I do definitely need to redo gaskets bc it leaks like a mf. So I’m looking for a good kit for that too. How involved/annoying is changing the bearings too? Not sure if I want to but it’s kinda another one of those “while I’m there” things
-
Gonna need a SYE kit. Any good recommendations out there? I’ll be making roughly 350 hp after my engine swap, so if some are stronger than others I’ll get as strong as I can. Ax15 and np231

ah ok sweet, thanks

Looking at possibly getting an a XJ for a daily soon. I found a 96 2wd 5 speed 4.0 xj. All I'm wanting to know is, could that have a ba/10 or would they all be ax-15s by then? Also out of curiosity, when did they start putting the nv3550 in?

My axle tube seals are leaking on my newish dana44. Does anyone know a part number or anything to find the right seals? I mainly ask because back when I was getting new brake hardware, it was considered odd that I had an XJ dana44 with the 9 inch brake drums instead of 10 inch drums. I wanna make sure I get the right seals.

Spare Tire Carrier Question
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Doesn’t it require drilling out rivets or spot welds to take it apart? -
My truck came with a broken cable on the spare tire holder under the bed. I've always thought about fixing it and putting a full sized 32 inch spare down there to match my tires, never really occurred to me that it's a pretty small cable, and if it were to break could cause a lot of damage by dropping a 32 inch tire under the bed while driving lol. Has anyone ever done this? May just throw the donut under to use in a pinch, and only bring my full sized spare on dedicated offroading trips.

Dana 44 Rebuild Kit Reccomendations?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Update, I went and picked up that dana 35 kit from summit this morning and got it all installed and so far all seems well, need to tighten up my parking brake cable still tho. So yeah I guess someone did put d35 brakes on it, but fine by me, maybe wayy into the future after my engine swap I'll do a rear disc conversion but I doubt I'll need it. -
Dana 44 Rebuild Kit Reccomendations?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've found a few examples of drums and full kits for dana 35s from YJs and TJs which match the 9 x 2.5" on my XJ Dana 44. I found this which if will work I'd be pleased to get as it's half the price of the other stuff I was seeing lol. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwr-koe15300dk?seid=srese1&ppckw=pmax-vf-power-stop&gclid=Cj0KCQjw97SzBhDaARIsAFHXUWAaaE2dl9IGmxI25lUI8E6qqCd93IfN89LCJCbOW2Upurb4q0wnpE8aAg4uEALw_wcB -
Dana 44 Rebuild Kit Reccomendations?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I got to cleaning it up and I'm gonna hopefully have it swapped by tn, once I we figure out this brake thing I’ll get the right rebuilt kit. In the meantime, I realized my non c clip Dana 35 has cooling fins, 10 inch drums and 1 3/4” pads, while like I said, the d44 has 9 inch drums with no fins, and 2.5” pads. Note the Dana 35 came off a Cherokee as well, not sure the year tho. In the pics the one inside is the Dana 35 and the one outside is the Dana 44. In like the 3rd to last pic I did find a code on the passenger side backing plate. Its hard to make out, looks like maybe “BH dq24” -
Dana 44 Rebuild Kit Reccomendations?

I couldn’t find a number on either backing plate, but I found numbers on the tube on either side of the diff, as well as some on the diff. -

Dana 44 Rebuild Kit Reccomendations?
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No idea :/, if needed I could ask the person I bought it from, can't guarantee they know tho, pretty sure it was being used on a trail rig -
Putting a rear dana 44 from an XJ into my MJ. The pads are basically gone and the drums aint in the best shape either so I wanna just fully redo them all. Any good reccomendations? https://www.quadratec.com/p/crown-automotive/rear-drum-brake-service-kit-cherokee-xj-comanche-mj-52001915K So far this is the first one I've found that actually specifys dana 44, but it says with 10" x 2.5" drums. The inside diamter of my drums are 9, the pads are 2.5 wide tho. I couldn't find anything stamped into the outside of the drum. Is it likely the right one or did they differ? Thanks

1988 Comanche BMW M57 Swap, Rear Coils

Don't count on it starting anytime soon, I'm 19 and between jobs rn so it'll be a bit before I have enough money for my parts lol -
1988 Comanche BMW M57 Swap, Rear Coils
Warren99 replied to colthrax's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Don't know how I never saw this, this is sick! I'll be om606 swapping mine once I have the funds saved up. -
Hate to see something like this. Cruiser's tips helped me fix so many things on my truck.

Well good thing I don’t ever plan on running anything bigger than 32s since that’s the biggest I can fit and still realistically get flex without cutting much of the fenders with my current lift. With that being said I’ll probably just run with the 30 until it breaks if it ever even does. Also update, they are actually 3.73 gears and luckily it’s a spool, not welded. I’m actually happier with 3.73 as I’ll still drive it on the road a lot, and right now with 3.55s or whatever it is I have my Speedo is like 3mph slower than my actual speed at highway speeds, so it may even out perfectly
-
6.5 hours one way unfortunately, but yea I still think it would be worth it. I'd run a spool/welded one for a while and eventually get some type of locker.
-
Ah ok cool, its a 6.5 hour drive that would be the main draw back. He says he thinks its welded or has a spool, hes taking the cover off today to check.
-
Alright thank you. What would you guys say would be a fair price for a XJ/MJ Dana 44? I just found one being sold with 4.11 gears and a Dana 30 for $400
-
Thinking forward, I think I'll try to look for a dana 44 front and rear. I don't care too much about rear disc brakes, so if I see a rear d44 on another XJ or MJ I'll get that, as for the front one I'm not too sure. I guess I could also look for a set from a rubicon TJ. Are those the same widths as the XJs/MJs? I'm aware the rear would be a 4 link but I have no problems cutting those off and welding on leaf perches. Also, would the 4 link brackets on a rubicon TJ's front D44 match up perfectly to my long arms(running a stock dana 30 right now), or would I have to somehow relocate them?

Returned the c clip axle to the junkyard, and found a bunch of other c clips, seems like a non c clip dana 35 is like 87-89 or something. Regardless, took the destroyed side and spider gears plus some 1/4 inch steel plates and welded the diff, so far it's held up.
