  1. Them stealy boys got some decent info and they do seem to be open to modification it seems. I like the other site better tho they are into restoration keeping it and making it as it was. But I have pretty much learned all I needed to know. I like you wanted to put my Mil-Spec 6x6 truck to work such as you plan to, with living and learning I'm glad I steered you into a 5ton the 2.5ton tho fun as toy really isn't all that functional as a truck. Mike
  2. I will give that a try. Mike
  3. I removed the motor speed adjuster cleaned it all up and shot some grease onto it, and so far it working idles holding at 750rpm not sure if it was a cure or just a stall . . . tho the 750rpm idle is not smooth like it once was checked air filter nice and clean, tune up time again ? Mike
  4. I may have to check that out, Is it the same unit that controls the high idle on start up ? If so next drive i take i will see if i notice the high idle working or not . . . Mike
  5. My engine once heated up normally idles at 750rpm nice steady and smooth . . . Now the idle has dropped to 625-575rpm and it has a bit of a shimmy or shake to it . . . What would cause this to happen ? i been driving the truck everyday 3times a day for 9Mo this is the first i have seen it do this . . . Mike
  6. I have a way's to go before the engine gets dropped in ya know, I still need a transmission and rear axle . . . AX-15 2WD & AMC-20/4.10s . . . Mike
  7. The new Hitch seen in post trip 2 : By taking there check for $500 i was revoking my right to further action against him. Mike
  8. :hmm: I don't know, i'm just getting things bought . . . Y-pipe won't be used on my truck, its getting Duel exhaust as i will be removing the fuel tank its rotten on top anyhow and i'll be running a fuel tank/cell in the bed behind the cab . . . Why do i have to set it back 2" from the axle tube ? my truck is 2WD no diff to clear . . . Mike
  9. For super singles ya only need 3 Front rims and 5 Rear rims . . . 8 rims 8 tires . . . I'm skeptical as to the MF's ability to pull the SS tires myself, only seen the Cummins powered 5tons running the SS's, Tho the MF in the 2.5T dose but its got 6.79 gears not 6.44 gears . . . Sadly we raced another deuce against mine, My lil'Gasser out ran the MF deuce  Yes we were running the same tires and he was also bedless . . . Maybe they do better in the heavier truck with less gear ? didn't i say that it may have started life as a 1950's jeep or 60's Mack ? . . . anywho you have yourself a 1958 Kaiser Jeep 5ton 6x6 . . . Mike
  10. you simply stock 2 spares on board your 2.5 or 5 ton 6x6 one on a front rim and one on a rear rim, then become religious and pray ya don't need to buy/order one on the road $-) Run modern duels and be done with it failure rate is lower, stock ability is higher demand is steady supply is high price is low . . . an 11R24.5 44" is every were you wanna be ;) the 12R24.5 46" might take some digging but can be found easier n cheaper in stock . . . find out where the City n county boys go for tires and you'll find the 12R24.5's . . . 12.00R24's = 49" are are made to be dueled most big truck/HD equip. shop's stock 2-6 of them. 14.00R24's = 54" used by 10ton's the M123/M125 and road graters also a stocked tire for any big truck/equipment shop. 16.00R24's = 56" tho made to be ran single they will fit dueled on the M123/M125 10 ton's ;) Mike
  11. Loaded & Level: 2x 245/70R19.5's one on rim and 1x AMC-V8 . . . Do XJ & MJ windshields interchange mines chipped ? I'm sure they did, deuce v.s 5ton dig difference you need the heavier rated Super singles, Its very hard and $$$$ to find tire shops willing to deal with split rims and tube type tires . . . The U.S. Army travels in convoy, Joe shmoe is 280 miles from home and blows a 14.00/16.00R20 48" / 52" SS tire now if you have a spare on a rim you just jack up your 12,500lb 2.5ton deuce and change it out, Now if you have a 5ton well then you jack up your 20-22,000lb big nickle and change it out . . . If you don't have spares and have to buy one ya might get lucky and find a shop with 1 maybe 2 for $499 + $125-$175 mounting fee . . . changing it on the road ? :rotf: :rotfl2: Just give them the truck  Mike
  12. you sure its only a few 100LB's ? My MJ don't seem to be squatting that much and i have my AMC-V8 in the bed for my repower project . . . my truck sits about level I added my engine shots to my build thread  Mike
