  1. My 87 I6 Renix does not have a fan shroud on the mechanical fan right behind the radiator. I've seen some talk of how these are important - if nothing else it would make me less nervous fiddling for the hood latch with the engine running. https://thejeephut.com/fan-shroud-for-1987-2001-jeep-xj-cherokee-mj-comanche-w-lhd-w-4-0l-engine/ Is that the shroud that goes around the mechanical fan? otherwise it looks very similar to the shroud on the aux fan. Does anyone have a factory fan shroud and maybe a picture?
  2. Full disclosure I am not experienced servicing power steering. Last week I was working on changing the motor mounts and in that process I am sure I moved or knocked/bumped the power steering hoses. My steering still works but I've noticed on a drive recently it feels different like it's weaker or intermittently it's more difficult to turn. i don't really know how to explain it, just a feel. I'm trying to figure out how to go about servicing. I'm guessing just check the levels and maybe hose clamps? There don't seem to be a lot of threads here on power steering maintenance. I am pretty sure it has to be prom messing with the hoses indirectly from reaching through them to mess with the motor mounts
  3. My motor mounts are shot so I ordered some of the Daystar ones off Amazon. I feel like everything is being extra difficult. I propped up the engine by the oil pan. The old ones and the new. I got the old one out near the air intake no problem but I cannot force the new one in. I also am having the hardest time getting the bolt out of the old mount near the ac system and oil filter. I went through the pain in the @$$ of removing the filter and then turning the filter adapter out of the way but no matter how much I jack the engine or let off the Jack it won't come out the last quarter inch. I guess maybe I should have gone for the OEM replacements but I try to make every upgrade a little beefier where possible. If you have tips or tricks I would appreciate them.
  4. Hey I know everyone is telling you the exact right things and I totally agree with them. I will give you a picture of what you want to know too, demand and customer interest. Shamefully I am saying - and I know this doesn't matter with all the other above figures - i would buy for 200, maybe 250. I may not be your ideal customer. I have a tear along the seam in my bench seat and have a vinyl repair kit i've been putting off. My whole interior is blue pleather or whatever. I LOVE the fabric you have with the jeep logo but the color scheme doesn't exactly match my setup. I promise i'm not trying to be negative or anything, and I am not lowballing you, I am just offering an unbiased response that I like it and would want one but i probably wouldn't spend over 250 right now. Contrast that with the SMS headliners guy I really want to buy a headliner but his are up to like 400 something and i just don't have that in the budget right now compared to other work i would do, like an OTK steering upgrade for around 400. I highly encourage you to continue though because we need stuff like this available
  5. https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/jeep-pulls-bruce-springsteen-commercial-report-dwi-arrest/story?id=75822546 Well i guess there were enough people on both sides that Jeep found a reason to get rid of the commercial? I don't think they are going to be happy with the ROI on that ad. I think they're using a Bruce DUI to give them a reason to pull it, but really it was just unpopular imo.
  6. PFFT This is exactly what someone from YOUR side would say... JK obviously. We're on the same side, or the middle, or whatever. This is the correct answer.
  7. My man. Thank you this is what I needed. Capped them and seems ok
  8. The biggest thing is the Renix intake doesn't have the flare for their elbow to latch on, but in the video of the installation they link to they show a guy who buys an adapter to solve that. The biggest thing i'm looking at is the egr valve is gone for me now. When i cap the hoses it seems like it runs well, i just wanted someone out there to clarify if they did the same thing.
  9. @DzimmSpecifically the hoses in the diagram above that go from the vacuum fitting to the airbox and EGR solenoid
  10. Sorry to revive old post. I recently put a similar intake in my vehicle, what did you do with the small air intake hoses? I believe they connect to the EGR valve - or the part that opens the valve to pull in warm air from the exhaust. Now without the airbox it seems like those are completely useless - did you just cap off the hoses?
  11. I love when corporate tells me what to feel and how to behave. I think you guys are going to see starting immediately after the commercial, people are going to be way less pissed off about things going on in the world. Thanks JEEP! P.S. I'm writing Jeep corporate to ask how to slice my sammich today. Should i cut it from the corners or down the middle? P.P.S. Re-watched commercial. Figured it out. Thanks again JEEP!
  12. I figured it out because of your suggestion. The throttle body adapter. Clearly can't figure out how to put it on straight. It has a lip that was sticking out directly in the path of that throttle plate /arm It wanted to stop there but with a little more pressure it went past and then gets hung up on the other side I guess dropping it to neutral made it spike in rpms. I'll move this adapter around and see if that resolves completely. That said, i would still love if someone could diagnose the vacuum hoses and that sensor they run to. I'll break out the manual later when I'm back near a computer since it's a pdf.
  13. You may be on to something. I'm going to take off the boot and check that. I also figured I'd add pictures of the hose situation since it's the last thing I changed before this happened. That skinny hose is unchanged. I know if I remove it the idle shoots up in rpm These two horizontal boots are weird and I'm not sure what to do with them.I noticed when I plugged these hoses the idle and fuel consumption rate goes down. If I take them off the idle shoots up but maybe it would go back down idk. For right now I did the following The top hose I tried to route it where I think it was going originally, to this device or sensor that I don't know what it does. The lower hose originally I just taped and sealed the end of it. There's significant enough pressure/vacuum coming out of it, I have since just left it open... That mystery sensor/vacuum connection has another line next to that yellow looking wire that runs down to this circular thing on the manifold... In the above picture it's the 90 hose Robbie connected to the rusty circular thing. I noticed when I disconnect it nothing seems to happen. That's The throttle body and linkage
  14. Sorry I'm probably dumb not sure what you mean. When I play with the throttle under the hood i pull back on the top part which moves the whole assembly back. There's no play in that arm/plate/spring thing.
