Wheel rotates hard after changing front brake pads
Hubbell replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had or still have a squeel to it's my dust shield, there is one spot on it that when cold touches the rotor and every once in a while I have to tweak it a little bit and it goes away for a while. Just a thought Chris Edit: my two cents not needed since I missed the entire second page were you found the problem. :dunce: -
87 Diamond In The Rough But Still A Diamond!!
Hubbell replied to Hubbell's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well finally got back to it today. Repainted the bumpers and wired up the kc's. Also worked on some gremlins in the wiring under the dash. I used bronze hammered paint this time and I really like the texture and looks of this one. Also for the few people that asked about the front bumper I ended up making a second one so here are the pics as promised. A little trimming up front. frame tie in bracket. And for the record there is a drawing running around this place that shows the location of the holes that need to be drilled on the drivers side, it is way off so if you do this make sure you double check the measurements I wish I had. it costs about 200$ in materials to make -
Rough Country front lift parts
Hubbell replied to JACKED88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check that drop pitman arm before you remove the old one. Rc sent me two of them and both were identical to what was on mine already, why I don't know but also checked it against two xj's just to make sure I wasn't crazy. So on my truck it doesn't have the drop arm I just stayed with the stock one -
Thanks Pete. I thought it was 112 or 113 because I'm close to one or the other on each side.

Can some one tell me the correct wheel base measurement for a short bed mj? I'm trying to square everything with the lift kit but need that number to finish it up. Thanks Chris

87 Diamond In The Rough But Still A Diamond!!
Hubbell replied to Hubbell's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I know a couple of members asked about the bumpers, so I will give the details. It is not bought but made. Took way more time than expected but worth it and the next one would go much faster. It is made from 5"x2"- 3/16" wall rectangle tube and 1/4 and 1/8" plate with some 2"x2" tube for the sides and support for the winch deck. The clevis mounts go through the tube and tie into the frame brackets. The frame brackets go back on the frame about 13". I will take some better pics top and bottom when I remove it for repainting. The rear bumper is 2"x6"- 3/16" tube using the existing brackets for a starting point. I am going to put a reciever in it this weekend. -

I just finished a rough country long arm kit on my 87 mj last weekend. The install is almost identical to an xj. You will have to cut the lower control arm brackets off and notch the cab support. The only other glitches I ran into was one of the factory holes for the new cross member had the provisions for a bolt but was untapped and the instructions didn't state that the old bracket that helped hold the old crossmember on will need to be unbolted and removed before installing the new crossmember. As far as the back went I am lucky to have the summit racing wherehouse here in town. So I picked up spring perches and u-bolts from them for around 30-35 bucks. They didn't carry spring plates though so I cut a set out of pick n pull for 12$. For shock mounts, I made my own out of some 2"x2" tube I had. The parking cables did not reach in the factory position? I just built a drop bracket for the whole assembly. My driveshaft worked out good with 8.25 no adjustments needed. I think overall the RC kit is well worth the money the truck still rides as good as before the only suggestion is don't cheap out on shocks I am sure this will be an upgrade for me in the not to distant future. Also found a huge decrease in power running 33" tires so an HO swap is now on the list. Hope my little bit of info help

The bolt on mine was pressed in like a wheel stud. I just hit it out with a hammer.

Need ideas for custom fabricated steel or aluminum parts
Hubbell replied to terrawombat's topic in The Pub
Are you looking to common production items or one off custom work? -
Torchmate is a company that sells plasma cutting tables and software. There was a company called iron scorpion that sold pre cut kits that a DIYer could weld and finish themselves. Real nice stuff and good prices. I don't know if they are still Carring them or not but worth looking at.

Just FYI the guys on trucks made and designed that bumper in there shop on a torchmate. Just happened to catch that episode and think about it every time I pass the torchmate dealership.

Sorry for making a headache for you. I know exactly what your going through. So to try and answer some of your questions? Will the Rc long arm fit an mj? I have not seen anyone on this club post a build thread on installing one but I have in person seen one. I have a 92 xj that I spent lots of time under measuring and remeasuring any differences between it and the mj, everything measures exactly the same. To fit the Rc kit you will have to trim the lower control arm mounts out of the way. When this is done the frame will look like the xj's frame. As far as the new crossmember goes it should mount up exactly like the xj's would. I know this is all talk but I did the same request a few weeks ago for anyone who has actually installed one on an mj.... And the response was the instructions with the kit was probably the best I would get. Not the answer I was hoping for. When I ordered the parts from Rc I pieced my kit together like you mentioned earlier. I will be installing this set-up next Saturday so I will be able to give you a heads up on any snags that come up. There is one more person on here that is installing or just finished the long arm upgrade kit I will try to find his info and maybe we can both ask him.

Installation questions on long arm lift?
Hubbell replied to Hubbell's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just an update rough country will sell you anything you need to make a system designed for your needs. I wish I had gotten the name of the first dude but those guys in tenn. Have some real strong accents. Jeffry is the person I spoke to the second time and was very helpful and gave me good deal. -
No it's all rough country parts. But as you stated earlier you had rolled this info around for a while. I also went back and forth between Rc and re parts. Just made my mind up to go with Rc because the long arm kit is fully adjustable to what ever lift/tire combo I decide to run. Since the re kit doesn't come with shocks that put the price in an unjustified position for me and they don't include adjustable control arms. So with the money I saved I can upgrade my steering from motion offroad and order a winch all for about the same cost as the re 5.5 kit with shocks. For me it was a way of stretching my dollars. I know everyone has an opinion. I have researched for at least two months everyday reading and searching for what I thought was the answer, and from what I have found is that it's six in one and a half dozen the other. I wish you luck because if you think about it as much as I have then you will need the migrain medicine.

It was valentines day OH CRAP! I spent the whole day in the garage with the mj. I guess I will have to make it up to her. That's gonna cost me!

Well today I mounted my 33" mtr's on my Moab rims, picked up the metal for the winch bumper and the rock sliders, ordered the 6.5" Rc long arm lift, and lastly picked up the Dana 30 non cad axle, and the Chrysler 8.25. I was real busy today but had a smile the whole time!!! It's going to be a busy week.

I would have to guess but I would say that 60-70% of Nevada is blm land and this is a big state. So lots of room to play.

Are you guys for real! You can get a ticket for offroading. I have never heard of this. I can be offroad in about a minute. That would be horrible to be limited on my wheelin trips. I could understand driving off trails but having to drive for hours would drive me nuts. I guess I'm happy in what part of the country I live in.
