The spare tire thing works in my truck, but at some point the cable broke so end of it is just a frayed cable without the retainer thing for the rim. The parts truck I just tore apart had everything, so i unbolted the little mechanism. I could just bolt this one up into mine, but it is incredibly rusty, which brings me here: -How easy/is it possible to take apart the mechanism and swap cables? -Can I just get a new retainer thing to add to my trucks broken cable? If so, how does that work? I can't understand by just looking at the factory one, aside from I'm assuming it's just like a big crimp.

dang ok

This one isn't one of the cable driven speedos?
-
Nevermind I just looked it up
-
Did they only start in 97?
-
Interesting tho, I didn't even notice the orange turn signals, and if I did notice the marker lights on the fender I probably would have just assumed it was aftermarket

smh now I need to be on the lookout for one of those speedos for my cluster, I didn't know they existed in that same style too.

Recommendations for Sound Deadening/Insulation
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
-If I put much sound deadening on the floor, I'll be very considerate as far as to not trap water. -I think my water leaks will be fixed after I address the antenna grommet, fuse panel, and there is a almost ignorable amount of water dripping in from the back window, but I got an original 3 piece from the parts truck that I'm gonna install anyways. -Not sure if I'll keep that cloth pad or not in addition to the sound deadening. There's still a lot of pieces of rust stuck to the bottom of it from the rotted out parts truck, it may be pretty torn apart by the time I have all of those removed. -

Yea riding around with nothing on my floor you can feel the heat coming off the trans tunnel, which sometimes is nice when you put fast food bags in between the seats haha -
The NV3550 is the 5 speed in the later generations right?
-
I think by default the hose ends are for 134a but it has adapters to go onto 12. I know for sure he has used it for both in the past.

I never thought you could see a Mail carrier XJ with the right hand drive conversion and everything on a higher trim, let alone a limited. I mean it has the power seats, but also has power windows and locks. I can't imagine how hard it would be to find another switch panel for the windows should you break one or something. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1791235671258128/?hoisted=false&ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A14fdc85e-f318-45ac-b7e5-16f6a9e812d6

Recommendations for Sound Deadening/Insulation

If the cloth absorbs water and the sound deadening traps it, what do I do just leave it bare underneath the carpet? -
Ok I'll get a new accumulator too

Yea I likely will just skip the floor then, the donor MJ actually still had the like cloth insulation under the carpet. I'll be using that regardless, I just need to get all of the giant shards of rust off the bottom of it. -

On that note would I be fine with something like 8mm everywhere or do I want more for the floor, doors, and pillars? -

butyl? -
A/C is out of the parts truck. I figured I'd check if there actually was anything in the system because for the short time that I did have the engine running while it was still in, the compressor wouldn't even kick on, and sure enough there was zero pressure from the valves at the compressor, so I just disconnected the lines before the firewall and removed it.

Noted, I do live in the deep south so I'm not too terribly worried about rust and I should be fixing all of the water leaks I have right now, but if I do put any on the floor I'll be sure to avoid the uniframe caps. Still not sure if I will go with the dynamat or just get some cheap kilmat, although I'm kinda leaning towards that since being a senior in HS I'm still on somewhat of a budget, and I don't NEED the best of the best. -

Haha good one Thank you tho, that is a lot of useful advice. I don't think I'm gonna get very in depth with it, I just figured since I'm gonna have the carpet, dash, and window assemblies out, might as well put some sound deadening so it's a bit quieter. Regardless it's gonna be a much quieter ride because right now my truck has no carpet whatsoever -
Alright I'll do those and inspect everything else. I think the only thing I will replace a/c wise will be the evaporator, unless I need to get a brand new accumulator as well.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, which type of dynamat should I use? -
When I eventually swap the black interior into my truck I wanna put down some sound deadening/insulation on the floor, and since the doors will be gutted for the power windows I might as well put some sound deadening in them too. Any recommendations? Only real name that comes to mind for me is dynamat. I don't need the best of the best I can definitely settle for some cheap stuff.

Oh no I wasn't gonna attempt that lol, just figured if I could spend 15 min of cutting the firewall to get it all out without cracking the lines loose then why not. Also yea I probably will just do the r134a swap this time around then. So I'll need a new accumulator, evaporator and o-rings. That is all I'll need to work in combination with my r12 pump and condensor etc? Lastly, if I do that I'm obviously just gonna get a brand new evaporator since its deep in the dash along with the heater core, but would everything else be fine enough to just get from a junk yard?
