  1. Found the source of a lack of power! Turns out all of the manifold bolts were loose.
  2. Have been installing a pile of new parts. Spark plugs, oil sending unit, "746" 4 hole injectors, new window crank handles, vacuum manifolds, clock backlight bulb. There is much more to come. Continue down cruiser's list. I cleaned the IAC and throttle body. Adjusted the throttle plate position. Need to change out the ancient o2 sensor. Need to start cleaning grounds. Currently considering doing the delete of the vacuum actuated front axle. It left me very stuck in a muddy field and I didn't realize the front wheels weren't helping until it was too late.
  3. This one didn't see a lot of miles in it's time as a parts runner. The first owner put 237k miles on it in the first 16 years of it's life. The Jeep dealer put another 13k on over the following 15 years. However I have their maintenance records and they did quite a bit to it. Most notably a new clutch last year.

Continue down cruiser's list. I cleaned the IAC and throttle body. Need to change out the ancient o2 sensor. Need to start cleaning grounds. Currently the truck is idling between 1800-2000 rpm. Going to check egr and throttle plate stop.
  5. Great! I sent you a PM, please let me know how much!
  6. Awesome, what would you say the condition of the teeth are? I'm also interested in the release handle.
  7. I'm looking for a parking brake pedal assembly. The one in my truck has been hacked on many times and is basically beyond repair due to the welding that's been done to it. Please let me know if you have one, I'd be more than happy to pay for it and have it shipped / pick it up if your nearish Erie, PA.
  8. This is funny to me. I had an 88 SporTruck a few years ago and sold it. Clean southern California truck that ran well. I regretted selling it and wanted another SporTruck quite badly. I really like the 90s squiggle graphics on a white one with a black front end. In any case, I found this awesome Eliminator in black and am very happy with how it looks and how loaded it is. I just found out today the LSD works very well. This particular Jeep was owned for about 15 years by a Jeep dealer as their parts runner. It got a lot of important maintenance in that time. Though it's still a little beat, I'm going to get it sorted. Used it to do work on the farm today.
  9. Been shopping for one for a while and finally found the one I was looking for. It's a 1990 Comanche Eliminator that had spent it's whole life in Reading, PA. The Good: It's an Eliminator with lots of options. 4.0L, AX15, 4X4, with an LSD. Air conditioning, clock, vent windows, sliding rear window, and Eliminator bucket seats. Functioning vacuum disconnect front axle. The truck was repainted, amateur job so lots of orange peel. Brand new clutch, water pump, and rear bumper. Comes with original 10 hole wheels and the 10 hole spare and a set of newer Cherokee wheels. Amazingly solid for the miles and being from PA The Bad: Has 251k miles. Needs some rust repair in the driver's foot well. Down on power and in need of investigation. Has a vacuum leak that is very audible. Interior disgusting and will need complete refinishing. Windshield needs to be replaced. Door and window seals are crap. Doesn't have cruise control. Brand new tires that weren't balanced. Really looking forward to making it perfect.
  10. If the engine is pulling more timing than it should be, that can easily wreak fuel economy and power. Are there any ignition timing checks that can be performed? My memory recalls that the Renix ECU is always striving for max timing just short of knock.
  11. We were big fans of the Coopers on the old ZJ. I've also heard great things of the General Grabbers, a great tire for the price.
  12. I too am a huge fan of Royal Purple Syncromax. Gets my vote after completely transforming the transmission in a 99 BMW M3. From hard to find gears and notchy to very smooth. One I get my Comanche, it will be my choice.
  13. I just appreciate that I'm not the only one still listening to cassets in their cars.
  14. I recently ran into a similar sounding issue on a similar vintage map controlled Toyota engine. Are you sure you have the TPS sensor adjusted correctly? Said another way, clocked correctly relative to the throttle? Once I went through the alignment procedure on aforementioned Toyota, the super rich running condition went away and it ran perfectly. You may consider checking this or adjusting it just slightly towards the lean side just to see if that fixes it.
  15. Google the vin number, it brings up this link showing it was sold on a salvage vehicle website, though with a clean title. I am tempted, as it would be an amazing starting point regardless of whether it was salvaged. I am worried at what rust is hiding under the fresh paint. https://autoauctionspot.com/jeep/comanche/1988-1JTML6315JT157862.html?sale-date=2021-01-26
  16. Thanks guys! It's a great project. We've also been working on another single cylinder Briggs and Stratton with a rotary valve head that features variable valve duration control.
  17. My twin brother and I for the past few years have been working on a rotary valve cylinder head for a 99 BMW 328is. The cylinder head completely replaces the stock 24 valve cylinder head with a custom head that utilizes 6 axial flow rotary valves to control intake and exhaust. The car in question is a very beat up e36 generation 3 series coupe with a 2.8L inline 6. The engine runs on the stock ECU with all of the original emissions equipment in place. About 100 miles have been put on the car with the modified head. We have many videos on our YouTube channel of it. The most recent video shows it running quite well. Early on it ingested huge amounts of oil due to a poorly contrived PCV setup. If you're super interested in it, we have a long show and tell video.
  18. Wow, that's quite a project, definitely in need of some love. A friend of mine brought a similar 280zx to autocross. It was completely original and hadn't really been driven in many years. It had more power than I was expecting, clearly designed to be a cruiser.
  19. I've gone the Cibie H4 route before on a 7" round on another classic car I have. I run amazon LED H4 bulbs and absolutely love the result. Please remember to correctly align your lights once you install what ever you choose. As a person that daily drives mostly low sports cars, I can tell you that many people with modified headlights, don't have them adjusted correctly.
  20. This past summer, I got $330 for a long bed single cab ford F150 that we had pulled the transmission and transfer case out of. This is up in Pennsylvania.
  21. I've luckily always had good encounters with people I've purchased cars with online, which is good as I've usually fly to the destination and drive home. A lot of your stories sound like the way companies would interview and never get back saying they weren't interested when I was applying for internships. The concept of ghosting is quite frustrating.
  22. It's been too long since I did mine to remember the details so I can't answer your pin question. But I absolutely agree with the reduction of drive train flutter. It was a masive improvement in reduced vibration while moving off in first gear or just getting on and off throttle.
  23. Personally I think the 33s look a little to large on your Comanche. I'd swap down to the 31s, you won't regret it from the performance gains.
  24. Congratulations! Glad you got it fixed.
  25. Is the harmonic balancer slipping on its internal rubber ring?
