1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Since I was working at the back of the truck, I decided to do some additional freshening. The driver light is as it was. The passenger light has been polished and cleared. Here are both after polishing and clearing: I also added an additional ground hoping that the light output would be a little brighter. I've been told my brake lights are a little hard to see in the day time. Now my bumper needs repainting. -

I got the tailgate back together. I just need some rivets for the rubber bumpers on the side. I repainted the hinges black, but I'm not sure if I like them or not. the green paint wasn't holding very well. -

Yes, the flats do require some cutting, but the cut outs more. The cut outs are actually designed for the Comanche, so they fit well. They weren't my first choice, but I wanted matching front and rear flares and since I have the '97 front end, this was my best option, so I'm happy. -

If you don't want to cut as much then the flats for sure. However, the rears are meant for an xj and they don't fit the body lines as well. It bothered me enough to get rid of them. -

The tailgate that came with my truck was not the original one. It was blue and had been spray bombed to match the faded black paint that the truck had when I bought it. When I applied the Upol Raptor, I scuffed the paint thinking that would be enough. Well, the black paint began to separate and pulled the liner with it in spots. The only way to fix it was to completely strip it. I've got it back in primer, but haven't had a chance to respray the liner yet. Luckily, I still have a bottle of the Raptor left over. I hope it's still good. -

Thanks Kyle! I wasn't 100% sure on the color when I picked it, but now I can't imagine painting it any other color. I love how it looks gold in some lights and green in others. It feels very "Jeep" to me and fits the personality of the truck. Good luck with the interior swap; it's a lot of work, but worth it. -
I've had 8 Wranglers six of which were TJs; I'm sure you'll find plenty of knowledgeable TJ owners here. My favorite was solar yellow but we always called the yellow LJs short buses. Post some pictures.

2wd=4wd 1987 MJ OBD2 swap

Don't feel bad about not being able to get the copperhead fab ring; it wasn't very good. I wish I had a slosh pan now because I have to fill up at a 1/4 tank. Otherwise, when I pull away from a stop, I get surging. -

The fenders are actually different in multiple ways, but the biggest reason for using them is that the contour of the header panel is different. So if you installed a '97 clip on pre '97 fenders, they wouldn't match up correctly. I tried to find a thread that would show this, but all the pictures were dead links. -

Aww thanks! I don't drive it a whole lot, mainly because it gets 13 mpg, but when I do I remember why I've put so much time and effort (and money) into it. -
How happy are you with the truck lights? I remember having to upgrade on mine because the factory lights were so bad. I am considering upgrading to the truck lights on my JK because the factory ones on those are pretty bad too.

A lot of people ask me if I use my truck as a truck. Why yes; yes I do. -

Time for another TJ to flip. I already have another set of tires for it and a top on order. -

Just saw this post. I've been on there ever since I bought the red car. It has been a wealth of info and some great vendors too. -

I haven't had any issues with the bushwackers. They have faded slightly, but no vibrating. The decals came from Spencer at http://jeepsticker.com/ (no S). He was great to deal with and I would send anyone to him. -

Today I celebrated my fifth year of Comanche ownership. Its made quite the transformation over the years, but I've enjoyed every stage of it. While I've done mostly everything I wanted to do to it, I still have several ideas in mind for the next five years. -

The hood actually has a pretty cool shape to it with the two inserts, so I'm going to leave it as is. You can see it a little better in this picture of my red one: I won't do a trunk spoiler, but I probably will do a front lip spoiler like this one: -

Small update from earlier. I got the rear quarter panel repaired (from the escaping wheel) and a little extra work done at the same time. All of the top surfaces of the vehicle had peeling, flaking paint/bondo with some surface rust. All of that was sanded down and primed. This is the before: I wish I could afford to have the whole car painted, but for now, I'm just taking care of a little bit at a time. It looks a little funny now, but at least I'm down to two colors now (primer and blue). Turns out not only was there a spoiler at some point on the car, but there was a scoop on the hood or something because my body guy found about 10 holes in the hood. Now to start saving for the rest of the body work and paint, but at least I don't have to worry about exposed metal and rust for the time being. The damaged wheel wasn't able to be repaired so I had to order a new one and I just got that a couple weeks ago. From the accident to everything being completely repaired took about five months. I'm currently in the process of swapping in a new steering column and a new B&M floor shifter. -
99 Cherokee 2 door, Canadian Pepper
Rymanrph replied to dancome433's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Love the color. I fixed up a white '99 two door a couple years ago. I think the two doors look pretty cool, but after daily driving it for a year, the novelty wore off. For practical purposes, I think a four door just makes more sense. However, I did just buy a two door JK so I guess my opinion really isn't valid lol. Good luck with the rest of it.- 31 replies

I had the "butterfly" seats first but they were way too tall for me. When I finally found the 2 door XJ buckets I couldn't pass them up even though the covers were in rough shape. Keep in mind that if you find the right seats, the tilt mechanism will swap over.

Just FYI, Pixel Decals does everything in batches, so its not made right when you order. I've been looking at some for my JK, so I hope it doesn't take more than a month. http://www.pixeldecals.com/shop/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=8 -

I got the Comanche back out on the trails today. PFCLeist invited me out to Uwharrie and we had an adventurous day. I got a video of Sean, but I'll let him decide if he wants to me to share it. Wish I had gotten some more and better pictures, but we had a fun time. -
WRZ's comanche Now the 96 od2 swap in progress

I had some air bubbles in mine when I first installed that I couldn't get out, but they came out on their own eventually.
