Turned out to be a light-bulb issue in my tailights. The ground refresh also worked wonders; now that I can actually see it in action.
-
Anybody got a good picture of it*? Since I'm going to be doing a full resto... I figure I might as well have one made up so I can slap it back there, even if I don't own one. :shake: *It = diagram behind the driver's side of the bench / bucket seat of how to mount/dismount jack.

Adding another ground didn't help at all; I even took out the bulbs I replaced to see if they were the culprit. The problem is still on going. Any other ideas? :dunno:

Clutch not releasing
Zenobian_84 replied to nitroxsteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not to :hijack: but I do agree with Ismurphy think this should be a sticky. If not THIS particular post, but one that warns people about the possibility of a bad clutch slave. I've seen at least a dozen threads about the same subject, with the same answers. Not trying to rag on anyone, just stating my own Alright, over. But yeah, sounds like a bad slave. Might I suggest going the external slave route (if you have the $ and knowhow to upgrade to an AX5 with external components) instead of buying a new slave. Although, if you know how to do tranny work, I would just replace the slave and eventually save up to find an external tranny setup. -
Man, that thing is SUHWEEEET.

Picked up a nice 62 piece, barely used Metrinch set at a pawn shop for $50 bucks 2 years ago; the only thing that's given up was my 1/4 adapter.... only because a friend of mine put it to the "Can this be used to torque down 100 lbs?" test. :ack: The answer to that would be.... No.

Cleaned out the connector for the driver's rear top tailight in order to get it working. I scraped out some mustard looking junk that had manifested underneath the bulb. Went to put on my lights, and voila it works as should. I also replaced a burnt out reverse light bulb. The problem is this though: On the way home, whenever I put on my left blinker, my Quartz clock starts flashing like it's going to die (it flashes when the turn signal does, as if the clock were the turn signal). :dunno: Checked the grounds, and the fuse, and both check out okay. Does anyone know what could cause this? It's worth mentioning that my lights work as they should, my radio doesn't fade out, nor does anything else seem amiss. :dunno: :dunno:

:brows: I wish there was, but it's just a hybrid. Although, I am the only owner with a SWB Laredo. ;) :shake: -
Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ

More madness! Went outside with the intent to swap over radiators. Made the mistake of leaving the truck in the sun, instead of moving it under a tree... :fs1: Oh well. Gave me a chance to work on that tan. :chillin: Started off pretty simple. Removed the broken fan shroud and cleaned it up. Look at these "quality fan shroud bolts" the PO left me. :brows: If only I could go back to 1987 and kick the AMC engineer who used these bolts with the rubber boot for the rad supports.... Most of my afternoon revolved around trying to finagle these things off. :headpop: Out with the old, crusty, worn out rad. Good god, look at that mess. Anybody know what that little copper coil is called? Couldn't find a mention of it anywhere in the repair manual. :dunno: Cleaned and now looks 100% better. No pictures of the cleanliness though. In with the new, shiny, radiator. Truck's starting to look better now, piece by piece. New rad support bolts to replace the old rusty ones. Much better. -
Went from this :headpop: To this. :clapping:

Yet Another Gauge Problem!!!!!
Zenobian_84 replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not 100% sure, but I've learned that if you pull the needles off, there isn't a way to re-calibrate them back so that they'll display properly. If this is true, you'll probably have to get a hold of a new gas gauge to swap in. But then again, even if it isn't true, I'd still go ahead and swap a new gas gauge; when your gauge only shows 3/4 when full, I'm pretty sure it's going south. That, or you have a leak in your tank (probably not) *knock on wood* Hope this helps. -
Guessing you have not seen too many? Si? :dunno: Not too many good looking ones that is. For the most part, they all looked like they've been through a war or two. Stains all over the inside, rips in all the seats, grungy dash, you name it, I've probably seen it. As far as looks go, this one is definitely the nicest, by far. I don't know if it's just because it's FL, or what, but most of the XJ's here are in piss-poor condition; for $1000 down here, you won't be getting anything near as good as ismurphy's.
-
That has to be the most pristine XJ I've ever seen. I wish I could have bought that instead of the one I was originally going to get before I found my MJ.

