'86 MJ 2.5L ECM....good?
eaglescout526 replied to SoCalManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You know, I am not sure. According to the schematic there is only one connector between the pump and C100 and that's the three prong plug. So the only thing I can think of would be to examine the pink with tracer wire and see if theres any breaks or rips in the insulation that could've caused corrosion. My other idea is to plug C100 back in and check the voltage but I believe you have to screw the bolt back in just to get the two halves to seat properly. -

Yeah but I don't think the problem will lie in the wiring unless the wiring under the cab got the insulation chewed up from road debris and corroded any exposed wire or theres some resistance in the bulkhead plug. -

Doesn't sound like a lot of resistance. Course be better if we has none but that resistance could be anywhere and we aren't looking to tear up the interior and fuse block just to find it. Alright lets slap her back together. -

No sorry. It was an after thought of my prior statement. Probe it before you reconnect it. I want to see if theres any more resistance in the line. I would probe it from the engine bay and see how far you can bring the FP connector to you. -

Perfect! No resistance from the relay to the block. Hopefully meaning no more rooting around in the engine bay harness. Now let see what we get at the pump once you get it all back together. I'm not sure how possible it is but are you able to probe 100_F4 on the bulk head to the FP connector? If you can we should get an Ωhm reading on that. -

I did say I didn't think it was that accurate right? Lol. Anyways that's good those have batt voltage so there's no resistance there. Lets see where number four is. -

I think this is gonna be a fun cruising car. I think I already have an idea on how I want to do the brake master cylinder. But first things first, either find the black widow or burn the car down. Lol. But aside from that for how good the interior looks you ought to think it should run right out of the box, I will have to see when I hit that point. -

Yeah whether the relay is in the socket or not, we will still find the three that are hot. No worries about talking out loud, helps one to think. -

Ok so you found the three that are hot. Now the fourth one shall become hot when you put in the jumper. Leaving the relay in while finding the first three was fine. Once the fourth one is found we need to see how many volts are getting there. -

Yeah I would be skeptical on how accurate it is but it'll get figured out. -

So including the bypassed relay, 4 should have power. I would not bypass the relay right now and find the 3 that have power so it makes finding the bypassed wire easier. -

Ωhm. These are correct as well for 86. Didn't mean to take that long, out and about. -

Yes give me a little bit. -

I can’t imagine anything else showing voltage. Can’t turn the truck on with that unplugged. -

I honestly have no idea. But it should be one of the few prongs with power when you jump the relay. -

That's exactly why I think it is for the inside view under the dash. But theres no way to find the orange wire to the connector is there? -

Hmmmmm, well what the pic is from the book is probably what you would see if you tore out the fuse box and were looking at that head on. So my guess is is that some of the prongs on the engine side are probably shared by two smaller clips on the otherside, say if it was a power or ground wire. But that's the only pic the 86 electrical manual gives of C100 -

Good eye Ωhm. I even have the pic up on my second screen and the _C4 is right there in my face. Here this will help: -

Nope, nothin tells me which prong it is. All it says it is on orange wire. -
Generally there would be either a Pentastar logo, part number or both. Even the box would have something to do with Mopar or AMC. But when picking up an aftermarket body part like the light bezels or even sheet metal, you can feel and tell it is aftermarket or cheaply made. Might be just me but when I hold an OEM part, it feels...right.

Gotta say my MJ too for my DD.

Whats bad is it is everywhere. Ive probably cleaned my C101 about 10 times and when my truck has some bizarre issue, I clean the C101 with electrical contact cleaner and that stuff still comes out. -

(X) could very well end up being an injector problem. I would get it as clean as you can get it and make sure the contacts don't have any gunk on them before putting the two halves together.