  15. Sorry Pete i put this in the wrong forum. I'm all out of sorts i guess
  16. Maybe, but doubtful - I recently put in the stroker bored TB and it looks pristine. I really wonder if it has something to do with the vacuum hoses. Also didn't seem to happen in lower gears. IDK
  17. Need some help thinking through what is causing this sketchy condition... Driving down the road and if I get into fourth gear (especially noticed this on the highway) and accelerator / RPMs go above 2000 the accelerator gets into this death loop where i take my foot off the gas and it just keeps on going. The only way to get it to stop was to put the clutch in - at this point it continues to spike all the way to max throttle (my Bendix reader was showing it hit 9k almost) and then dies back down to idle RPMs. During the time i was driving and the throttle was sticking, i put my foot under the gas pedal to kind of pull it up to make sure it wasn't the pedal was sticking to the floor or whatever. It didn't affect anything, and when i pulled my foot out from under the throttle it went back to whatever RPM it was stuck on. Brakes did not seem to affect the stuck throttle. Variables that must have led to this: This morning, immediately before this started, I replaced my (87 RENIX) air intake with the spectre cowl induction intake. I installed correctly including the vent hoses to the valve cover and to the charcoal canister. There were remaining original small vacuum hoses, the little tiny diameter ones - that in other threads i have read, are no longer required because they lead to the warm air switch thing for when it cold starts. I have taken those baby little hoses and routed them to their original destination (i think but could be wrong) as best I can, but others have said they just capped them so maybe that's important? Other variable, before installing the intake a couple weeks ago I put in the upgraded ECU per cruzer's suggestion, for the 89-90 Renix. I cannot reasonably just remove the intake and replace with oem at this point becuase many of those old hoses were dry rotted. I looked under the hood at the arm from the throttle body and does not appear to be snagging anywhere.
  18. Dumb question but how are you guys finding these things? In the last year I've seen a wj Dana axle listed for 600 bucks. What's a good price for this stuff?
  19. I have an 88 sport truck with Dana 35 and 3.07 in the rear. 4.0 inline 6 engine. Went wheeling yesterday and had a blast but got stuck once had to winch out... But my buddy's wrangler on 35s had no issue. My axle just barely stuck on that rut. I'm running 33s. I really didn't want to regear because I assume it's at least a grand but idk .
  20. Ok good to know i'll try to see if maybe when I was wrapping stuff in conduit maybe i bumped something else. To date i've been pretty blessed without any major wiring gremlins. Any idea what to do with the wires that don't have a connection on the other side of the c101? LIke i mentioned for now i just terminate them but not to ground.
  21. I've read all the tips from cruizer and finally got some time to remove the c101 connector. I watched the youtube and was confident i connected all the matching wires to each other. One question I have though (and maybe it's a dumb question apologies in advance) but the wires that did not have a match on the other side of the connector - what do i do with those? Currently i have left the three or four wires unconnected to anything and taped over them so they're not potentially going to ground or anything. The truck was running good before and I don't really notice any changes, but i did notice my oil pressure guage is now broken. Could be maybe I messed something else up along the way? I'm wondering if the wires without a match on the other side were going to ground through that connector? Any insight or wisdom is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  22. It's weird but I fell in love with the comanche before I even really started to like Jeep as a brand. I've grown way more fond of the brand but for some reason i still prefer the look of the XJ and MJ to the wrangler. I got the comanche because i wanted a small truck with 4x4 and it was rare and beautiful and when i put it in 4low it will go up any hill. I like that they're trying to make a truck now but objectively the gladiator is pretty ugly and still not a truck. The comanche is literally the best of both worlds, jeep and truck. Comanche > all other jeeps for me for whatever reason. Also it's very funny to me that the MJ is a dude magnet, as i explained to my wife. There are some cars/trucks that get girls to look, but this truck is pretty and chicks are dumb (jk). However, nearly everywhere I go some dude will come up and tell me how sick it is. I have never seen the KJ8 before today and I immediately texted my JK friend that we need to do this to his.
  23. Sorry - i just saw this. I got them on Ebay and they were pretty easy. I wanted to make sure they were lined up pretty well so that was kind of a pain. The other thing is they recommended I use rivets - which worked okay for the first couple but i didn't feel like they were super strong so i ended up using hex head self drilling screws from harbor freight to make sure the thing was very tight.
  24. Here's the finished product after installing @krustyballer16 rock sliders. It's a fantastic product, and I am very happy I bought from Krusty over dirtbound or jcr
  25. I'm a little late posting these but I finally got around to getting my rock sliders on. @krustyballer16 is a certified g and came through ahead of schedule on the rock sliders. Dude texted me updates on everything while he was making them. Putting them on was fairly simple Cane with all the hardware