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Continuing the ongoing saga of the '87. Decided to change the name of the thread while I was at it too; I just didn't like the original name for it. On the tail end of February, I got my grubby hands on a free diamond plated toolbox for the old girl. Still looking at getting a lock for it (the guy took it out to put on the new box my dad gave him for his Sierra) but in the meantime, I'm content with it sitting in the garage for now. Gave it a thorough cleaning and repainting on the inside. Looks pretty sharp :brows: Mockup in the truck. Going to be drilling through the bed, much to my chagrin. :( A week or two after my last junkyard run, a buddy I know called me up to help him go out to one of the local LKQ yards near him. 15 mins down I4 at 70, and we arrived at the Orlando yard. I had never been to that particular one. You don't want to know what the people did to that Bronco in the foreground. It was all kinds of horrible looking. Definitely not one of the better garage-done camo paint jobs. :ack: Spent about 40 minutes wandering through the isles and isles of junk to help my friend find the only 300ZX on the lot. Matched his '85 inch for inch, but he really didn't pull many pieces from it. :shake: Oh well. His loss, I suppose. :hmm: Had to go off the trail to find this DJ. Never had a chance to see one up close, what a beaut! If you can get past the stick on faux brush leaves. The real workhorse of the 70's. I wish I could have picked this up; I need some practice on engine disassembly and the ins and outs of doing it. Besides, this is probably one of my favorite engines of all time. One day I'll get a 258... :fs1: The interior of the DJ. In pretty good shape if you didn't count all the dust and minor surface rust. A very do-able restoration project. I can only begin to wonder how this thing wound up being here... Here's a few random pictures I snapped while we were there. Ended up with a new "upscale" trim of dash bezel (silver lined), burgandy dash pad (now black dash pad), and a few other odds and ends all for around $20. Not too bad. :brows: Fiddling with the old wheel, attempting to get it all rigged back up. :wall: Frustration got the better of me when I snapped off a piece that made the horn sound. So..... I switched over to this. Just have to finish wiring up the horn, and that should be good to go. Just within the last week, I decided that enough was enough. I finally lost it when a clump of that gritty, nasty green headliner fell in my eye while I was driving down the road. So... doing what any sane, calm person does, I tore apart the interior to remedy this problem. :headpop: Shiny..... that's some nice factory paint up there. Pieces of stuck headliner; didn't bother to take them down. :peek: Small amounts of surface rust creeping in the background. Most of it wiped off with a rag though. About as good as it gets for a 19 year old. Definitely not quality stuff (the "quality stuff" was about $25 a can  ) but for $11 I got.... This. And this. Not bad for a first attempt. Although the nice headliner lasted all of 5 days in the FL heat, a nice staple gun fixed the sagging mess. I'll take a stapled headliner any day over that green $#!&. It's also worth mentioning that the headliner is both a PITA to put in, and to take out. Picked this up a few days ago, thanks to my mom. And should have this in by tomorrow's end. All in all, pretty productive last month. Should be upgrading to the newer YJ valve cover by weekend's end. :clapping: -
Mostly old video games / console stuff; and old wrestling figures. On occasion, I'll pick up some rare, neat-o stuff, but I haven't been able to as of late. :dunno: Also, nice collection of watches. Got a buddy of mine who does the same thing.

Picked one up early this morning and should be able to do the conversion by weeks end. :wrench:

How much did your's run you? Out of curiosity... :hmm: I'll give these guys a call tomorrow most likely.

Been surfing the web today to not much avail. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has or has heard of a replacement (other than OEM specs) for a radiator on a 2.5. Most places I've checked only offer the OEM specs (single row, aluminum/plastic style) as a replacement, ranging anywhere from $140 to around $200. Not in a serious hurry to spend that kind of dough on a new rad, but in the near future, I'd like to replace my worn out one with something new. Keep in mind, it's a pretty stock DD truck, w/ no 4x4 and it doesn't see heavy wear and tear use most of the time (IE: having the bed fully loaded down, or being used as a serious work truck)

If you don't mind me asking, where'd you pick up a new cable at? Mine's starting to get a ridiculous wobble to it whenever I hit the gas. -
Like the posting says, need an aluminum 2.5 Valve cover from a Wrangler. *Picture by Lexluthier72* Must not be warped, cracked, or generally in very poor shape. Not looking to spend a fortune here, but I'll pay a reasonable amount; just make me a reasonable offer. PS: If anyone can also send the PVC connection / air inlet connector / oil cap, or give me some part #'s where I can buy them aftermarket, I'd appreciate it. Unfortunately, there is no such thing a Jeep Wrangler in a Junkyard, OR a P&P down here in FL; so you can see how difficult it is tracking down an Aluminum cover down here (at least the 4 Yards I've been to). You can see what kind of pickle I'm in. :fs1: Not to mention all the other vehicles that ever had them in them, are virtually non-existant here.

Just a quick test. Prior posting was named "Test"

:clapping: I like it! Gonna keep an eye on this one. Also, are those rims steels? I wish I could have found a cool pair like those when I was rim hunting. They match the ones I was looking for to a T. -
Haha, can't blame you. But I do understand the concept of it. Thanks Don. Didn't know they made aftermarket ones of these.
