Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it fails in the future, I'll give an update here. If it continues to work forever then it might not be a bad idea for other people who don't want to take apart the column and do it the better way. -
Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Behold the not so temporary temporary solution! I drilled a hole in the column plastic, then got my dad to safety wire it. If anyone knows how to use safety wire, it’s an aircraft technician -

Running wire from cab to rear

Doesn't the parking brake cable have it's own grommet? Might fit there better than the harness rubber plug, idk tho -
Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm 90% sure that I didn't keep the cable that goes to it, but I can look to my parts and if I find it I'll use it. But for now, I'll try to come up with another temporary solution before I tear apart the whole column. And worst case, if my next solution fails when I'm out parking somewhere, I can just disconnect a few things under the hood to make it not start. -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I mean I don't remember noticing a problem, but I could have easily just not noticed. I'm not too worried about it, I'll just add those to the list of things I for sure need to grab from a Cherokee with a black interior next time I happen to see one. -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, the driver side does appear to be further towards center than the left, you can see it in the pics I posted -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Jesus, has anybody melted a wire or started a fire from a courtesy light on the lower dash? I just got them hooked up and they are hot enough that it’s an instant burn when you touch them -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh ok, I coulda sworn there was a “cruise” light on the left side of the gauge cluster -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
While I’m here, for cruise control, I’m pressing different buttons while I sit here in idle, but no lights are coming on the dash. Is the only indicator that cruise is working when your moving and engage it? -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea, it’s less than a 1/4 inch from touching the other visor. the cloth/visor part itself does have a tiny bit of side to side play along the rod, but the rod itself seems solid, not slide-able -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I’ll just leave it. It can still pop into the clip, just that some of the felt is against it, but no big deal -
Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
These visors came from an 87 Comanche Chief, which was automatic and 4wd. It’s now in my 89 base model which started out as manual and 2wd and now is ax15 swapped and 4wd -

Driver side sun visor too long?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Like I’d have to make new holes? -
Sun visor from an 87 MJ, going into a 89MJ. Passenger side seems right, but the driver side is way too long and won’t fit. What’s the deal with this?

Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Never mind, it slowly pushes away until it locks. Can I use a zip tie or something to hole it in place? I don’t see any issue with that as long as it doesn’t come loose or slip off -
Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, that will make it a lot easier. But right now the rod is pulled towards the driver, and the key can freely cycle to everywhere it needs to be and it doesn’t kick the rod forward. Is there anything wrong with me just leaving it like that? What would make me have to take it apart and remove it? -
Everyone’s favorite question to see under modification and repairs. But I don’t see what these go to, and ofcourse they are the only connectors I didn’t label. this 3 wire connector comes off the same loom as the wide and thin connector on the column. this single wire comes right off the loom coming from the computer

Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For me when it’s pulled toward the firewall, I can’t turn the key all the way off. What’s the name of your write up? -
Why does key not remove from ignition
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nevermind! Found it, I’ll post a pic incase anyone else has this problem and finds this. this ball joint thing is how the column knows if an auto trans is in park. It needs to be pulled towards the driver to allow the key to be removed -
87 automatic cruise control column, swapped onto a 89 manual MJ. Key clicks into what I think is accessory, then run, then start. But when rolled all the way back the key won’t come out. I’m guessing this has to do with the neutral safety switch kinda deal from the auto. What do I have to do? Pic shows key as far backwards(counter clockwise) as it lets me turn it

From the "Removal and replacement of my slider back window" thread: What kind of sealant is this?
-
Oh yea I know, my rear window has gotten BAD so once I get the dash wired up to where it runs and therefore can move again, I'll probably put priority on getting the new window in.
