  1. Check your track bar. On the body side mount the hole can become wobbled out and cause it. If you haven't recently changed the suspension or tires this is a good place to at least check. Heck it is a good thing for any of us to check. (The booster upgrade mentioned above is a great one)
  2. Yep. Other mods can make all the difference.
  3. I just went the "eliminate the rake" route do to my take on his leveling comment.
  4. Pulled from another thread? It is a fact. A turbo STUFFS air into a cylander. A metal screen does not :) It is sad that you cannot tolerate someone not agreeing with you. I hope you get help with that.
  5. Most cold air intakes, TB spacers, and gee gaws turn out to be snake oil. Not saying this one is but without verified before and after testing any actual improvement felt may just be self fulfilling prophecy. Who knows? But increasing potential airflow is worthless unless there is a proven defeciency. Unless thw engine requires it increasing the potential does nothing. I am assuming some only wheel in dry conditions or their truck is kept on the pavement. That is fine but not all use their truck that way. You do not need to be in water as high as the inlet to get water in the box. When entering water it gets pushed higher than the water depth in many cases. Same when driving in water. Every seen a snow plow? Notice how the snow against the plow is higher than what it is plowing? Going beyond actual rivers,ponds,etc... consider the far more common water-filled mud hole. You go in 18" of standing water and sink through 12" of mud. Any forward motion causes the wave effect mentioned above. Now what do you have? I have personally seen 3 4.0 XJ's hydro locked over the years. You can find plenty of incidents online as well. Your actual mileage may vary but if you wheel and if you do it in any of the above conditions I suggest that you should consider that. I never said to not do this mod but an informed decision is a better decision. As to K&N filters for off-roaders that is another topic with varying opinions that one can research for themselves.
  6. 3" front/2" back may or may not level the truck as the rear sits higher from the factory. Adding more to the rear may make it worse and return the factory rake. XJ shackles remove an inch while Chevy drop shackles add 2.
  7. Another vote for using caution if you do any play in water. The factory air box let's enough water in that hydrolocking an engine is a real concern without adding more ways for water to get in.
  8. And maybe the tail lights will survive again..... ;)
  9. I would guess it has either had a wiring harness fried or has been sunk in water at some point. In 1983 I bought a '78 Power Wagon that had sat stuck in a pond for 2 days. I paid almost nothing for it. However if you would turn the engine off with the blinker on the engine would start when the blinker came one, run for a second, and shut off when the light when off. I never did get all of the electric gremlins out of it.
  10. People complain that I watermark every image I post.(I know they want to post it elsewhere.) Honestly, people who cover up their license plate usually do so thinking it will prevent others from looking up their home address. The unique forum/social media name people use is enough for me to find a home address for most people. It will help you find where the IP address is supposed to come from...but that may not be the actual location... ;)
  11. Kid doing donuts in Dad's Comanche in a wet field. Hit some ruts sideways. Apparently they cut the top off and still use it.
  12. I added the LeBaron hoods vents. It would only creep up when I was thrashing it at a low pace in places with no wind, open air, etc... but it never actually over heated. As my truck does not have A/C it only had the mechanical fan. I have added the aux. electric fan but I have not been out in enough heat to use it since I installed it.
  13. :rotfl2:
  14. Check the pins/springs in the locker
  15. the tranny/t-case combo should bolt up. You have to change to a 4wd tranny when you go to 4wd.
  16. And how a Michigan school's students would react to such a win remains unknown and shall for quite some time yet... he he he

    X.J. liftgate

Yeah '96 was the last year of the original body
  18. There is a chart pinned in one category or another
  19. A broken locker will do that,too.
  20. I did not expect them to beat the Ducks. A guy that I graduated H.S.with is the father of starting OSU lineman Taylor Decker. He goes on a on about what a special group of young men these are. They were 100% one unit: no bad attitudes, showboats, or asses. I am happy to see them pull it off.
  21. THE Ohio State University.
  22. And you would be wrong. The AMC Model 20 is a VERY strong axle and differential -- equal to or possibly stronger than the Dana 44. The weakness in CJs was that the outer hubs were not forged as an integral part of the axle shafts, the shafts had a tapered spline and the hubs were then bolted on. Under sufficient torque, the splines would strip and you'd be left with a free-wheeling hub.The Model 20 used in the 84-86 XJ and the 86 MJ used one-piece shafts with the hubs being an integral part of the axle. It's VERY difficult to break one of those. The biggest disadvantage is that it's physically large, which affects ground clearance. Second, there's not nearly as much aftermarket support for the AMC 20 as there is for the D44.I think he meant that the the helmet was stronger than the stamped *cover* not the whole assembly. I am a fan of the AMC axle. Internally the better FSJ/MJ/XJ unit was known as the model 23 to differentiate the two. Although a dandy axle they are also a little prone to both twisting and bending the tubes especially the CJ version. Although these mods help most any axle these axles may benefit from trussing or at least welding the tubes to the center section than some others. The diff internals are very strong. AMC was foolish to design a new axle with that very outdated two-piece design.
  23. Who said Cummins was being discontinued in the bigger trucks? The vM is going into 1/2 ton trucks and Grand Cherokees. See what Gale Banks thinks of them. I didn't say it was being discontinued. I said they're not getting the NEW Cummins and they're losing exclusive use of it since Nissan is getting the new one in the Titans. I can slap a nice header on a piece of $#!&, it's still going to be a piece of $#!&. You shoulda heard all the negativism about the XJ from the Jeep purists when it came out..... Amen. Those old enough to remember that time know that Jeep people considered the XJ as the end of Jeep. Heck jeep had print ads comparing it to a Volvo 240 station wagon!
  24. it sure does it ended up wing a Dana 35! From crappy ( in stock CJ form) to crappier. Strange
