Today I replaced the leaky coolant bottle. And I painted the grey area on my wheels with POR15. I think I like it. :Canadaflag:

I grabbed some spare tail lights a half a year ago. It's a rare event here when a Comanche arrives at pick n pull. I usually daily check pick n pull online to see if one shows. This Comanche had about 160,000 k's on the speed o. I sure could use that motor, mine just turned 500,000. Not sure if I've got the know how to swap engines. 2360

Nope, Yukon and NWT are territories. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_and_territories_of_Canada

Today I took parts off a 88 Comanche at pick n pull for my 88 Comanche. Grabbed the maroon floor rug, which was in pretty good shape. Amazingly, there wasn't much rust under it. Took the carpet home and cleaned it, turned out pretty good. I wanted the bumper, but I didn't have deep socket. Grabbed a under hood insulation off a Cherokee and slapped it in my Comanche. And grabbed a bunch of smaller odds and ends. 2360

Had the speed-0 flip 500,000. I put on about 440,000 of them. Also did an oil change. Was planning on buying some cheap oil on special at Wal-Mart, 5 litres for $7.88. But I decided to do the 500 grand treat for the motor and got some quality Shell Rotella 15-40W. Shell claims 22% less friction. I've still got the original power steering and rear end fluid, but I did top up the diff the other day. I think I cured that weird noise at rear right wheel when I back up.

Today I adjusted the headlights a bit. I'd like to redo the "topper" with some black nylon material, don't care for the faded blue. The antenna worked pretty good on top of the cab, but being so high it was hitting trees and other low stuff. It's a bit of a bell ringer when the antenna makes a strike. Plus the sheet metal on the cab was kind of weak and tended to flex a bit. Most of the time the antenna laid flat on the "topper" which is this side of useless. I figured at the back with the option of tying it lower would be better. Not that it matters, CB's have pretty much gone the way of 8 tracks.

Today I moved the CB antenna from on top of the cab to the left rear bumper. Still have to run the wire to it. I painted the top the header panel and touched up some other spots on the wiper grill. Replaced portion of the plastic piping from the value cover. That took about 8 hrs.

I get my seat covers from "do it yourself". Went to a fabric shop got me some of that there furry stuff, white, and went at 'er. I've did the passenger side and it was a fair amount of work. I've kind of lost the motivation to do the other seat. The ol sewing machine was put to max, not sure if can survive another sew job. Cleaned the rust on the seat brackets and painted them. All in all have to say I am impressed the finished job. The furry seat works great for the cool canachuck winters.

Today I pulled the front wheels, hoping to find why I got a vibration going down the freeway. And I pulled the drum off the right rear cause when I back up there's growl/squeal noise. Thought maybe some of the brake components fell apart, again. Everything was good. Then I pulled the rear bumper off to put some POR15 on some rusty spots under there. Yesterday I put a grey Cherokee carpet in the cab. Had do some cutting to fit it in. Day before that, went to pick and pull and put in another starter. 20 bucks, I love it. Stopped at a car wash just before going to work. Washed the comanche, started it, then shut it off cause the rev's wouldn't go down. Tried to start it, nothing. Just the clicking sputtering of the fuel pump. Great! Push the comanche out of the stall and then had brain wave. Grabbed a cresent wrench crawled under and smacked the starter a few times. Much to my delight the comanche started right up. That was close, the comanche almost left me high and dry for I think the first time, save having an accident back in 93. More to follow in the days ahead. Chow.

Thanks for the input guys. I cleaned up the rust fairly well, then did the POR15 thing, etc etc. It took two tries to get the windshield in. First time it leaked pretty bad. Second time I put the sealant on the pinch weld instead of the window. Just had some rain and snow tonight, so far no leaks. Next windshield replacement should be a piece of cake. Thanks agian.

I'm replacing my windshield. Isn't the windshield suppose to have a foam strip running around the inside beside the sealant? Also got some rust to deal with. Any suggestions on how to deal with it?

Sometime back in the 90's I made this canopy. It's a wooden frame with a cloth covering. Here's inside look. The covering has a limited life, I usually buy cheap material. It takes about a day to sew up a new one. I've got a layer of plastic on the top of the frame. After I painted my comanche with a brush and roller I painted the cloth also. The cloth doesn't retain the same shade as the truck. If I could come across some digital camo material I think I'd make a new cover. -
Here I am with my first jeep way back when. Actually it was just a loaner. Back when I was the OC's (officer commandant) driver for 15 Sp Sqn (fifteen support squadron) 1 CER (one combat engineer regiment). Personally I had issues with this vehicle. The independent suspension was OK, but that whiny rear end was really annoying especially at highway speeds. And the steering was worse, required constant concentration keeping the it on the straight and narrow. On a road move to Chilcotin for a winter warfare exercise I was driving north with the OC and had trouble keeping it between the painted lines. The OC got concerned and after a bit of a discourse and my explanation that the mechanics didn't think it worth correcting or not able to fix the problems the OC volunteered to drive. That was a short drive, I guess he figured our odds of survival were better with me at the wheel. He had me report it again to the mechanics but nothing really improved. Eventually they replaced the vehicles with the German made Iltis. http://www.m38a1.ca/iltis.html That was a better vehicle to drive. Had that puppy airborne on exercise once while listening to some Top Gun tunes. When I landed again there was a racket coming out of the engine compartment. Thought I did some serious damage, turned out the shovel fastened to the underside of the hood came off and landed on the motor hitting the fan. Whew! I was kind of impressed the gov't sprung for brand new Iltis's (considering most of our other trucks [6x6 deuce and halfs] were built back in the fifties, the MUTT's drawbacks might of been the reason why. http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/kj/100302/676r6/8420jke_20.jpeg Those trucks could go anywhere, and pack a load also. In low range maxed out in 3rd, you're looking at 11 mph. Anywho, I'm rambling, chow

Hi, just registered the other day, thought I'd do the intro thing. I'm from :Canadaflag: I bought my Comanche back in 1990 in Chilliwack BC. (A nice little community nestled in Fraser Valley not far from Vancouver BC) My Comanche is a 1988 two wheel drive with a 4L. It's got about 496000 kms (296,000 miles) It's been quite a ride, over the years. Lately I've been giving the ol' comanche more TLC after years of indifference. After some twenty odd years of I decided a paint job at minimal cost was in order. So after a can or so of Tremclad and a brush and roller. voila. Did the sky light mod in the cab years ago not long after going for a spin in a helicopter. The ceiling console is a recent addition from an XJ. Pick n Pull is great recreation. Oh, had to redo the sun visors for a better fit on the lid. Took out a street light by TranCanada Hwy back in 93. I thought I was going to bite the dust on that one. But the Comanche hit the lamp pole right on the right side frame. The pole went vertical out of sight, the comanche climbed over the cement footing (between 1 and 2 feet high), with both wheels and didn't leave a scratch anywhere. Which to this day I can't figure how. I did get two flat tires. The front tire went flat immediately, which I changed then later the rear went flat as I start driving to work. Every time the wheel came around to the ground a bit of air came out of the slit in the sidewheel. When the rear went flat that is the only time I can remember when the Jeep left me high and dry. I probably couldn't gone much further anywho, the rad was banged up and leaking, various parts were broken like the fan shroud, battery tie down and what not. Put in a new instrument cluster not long ago, a direct swap, gotta luv that and the Tach. Well that's a rough outline of the Jeep. Hopefully with summer coming I'll do some more fixing up. Chow!
