Dude, CW, you should go get some spray dye for that headliner. Mine looked just like that and I took it out and dyed it when I did all the work last summer. Autozone or Advanced, I forget which one, had the dye and it took a few coats but it matched up pretty decent. I have the same blue interior... I don't know if your headliner is saggin, fortunately mine wasnt so I just scraped off the fluffy stuff that was left on it and dyed it. Nice and simple...

Sooo, is that river what killed your MJ?

So today Michigan Tech cancelled class for the first time in 20 yrs, thanks the blizzard we had last night. Last night, I went to a friends to do some homework and as I was driving home I got a call from my roomates. They had gone drift busting and gotten two trucks stuck around 9:15. It was now 11:00. So I went home and loaded the MJ up with shovels, a high-lift and some sand and waited till another truck showed up which had my one roomate in it. (Scott) hiked out and met up with his friend in this truck and they ran into town to get me and get some gas. The other guys were still out in the crew cab of Scott's '05 Chevy 2500 and had given up on getting the '91 Ford Ranger unstuck. So we set out to go get them for the first time at around 11:45. We had to do about 5mph the whole way there because we could not see the road. Once we arrived and started driving back on the gravel road that the trucks were buried in, we started to get stuck ourselves. I would like to mention at this point that the other truck on the rescue mission was a F-250 which I did have to tug out to get him back to safety... I Love My MJ! Well, we were going no where fast so we decided to come back and get some sleds and ride them out and have a truck waiting to pick up the guys out there to bring them home with. So we came back home and grabbed two sleds, I got my other roomates crew-cab F-150 and we set back out again... The sleds made it out just fine and we got the guys back no problem. After spending 5 hours in the truck they were happy to see us. We thought we were home free. Wrong! On the drive back out, I drove the F-150 off the road a tad bit, but after 15 mins of everyone pushing we were able to get it out and finally get home @ 3:00... So the two trucks sat out in the middle of the road all night and were rescued with the aid of the snowplow, a wrecker and a $120 towing fee for each one early this morning. I guess a news crew followed the plow out to them and the guys will be on the news tonight, can't wait to see it... I have no pics of any trucks stuck, the snow drifts piled higher and higher as the night drew on and no one wanted to take the time to snap some pics. I did get a shot of the MJ last night after we got back and one again this morning. The drifts here at the house were nothing, but I guess Scott had snow in his engine compartment this morning and a drift up to his passenger side window. It made for one heck of a night. I Had Fun! And yes, thats the 2500 that was stuck sitting next to the MJ after he got it back this morning...

Yah, problem is that I don't have a hitch yet. AND I want to make it nice and beefy and be stable enough to cruise on the freeway with it. I'll probably get a big canoe. I'll tie down the front and rear of the canoe at the gunrails by tieing into my front and rear tow points and it will sit on the roll bar and this rack for the back. The other thing I don't like about the hitch one is that it could sway from side to side and I want something sturdy when I take it on the trails to get back to the river... I think I have a good plan of what I want. I'll throw up a hashed up drawing later to show ya.

So, this summer I will hopefully have some time to rent a canoe and go do some paddeling. I will be getting the rollbar from 88swampedmj soon when I am home for spring break. While I am there, I'll install that and hopefully get a rack made up for the rear of the bed so a canoe can set on the rollbar and rear rack. I am thinking of a modular design that is three peices and can all bolt together for ease of storing it when not in use. It'll be a triangulated design and mount right in front of the tailgate. Any ideas you guys have that you'd like to throw my way? Of course, once its done, I'll post some pics!

Mine's an '89 from a wrangler (258). I got a new bushing with my clutch kit and I looked at it and the one that was already in the crank and they were the same. So I threw some grease in the one that was in, and checked it for tightness and it is working just fine so far...

Ummmm? The pilot bearing is different on the two trannies? I left it in when I did my swap, the old one was just replaced and I THOUGHT they were the same...

