Like I said, they aren't perfect, but they're in one piece. They could use some wet sanding and polishing. They aren't quite as shiny as the flash makes them look just FYI.

I need to clean them up. I'll try to take some pictures in the next day or two.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)

As I'm planning my interior, I'd like to have a center console. My brother has one of these in his YJ and its a really nice unit. Anybody had any experience trying to install something like this? I know it probably won't fit flush against the floor, but if its between my bucket seats, it may not matter. -
I have a spare pair. They aren't perfect, but if you're interested, I can take some pictures for you.

I got my new temperature and oil pressure sending units in today in preparation for the new gauge cluster. Should have been much easier than it was. Mine didn't look like this: Mine was probably rotated 30° ccw so that the oil filter prevented me from putting the new one on. So, I had to take the distributor off and back that plug off about 3/4 of a turn so I could put the new on one. Not difficult, but annoying. Oh and I'm not exactly sure how the old idiot light works, but mine surely didn't because it was unplugged. -
Now I know why I had such a hard time finding one to buy. Everyone here is hoarding them! '90 Short bed, 4.0, 2wd, manual, base model.

Wow. That looks great. Other than the wheels, that's almost exactly how I envision my truck to be when I'm done. You've given me something to work toward! Just out of curiosity, what size are your tires?

DJM/78: for just a DD, would you have rubbed your fenders had you not trimmed them? Also, what lift do you have so I can put it in perspective? Thanks.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)

I got the driver seat cleaned and put back together. It was a little more aggravating than I thought it would be. I'm looking forward to doing the other door panel. The other seat... not so much. -

I've gotten a little work done this weekend. I disassembled my driver side seat, scrubbed it, washed it, painted the frame and now I'm just waiting on the cushions to dry to reassemble. Pictures on that soon. I tackled the nasty door panels too. Here is the passenger driver door that I haven't done yet: and here is the passenger side disassembled: And here is the passenger side all done after cleaning and dying: I also got my new gauge cluster ready to go back in: -
I had a '91 YJ (my first Jeep). It looked great on the outside, but I'm not sure the previous owner ever changed the oil. I knew I had problems when oil started blowing out the dipstick.

Do you ever venture down to Albemarle? A guy in the parts store yesterday told me he saw a white Comanche with wood paneling. I can't imagine there are many if any other trucks around that would match that description.

I went to Pull a Part in Charlotte today. They finally got a Comanche, so I went in the snow and pulled a couple things. I got the tailgate (some dents, but its in decent shape), headliner, sunvisors, cab vents, tail lights, b-pillar interior lights, rear cab carpet panel thing and the silver dash over lay piece. I'll compare this tailgate to mine and keep the best; same for the tail lights. If anyone else wants to go look at it, I'll save you some trouble and give you some details: 1989 pioneer, long bed, 4wd, auto, red interior, bench seat. It doesn't have the header panel or front bumper. Fenders were in good shape from what I can remember. The bed was a little banged up, but I didn't see any rust (it has a drop in bedliner). It looks to have a factory rear sliding window, but I think the latch may be broken. Rear dana 35, not sure on the ratio. No one may care, but since they're rather hard to come by around here I thought I give everyone a heads up, just in case. I got a new oil pressure switch from Autozone and my new temp sensor will be in tomorrow, so hopefully I can complete my gauge cluster swap. -
That looks awesome. You should do it and take lots of pictures. Shoot, if you don't, I might.

Trans and Transfer Case 4x4 Swap Questions
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That assembly might be a good idea. Sounds like it might be a little much, but I might go that way for easy of installation. The clutch was supposedly replaced before I bought the vehicle, so hopefully its good (I'll still inspect it). The transfer case should work; I specifically asked for the same spline count and he assured me that they would work. If not, they're a big outfit and can get me whatever I need. All that helped, so thank you. -
I like the bumper too, but what have you done for the lights? I think in NC we have to have a light on the plate.

Trans and Transfer Case 4x4 Swap Questions
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's good to know. I'll check the pull a part next time I go. Unfortunately, stick shift cherokees are hard to come by at my yard. The last time I went 1 out of 8 or 9 cherokees was a manual and it was a Peugot unit (I was looking for transfer case linkage). -
Trans and Transfer Case 4x4 Swap Questions
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's the only shot I have of the transmission right now. If you look hard enough, you'll see that the line was cut right at the slave (maybe a half inch at most sticks out). Does the comanche use a short or long style speedo gear shaft? I have several long shafts left over from working on the TJ that I can look at. -
Trans and Transfer Case 4x4 Swap Questions

That would be awesome. Thanks! -
I'm in the process of converting my 2wd to 4wd and I have some parts questions. I have a '95 AX15 from a Cherokee with the external slave. The slave line was cut at the JY. Can the slave from the new tranny be used with the existing slave line in my vehicle now or will I need to buy a new slave and line? I've not dealt with these parts before, so I'm a little confused. Will I need to replace my speedometer cable? I was under the impression that the newer vehicles use an electronic set-up. Also, I assume that the cable won't be long enough now that it has to connect to the transfer case and not the transmission. If so what cable should I get and will I have any problems connecting it to my gauge cluster? I got the '95 transmission to get the external slave, but I'm just not sure what compatibility problems I'll have with my 1990 truck. I know these are probably noob questions, but I've never done a transmission swap before so I'd rather get the questions answered now before I've pulled everything out of the truck and I can't drive it anymore. Thanks.

Good luck finding one. I searched for a while in the same area you're looking. I couldn't find a 4x4, so I bought a 2wd and I'm doing the swap. I had to drive about 4 hours to get mine.
-
Haha, yeah I thought about that. Eventually I will probably want to do the Cherokee style or even the 97+ mirrors, but for now I'm just trying to repair all the little things and then tackle the big projects later (except for the holes in my floor).
-
I took mine off last night and I know which bolt you're talking about. I didn't come out in one piece; in fact it didn't all come out. I appreciate the effort and the offer, but I'll rather not drill two more holes in my door to accommodate the larger base. Thanks.
-
I just found mine on the back of the passenger door panel. No idea what a lot of the codes mean though.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)

Slight progress. I got the bumper and the flares painted. Here's a lousy picture: The flares weren't removed before the truck was repainted. In fact, I don't think anything was removed - flares, bumpers, antenna, cab vents, etc. I pulled the mismatched passenger mirror. The screws were rusted and I had to drill them out. I wasn't sure how the mirror mounted so I pulled the door panel to see if there were screws on the back side. There weren't any, but I did find the original build sheet attached to the back of the door panel. Its in remarkably good shape except for the two holes from the arm rest.
