This is not unheard of in hardcore wheeling. 9" ford and 14 bolt GM center sections are popular options.

Bags have their place. It is not on jeeps

Yep. Interested in the ROCKer for a SWB

4.5" front will mean the rear is about 1.5" higher then the front if you SOA the rear. You need a minimum of 5.5" in the front IMHO

My jeep put peeve is when people pronounce "Willys" (as in watch you talking 'bout, Willis) as "Willees." And it is "Kizer" not "Kayzer."

What are tires made of? I am a small rim/big tire guy
-
Rim diameter means little when going bigger. Overall diameter does. I ran 16x7's and have for 4 years. There are plenty of charts out there to decode metric sizes. I use tire rack.com as you can search various brands. Not all tires of the same size are the same size ;) I ran 245/75/16 on an unlifted 2wd with no rubbing. Your mileage may vary.

Maybe this one would be an exception. He used to be a member here........... Meth. Not even once

Some people like big rims. I prefer big rubbers!

Comanche Bodies Question
Incommando replied to Mirfster's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have owned both Renix and H.O. 4.0's. I prefer H.O. Renix has its fans but for most it is a PITA for those not familar with it. Got a scan tool? The OBD1 HO is a breeze. Spend the same money to upgrade the HO as you spend upgrading a Renix and you will still be that much ahead. The fact that you have to upgrade the Renix to equal the HO says it all. I don't care if it is throttle body size or exhaust or what; better is better. If it wasn't no one would be suggesting upgrades to level the playing field.... To each his own and like I said: it is just my preference. -
Surrey! But that isn't the same as it is factory stock....lol

Interested to know what that requirement would be? A lack of good taste for one :)

Love that FC show truck. (Oops)

Tell that to the ghost of the guy driving in that video....

Tall skinnies work great in mud. And they are generally easier on axles than the same height but wider tire.

Shortening 2wd shafts sometimes runs into problems. Not always but sometimes. It is a bizarre 2-piece design connected by a rubber sleeve that degrades and must be dealt with prior to welding even if it is not. Besides it is a huge rock-catching monster. An easier to find option is to go to a junk yard and find a shaft that uses the same 1310 u-joints. They are very common under 1/2 ton trucks. I paid $10 for mine. Then have that shortened to fit your old one's length, With new u-joints it runs about $100-$125 around here.

In don't recall one. You can leaf through the project posts maybe?

Minimum winch load rating

Rusty's and others also do a behind the bumper winch mount. have no pictures of mine yet but here is what I have: http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-bumpers/rustys-jeep-bumpers/jeep-xj-cherokee-bumpers/rustys-bumper-front-trail-bumper-w-o-pre-runner-bar-xj.html Image Not Found The winch is mounted 90 degrees from the normal position and tucks behind the bumper. The bumper itself extends forward about the same amount as the factory one. This position also keeps the winch from obstructing the radiator. -

It is two piece. When you engage 4wd a vacuum switch pulls the two parts together. It is called Central Axle Disconnect and it sucks. A common mod is to replace that shaft with a 1-piece shaft.

Oh to be clear I would have bought a nice Warn if it were in the budget. It just wasn't. For 12-15 wheeling trips a year I think I will be OK. I have survived this far without one at all so.... Not sure on the battery. -
Loud Roar from Underside
Incommando replied to Slimjater's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For $150 I put a late model 8.25 from an XJ under my jeep. A MUCH better axle. An Explorer 8.8 is a good option but requires more adaption. -

To each their own but new that thing is $650 and it doesn't even replace the factory bumper. At least in the pictures it also appears to kill approach angle. Warn makes a dandy winch for sure. I am cheap and went with an Engo 9000 for 1/5th the price.