Thats an old FC! Cool, I'm liking the system setup in the cab. I do think those rims belong on the street though ;) -
So the story is that I have 3.5" coils in the front and I bought the Rusty's 4" spring packs for the rear. Thing is that the darn rear packs put way over 4" of lift on the thing. So I took out the bottom leaf and it sat it down some. So I looked at the truck once I was done and said that if the front sits this high and the back is a little higher, than you could say that the back is now at 4" and the front at 3.5". So thats what I say and in being modest, I put the 3.5" number in my sig. The rear packs are Rusty's and the front springs are Rubicon Express, I bought them used. I bought brand new shocks from Rusty's too. They work, but they are nothin special. In my opinion, it rides like a truck should, you hit a bump at 55 and the back kinda does the lil hop. My S-10 rides like a car and I hate that feeling.

OOOO, can I have one too? Probably going to get a 40 series next year as well along with a whole new pipe for it. How much did what you got run ya?

I find it interesting to see just how little XJ there is left in that rearend of his Jeep. That thing is a monster. I'm loving the diamond plate inner fenders.

Cool, thanks!

The driveshaft I have on there is a cut down 2wd shaft. I have some play on the slip yoke. Anyone know off the top of their head just how much longer a D44 snout is than an 8.25?
-
Found an MJ 44 close to home FS. It has my 3.55's already in it and I've wanted one of these since I have learned that they were an option on MJ's. Question is: When I put it in the MJ will I have to shorten or lengthen my driveshaft to do it? I have a 27 spline 8.25 in the rear now...
-
It would really depend on how nice your ElCo is and how badly you want it gone. If its a show winning ride, no 1986 XJ is worth letting it go on a straight up trade...
-
Yah, I wouldnt drive that down the road. If that thing locks up when you are cruising at 50 there are lots of things that could happen to you and your MJ, its not worth risking either one. Pop the cover next time before you walk away from a yard with a diff. The one I buy from stands behind their stuff...
-
My old XJ had it come on when it was low on fluid, you might have messed something up when you messed with the prop valve...IDK
-
$4000 CASH would pry mine away from me. Yah, I paid much less than that for it, but to replace it in this wonderful snow right now would mean buying something from the dealership tomorrow. Plus I have way more time into this thing than I even thought I'd have when I first started off. Its worth much more to me sitting in my driveway than what some website says its worth knowing I can depend on the old girl when the temps drop to -10 like they were last week. I love my MJ!
-
Yep, thats kinda what I was thinking about already getting some painted ones would make the prep alot easier...
-
So next summer when I spray my new Basecoat/Clearcoat Royal Blue Metallic on the MJ I would like to also spray the fender flares the same color. Right now, I have the stock black rubber ones and am wondering what I need to do to get them prepped for paint. Does anyone know a difference from the black ones and painted ones? Just wondering what I'll have to go through. I want a nice clean look like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-Jeep-Comanche-1992-Jeep-Comanche-Pickup-Long-Bed-Nice_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6286QQihZ013QQitemZ230086207584QQrdZ1

painting leaf springs question

I like to see the loaded MJ in the background, way to use 'er. -
I don't know how conventional this is, but when we had our CJ we flushed it with kerosene. We drained the oil and filled it back with kerosene and started it up and let it idle for 5 mins. The Jeep guy that told us this also told us that YOU SHOULDNT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL when you do this. The viscosity isnt there. It cleaned alot of things out, but the seals also started leaking afterward... I don't know if it helped things or hurt things in the long run...
-
Yah dude, throw those tires you posted in the other thread on that and get rid of the brush guard and at least paint the bumpers black and you will be surprised how nice that truck will look then.
-
Thats one heck of a project. IDK particulars about mounts and things, but you will surely have to swap harnesses and maybe even go deeper to get things to work. I'm sure its able to be done though, just make sure you have the time for it and are committed to it all before you start.