  13. I picked up my AMC-V8 last night . . . drove to the truck stop at 4am loaded it up in the bed hauled it home and drove to work and back with it in the bed, The little MJ handled the load very well, tho if i had to do it again i would rather have the V-8 under hood and the I-4 laying in the bed  Can't wait to get it rebuilt mated up an AX-15 5spd, swap out the D35 n 3.73s for an AMC-20 n 4.10s and dropped it all in the MJ  body work, fresh paint job, new decal, new interior, and a brand new set of 235/75R15C's and shazzam its done and ready to roll . . . Mike
  14. The little MJ handled the load very well, tho if i had to do it again i would rather have the V-8 under hood and the I-4 laying in the bed  Mike
  15. The engine is home :clapping: the 2.5er hauled its replacement home this morning  Mike
  16. Trip 1 & trip 2 videos both parts 1 and 2 kind of got me all excited even the post trip and pre trip of the first trip were a moral booster but once i got get to the pre/post trip videos for the second trip i start bumming again :wall: . . . This is why you don't drink and drive this is why you have insurance, cause when your Drunk self runs off the plows through a shredded straw bail which like a sand bag the size of school bus and slam into my 53' Stude M275er i get DEPRESSED and Very PISSED off :fs1: I got a check for damges done but it wasn't enough to do squat  Mike
  17. Cool stories guys, yours seem way more interesting then mine . . . I started out basically looking for $300-$500 beater one them drive it today crush it tomorrow deal's . . . It ended up being and MJ, Instead of getting crushed its getting fixed up and kept :hmm: Must be a Jeep Truck thing :hmm: an AMC-Jeep thing i might add  Mike
  18. They all kinds of treads, some new some partly woren all types of tread highway tread AT tread mudders . . . Mike
  19. The truck yard here sells 11/12R24.5 take offs for $150 on steal wheel and $250 on aluminum wheel. 11R = 44" 12R = 46" so you can have you stability of duels and your road speed of super singles all with out dealing with split rims. Mike
  20. Well of course them NDTs wear fast they are soft compound biasply tires. Most bias tires are hard rubber but not them GI tires they had to be cheap ya know. I bet a set of 11R24.5s in severe service drive properly maintained will last 75K miles, like some T831 firestones or G177 Goodyears would be the tire of choice. Mike
  21. I think my truck was a custom ordered unit, Cause i have the AMC-2.5, AX-4, and a D35 with 3.73's . . . I was told the MJ = 4spd / 3.55s 5spd /4.10s. It gets 14-16mpg's and has a good bit of pep 0-75mph after that it starts fading quickly but it spends most its life running 25-45mph . . . Tuesday night my AMC-290 V8 gets dropped off then i'll be running an AX-15 5spd / AMC-20 with 4.10's behind and i will be staying with the 235/75R15 tires they look nice  It'll get up and good and not burn a lot of gas, i'm told to expect 15-17mpg's but i figure the first few runs after the break period might only be in the 10-12mpg :rotf: nothing to aggressive 215-235hp / 240-260tq in the 1500-4500rpm range, i'm told by my fellow AMCer's its easy n cheap to do with the 290 and should live 200K miles . . . Honestly tho will i really gain few MPG's by going from an I-4 to a V-8 in an MJ ? :???: ? Mike
  22. Sorry for all the info i was just giving you some options that will bolt right in, and few that would also bolt in but need a few minor things done to work . . . I was just trying to help, but i see i caused a major :hijack: situation my apologies  Mike
  23. I'm already into the truck for $2,000 . . . fenders shipped are $575 a side plus 2 doors hard top windshield section weather stripping brakes ECT, It won't take long before it becomes a financial devastation . . . at this point it already is :fs1: For now its an out of sight out of mind deal, Shoulda waited for the an M52A1 thats the Mack turbo diesel powered 5ton 6x6 tractor . . . Mike
  24. I know they are nothing a like the AMC-2.5 is much better then the Cryco-2.5  They replaced the Cryco-2.5 in the Dakota's with the AMC-2.5 cause it made more power :D Yup Petes right: So was I it was better: AMC-2.5L = 102hp 84'-86' 1bbl Carb, 86' TBI 117hp & 135tq, 87'-90' TBI 121hp & 140tq, 91'+ MPI 130hp & 150tq, According my old jeep manuals under general data except the wrangler received a detuned version . . . why did they do that ? Mike
