I still haven't decided yet but we will see. In other news, funnily enough I might be able to get the evap core out without disconnecting it by cutting the fire wall. I'm dealing with a completely stripped engine bay so it may not be that hard.

I have no idea how many times he's done it but he has definitely done it before. He's an aircraft mechanic and we do all of our maintenance and projects. We will probably attempt it with the r12 cans I have after swapping everything over.

No its just a black interior from an 87 Chief, I was just saying down the road if I found a r134a cherokee what would I need from it. And I would figure getting a pre 97 would be better for my situation.

Do I pretty much have to go to a shop to get the atmosphere evacuated all the way or is it possible to do on my own? My dad has an air vacuum pump and the 3 gauges with hoses.

Oh ok so it can theoretically sit with the hoses exposed as long as needed, and I'll be fine if I just replace all the O-rings while installing it, then get it properly evacuated before filling?

I still have a couple of bottles of r12 and a whole new set of components so the plan was to get the r12 running and when it eventually needs recharged, I'll weigh my options between buying more expensive r12 or the r13a swap. I will eventually do a full r134a swap I just wanna use what I have for now

Yea I missed the one in the bottom passenger side corner, I forgot to come back to it after the stud started spinning. I'm just gonna cut it but not tonight. And oh ok I thought you were saying the saran wrap to prevent the hoses from bleeding to atmosphere.

What’s the process for removing the hvac box from the dash, literally every vid on yt is of a 97+ XJ. I removed the nuts from the studs on the firewall, removed the blower motor, and removed this one bolt from the inside but the box won’t move. It feels like that one big seal is holding it on

Oh ok, but can you elaborate on the plastic wrap part, why is it on the evap core like that when the ends of the hose are wide open, what purpose does it serve?

I was just out there looking and noticed that. I think my best course of action is to take apart the hvac box until the accumulator is completely free minus the hoses going thru the firewall, then disconnect the hoses, pull it out of the cab, and immediately reconnect the hoses so the system is sealed again, then it can wait til I'm ready to put the a/c parts in my truck. Is the accumulator the only a/c component on the interior side of the firewall within the hvac box?

I currently have a black gauge cluster in my truck with all of the gauges working, but my truck originally came with a grey gauge set and dummy lights. Since my parts truck has a grey gauge set with all of the gauges, I'm gonna put that in my truck, but I want to have my original miles and a trip-odometer. It has a plastic ratchet on the .1 mile spinner so I can manually roll it forward, but I have to do that for 30k miles so I'm trying to take the whole odo out and just skip right to the correct number. I think I see the clip I need to remove that will then let me remove the whole odo but I'd rather make sure thats the right way before popping it off and everything exploding for no reason. Am I right about how to do this?

Yea I'm not the most well versed on them so I'm gonna do more research before I install it all, planning on replacing whatever I can while its easy. For all I know all of my current a/c parts r fine but I'm pretty sure before it was mine it sat with the condensor off for a while exposing the whole system to atmosphere, which I'm guessing ruined all of the orings. A while ago I did a pressure leak test and vacuum test and it seemed fine but when we tried charging it it suddenly burst from somewhere and leaked it all out. I did eventually find a hose with a big hole rubbed through and so I replaced it but haven't done anything since. I'm planning on just using everything from the donor truck, as well as a new accumulator and anything else thats hard to get to, as well as new orings everywhere. It might be a while before I actually do the swap tho, but I'm gonna pull all of the new a/c parts from the truck soon and cap every fitting off so it's not exposed to atmosphere in the meantime, unless I can somehow remove the entire a/c system without disconnecting it anywhere. If that's possible please somebody let me know.

This has been an issue for a WHILE I just never mentioned it but randomly instead of getting a notification on every topic I started I only get notifications for the inbox, and I think when I'm quoted or messaged. Is there a setting I need to change or something because I prefered when I got a notification every time someone commented on one of my threads.

I aint gonna use the Hvac box bc I can already see parts of it are rusty but I might take it apart just so I kinda know what to expect when I do it on my truck

One more question for the experts, are the front coils worth keeping since they are a "UP COUNTRY SUSPENSION GROUP" option from factory? Obviously I'm gonna keep the leafs.

The MJ in the pics is just a parts truck thats about to be sent to the scrap yard, but the interior is going in mine so I will replace the heater core and evaporator while I'm there.
