Alexia's 1987 To 1997 Comanche

Jealous. Can you build two and donate one? -
It would probably be pretty hard to fit it in the MJ, but I would really rather have a Mopar engine in it than a GM. Not that there's anything wrong with the GM motors; I just like to keep it in the family. That and I could put a sticker on the truck that says, "yeah, its got a Hemi." http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2012/10/new-mopar-items-announcement-at-sema

Man for those prices, I just need to drive my '99 two door up north leave it with a 4 sale sign on it. Actually, probably half of the interested calls I get about it are from up north. Nice ride.

You made the top 5 again this week. They used this pic:

Knowing you, you'll finish it after a week and a half and spend the rest of your time off enjoying it with your son.

I photoshopped this a while back. Excuse the gray. -
I remember seeing your truck on Jeep's Facebook page for their weekly top five. Great looking truck - looks like you might need some rocker guards and rear bed sliders...

I'll keep recommending Inca Gold until I see it on a Comanche. I also liked Moss Green that I had on my '98 TJ. -
Quick Disconnects Question

What did you use the keep the swap bar from dropping down though? -
The XJ cluster can be swapped with the oil pressure and temperature sending units. Just make sure you get a cluster from the right year Cherokee; I believe there are some differences between years. Mine is a '90 and I got one from a '90 XJ and it worked fine. I was even able to open it up and match the mileage. The tach should work fine without any additional wiring. The XJ hitch won't fit and it would probably be easier to just get a MJ specific hitch. There are some universal kits out there that will work, but just keep an eye out in the Classified section. Hitches come up rather frequently I'd say. That's where I got mine. Most advice I've heard about the AAL is to just avoid them. I'd look into finding some stock springs from another MJ. Hell Creek suspension makes lift springs for our trucks, but they may make or be able to make you some stock spec springs. You can get a CC discount through them as well. As far as posting pictures, there is an icon that looks like a Polaroid that when you hover over it says "image." Click on that and paste the picture url. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Quick Disconnects Question
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK, so I did the "fold-n-bungee" method this past weekend and it was the biggest pain in the world. I kept having to stop and reattach the cords. I even dropped one on the trail. If I can't find a better alternative, only four bolts holds the bar in place. I might just remove the whole thing and throw it in the bed while I wheel. -

That is so clean looking! Any plans for any side badging? I think having "Comanche" on the side of mine was a nice accent. Your front bumper is on my wish list -

Quadcab Comanche - Co
Rymanrph replied to johnny quest's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I emailed him just out of curiosity and here's an excerpt from his reply: "The unibody frame rails are actually the same width under the cab so that worked out great. The bed was shorted then the unibodies were grafted to the needed length. The floor was left out for welding. I made the rear door frame and cab cap by cutting the Comanche behind the front A pillar all the way across. The heighth and width were close enough to work with. I used the Comanche door fames and the lower corner of the Comanche doors to build the rear doors. Inside had the original floor section from the Comanche so that seat bolted right in for the back seat." -

I am not the best judge of value, but I would say $200-$250. Someone correct me if I'm way off.

If I'm in drive I can't really change gears. If I put the transmission in neutral, I can go into low or back in to 2wd with a slight roll, but if I'm sitting still in drive there is absolutely no way for me to get into low. Is that normal? -

Thanks! Its great on the street. A little top heavy feeling, but that's to be expected with ~6.5" of lift. It leans a little more in the corners, but the new springs and shocks seems to have eliminated some of the bounciness that I experienced before. My old setup wasn't bad, this is just better. I actually expected a more dramatic difference. -

I finally got the truck out to Uwharrie today. Everything went very well except the pressure line for my power steering sprang a leak. The suspension performed well and my transfer case even behaved, so all in all, a good day. Here are a couple shots: Here is a link to the rest of the pictures of the day including many of the couple wranglers that I rode with: -
That's a great name for a big dog.

My camera does an excellent job hiding the imperfections. If you look hard enough in the above picture, you can see the dent in the lower bedside behind the tire. I had the front end on jack stands (which raised the rear some too) and when I lowered it back down, one of my 31s had rolled up under the bed. The truck is far from perfect and in person it shows that its been used, but I try to take really good care of it. I'm not opposed to using it as an off road vehicle or truck, but I want to avoid dents and scratches if at all possible. -

Those seats look very comfortable! Are you going with the newer '97+ windshield molding or are you staying with the factory clips and trim? The paint on your truck kills me; it just looks fantastic. -
New Build For A New Comanche Owner
Rymanrph replied to jakepurkey's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Is your truck 2wd now or 4wd? The AX-15 in your '90 is a pretty good transmission. It has an internal slave cylinder (which you can convert to external if you want) that can be annoying at times, but I've driven several Jeep manual transmissions and its my favorite. Are you having any specific problems? A new transmission won't be inexpensive even from a junk yard. Unless you have major issues, a properly bled and functioning slave and good clutch should be the most it needs. If you're 2wd and want to convert to 4wd, I suggest getting an AX-15 (and matching NP231) from a '95+ XJ. They have the external slave setup. At the very least, you could get a bell housing from one of those years. That's what I did originally with my 2wd '90. Adam is right about the axle information. I looked for a Dana 44 for mine, but it was going to cost three times as much as the 8.25 that I have, but its no where near three times as good. Where are you located? Maybe a nearby member can help you track down the parts you need or even help you figure out what you need/want.
