problem solved. Good luck!!
  23. I saw this truck for sale and thought it would come in handy for anyone needing to haul a football team. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1884474062.html
  24. Got it!! The ground wire from the battery had been yanked off the connector during the water pump replacement. I reconnected it and replaced the 3rd blown parking lamp fuse and voila. I will still replace all the bulb connectors due to them looking quite crappy. Thanks for the input.
  25. Yeah, I'm gonna double check all connectors/sockets and probably just replace them all since they are fairly cheap. It baffles me how the other lamp functions work off the same bulbs but the parking light mode is kaput. I'll keep checking and hopefully can avoid a visit to an auto electric shop.
