  1. SR-A's are poor tires. They are a street tire with bad reviews on even wet pavement. I hated them.
  2. 86 models never came from the fatory with a D44. All HD axles were AMC-20's with either a 3.31, 3.54/3.55, or 4.11 ratio. And the AMC looks nothing like either Dana.
  3. The high pinion Dana 30 is a decent axle for the MJ. There are simple upgrades to improve it. Probably the most bang for the buck is replacing the front axle shafts with ones with larger u-joints. As long as you are staying with 33" tires or so the the D30 is fine. Many people run up to 35" tires with them.
  4. The rear is a Dana 44. The front is a Dana 30
  5. Amen. That would be a fair price for the one at the dealer. And the bottom one? Too many red flags on an undesirable model of MJ. For your search: compared to a modern vehicle the MJ's brakes are weak. They use an unusual rear mounted valve to control the rear brakes and it has often quit working. The brake booster is insufficient. A brake booster/MC upgrade is a common and worthwhile improvement. The 4.0 has a habit of leaking oil around the valve cover gasket as it ages. It will look pretty much as you described. The way it runs down the back of the block causes folks to think it is the rear main seal. Most of the time replacing that valve cover gasket and cleaning is all it needs.
  6. No way that you have a D44 front unless someone has done some serious swapping. If your front diff cover looks like your rear diff cover I would bet that you have a D30 front/ d35 rear. That is also the most common combo by far. With a D35 in general and for sure with 35's on it the consensus is that spending any money in that axle is throwing money away. A swap to a later XJ 8.25 or Explorer 8.8 would serve you much better for not much more money.
  7. So are you going for a poser "look" or will you use it the way it looks like it is used? There is a big difference. But be brutally honest here as you will be happier with the end result if you are.
  8. Due to the limited supply rhe cost of good taillights is outrageous. This may be good option for some folks and a needed mod as the supply dries up.
  9. As you can see the only way you will ever get a clear consensus on tires, oil, or ANYTHING else about a jeep is if you are looking for the consensus that no two opinions are alike. :rock on:
  10. So many of these break that it pretty much proves that they are measurably weaker than better rear ends. The specs of the axle bear this out as well. I have seen more than one fail in person. For the $100 I paid for a 29 spline 8.25 I consider it money well spent. The D35 is bashed because even in normal use. It is weak. Congrats for making yours live. If you do wheel than you have surely been around enough of them to know that most do not. Asking a rear end to do basic stuff that a decent light-duty rear end can accomplish is not excessive. Think of it as driving Ms. Daisy: Sure, you can do it. But it is neither fun for those around you or really much of a measure of anything. I once had a guy trying to defend the Yugo. His argument was also that the 99% of people with an opposing viewpoint were wrong but he was not. Me? I play the odds.
  11. You guys would just have to stay home past dusk back in the incandescent days ..lol
  12. For a street truck out is fine ( but in looks better IMHO). If you use your jeep as a jeep then those white letters look like crap in short order.
  13. Around here the little u joints rust away.
  14. For the '91 I am going on what I read here as I have not personally seen a factory '91 4wd. Mine is converted. I do know that '92 was fo' sho' CAD-free as I knew someone who bought one new and kept it until 2010.
  15. I have heard that all my life.. I wonder where it starts. Pronounce it however you wish, I guess. I just feel it is disrespectful to mispronounce the name of the man who fought to make jeep a civilian vehicle and nurtured it along for us to have today
  16. Incommando is correct it was 91-92 some 91's didn't have change year The YJ changed in '95. The XJ/MJ in '91. The '91's do not have CAD although reportedly some early ones did. Most '91s and all '92's were CAD -free
  17. Yep. the front doors off of a four door work. Remember than sometimes year changes and trim levels effect door panel appearance so if you buy a pair they may not exactly match your particular originals
  18. I still wonder about it even with Harbaugh. For the most part He will be using inherited players picked for an old system for year or two. We'll see
  19. Well the '92 won't be CAD IIRC. No need to screw with it at all
  20. The vast majority of the parts are shared with the same year XJ Cherokee most of those parts are plentiful and available from dozens of sources. Some parts are MJ-/specific and are only available used from other MJ's or from a handful of specialty shops. Was there something in particular you were looking for?
  21. If it's free it's for me
  22. I question Michigan being listed
  23. Locked D35's tend to explode rapidly if you use them. They are worse than when open. They have earned their poor reputation
  24. I'll just leave this right here http://btn.com/2015/03/03/sporting-news-ohio-state-nations-no-1-program-top-to-bottom/
