As in the one on the back of the head that tells the gauge what to do?
-
Ok hopefully this is the last update to this thread. Turns out I had wayyyy overtightened the hose on the bottom of the condenser and had pulled the threads. So that same day I rushed to the junkyard and luckily found an 88 2door XJ which had it's entire A/C system recently replaced. Using the condenser and each line from it, I did a vacuum leak downtest overnight with it and it held. Fast forward to today and all the R134A is in and it's blowing cold! Pressures were normal. Only thing I need to adress now is why my electric fan never kicks on. It's from a 96 XJ, but the connector was the same so I had it plugged in. I'd really rather not just wire the fan up to a switch on the dash, so if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what tells the fan when to turn on, thank you.

I might too. Not very happy with how this rock auto hose fit. The "muffler" on the one is no where near where it should be, and theres two slight kinks in the rubber line, but we will see how it does under vacuum and pressure.

Yea thats what I did. Everything is now finger tight. Was going to try to get all the fittings fully tightened down tn but I started to kink the 90 degree fitting on the bottom of the receiver so decided to stop and come back tomorrow when it's not dark out and I aint rushing. So assuming all goes well, I should be able to start doing a leakdown and pressure test with the whole system tmr, and if it seems healthy then I'm charging it

Now that I'm looking at rock auto more thoroughly, none of the driers have a HPCO, and these are designed for r134a, even tho they are under the 1989 MJ section. Would a factory r134a system not have a HPCO? Do I need one in mine? How important is it?

new drier doesn’t have the switch. Can I just throw the old one on there or do I need to order a r134a switch or do I even need one at all? Kinda bummed bc I was ready to put in all my new a/c stuff

You can submit a request to be in the central parking area where your jeep will get more attention. I got accepted. Its just that you have to be there by 8:15 and aren't supposed to leave til 12

Header Panel Difference between 84-90 and 91-96

Yea feel free to point out things I forgot about or simply never knew about. -
This isn’t the most in depth or important but since I have the two I figured I’d make this post and possibly save someone from grabbing a part that one fit from the junkyard. If you didn’t know, the number of pieces and way it’s split between the headlamp doors and grille changes in 91(also note the Jeep emblem changes style). The newer style only consists of 3 pieces. If you take a 91+ header panel and try to install older headlamp and side marker doors, they won’t fit. However, if you do some trimming like I did, they can slide into place, although the way I did it was very crude and everything was barely held together. The blue lines in the pics show where I cut, and the circles show where I may have trimmed some, but can’t really remember. As far as I’m aware overall dimensions will line up with the fenders, so if you wanted to swap a different style onto your MJ or XJ, you can, just as long as the grille and headlamp doors are the same style, unless your willing to modify the panel. The red one which is spray painted white is off a 96 XJ. The regular red one is off an 87 MJ

I still haven't installed the new cruise control motor and vacuum lines and such yet, so that may end up fixing it when I install it. After I install the rest of my CC, if I still have issues then I'll look further into it.

I know it has vacuum all the way to the ball but I guess it could have maybe cracked

Any experts on aluminum wheel polishing?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ah ok -
I suspect I have a vacuum leak somewhere as when I change throttle position signficantly, the HVAC doors loose vacuum and all the air reverts back to the defrost vent. This is especially noticeable when cruising in 5th gear. Also, when you turn the engine off, the HVAC door motors loose vacuum within a second, and I would assume they would hold some vacuum in the reservoir for longer than that. https://cruiser54.com/?p=121 I haven't inspected my vacuum harnesses thoroughly yet, but I do know that both connections on the valve cover sit at an angle rather than flush, enough to let oil vapor build up over the valve cover over time. My question is could these also be the source of a vacuum leak big enough to cause these issues, or do I need to look for something bigger?

I might try some heavy scotch bright and see if that will allow either of the products I'm using to have the same affect as it did with the other wheels -

Ended up deciding it was just really dirty. I used some oven cleaner on it and that helped a lot. After that used some nevr dull cotton stuff and then polished it again. It looks a lot better but it’s still not a reflective chrome like the others -

Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
After continuing to polish a lot in small sections I got it looking as good as the other 3 in those local spots. It will take a loooong time to do the whole thing but ig I'll have to. -

Did you use a sanding pad on a grinder? -
Never tried it before, but went out and got nevr-dull wading polish, mothers mag and aluminum polish, and a mothers power ball. 3 of the 4 wheels I got to what is good enough for me. But one of them, which was noticeably more dull to begin with, came out basically unchanged. Anybody know how I can get this one closer to the rest? these two pics show one of the “good” ones after polishing. before and after I polished the bad one first wheel is the bad one, the other 3 are what I’m considering “good” If all it takes is to just simply keep adding polish and using the power ball until I see results then lmk, but the other 3 didn’t take long to look like that

Obviously my bushing is worn out, but there’s also a small groove worn into the bottom of the clutch pedal linkage. Does that need addressed? And is my set up supposed to have two bushings?
