--- COMANCHE OF THE MONTH - JULY 2012 ---
Rymanrph replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Congratulations :clapping: You have a nice collection. -
I can find new ones for $39, but I thought I'd give it a chance here. I need a 39 tooth gear for my 4.56 gears and 33s. Thanks.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)

Ok, so I'm going a little crazy with the pictures today, but that's because I can't do any real work. I wanted to see what the offset looked like on the new wheels, so I mounted two. Its still not lifted, but you can get the idea. From the back. Look at the gap between the tires and the leaf springs. Down the side: From the front. I think this looks hysterical. And then a couple posed pics just for fun: They fit pretty well right now, but an extra 3" surely couldn't hurt. Now I'm trying to justify how to spend more money on a front bumper and rocker guards... -

I can only do little things while I wait, plus with the temp over 100°F its not much fun in the garage or outside anyway. The Clayton long arm cross member has to be bolted on and then welded. I'm going to have the shop weld it on for me when they do the regear, so I thought I'd go ahead and bolt it up. Here it is assembled. Yes the the middle is a hammered metal and the outside it satin black. I had to the leave the outside bare for them to weld. I'll paint it over when I get it back from the shop. Here is a shot of it in place: I also decided to clean up my factory 2wd leafs and paint them so they look good assembled (the paint is still drying). -
I've considered submitting mine, but I think I'll wait until my lift is done. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... ce=message I don't think I've seen this truck on the forums before. Does any one recognize it?

I was going for the hella flush look lol. There was a pretty good rebate on the MTRs a couple weeks ago that I passed on. Its a much heavier tire and from what I've read, its street performance isn't very good. I've had KM2s before and other than being a little squirrely in heavy rain, I was pretty happy with them. -

My tires came in Wednesday, so I took them this morning to be mounted. I'm very happy with the look. Now I'm in a hold until I can get my axles regeared. The lift will start in two weeks, so It won't be long. -

What let you down about the KM2s? I had a set on my TJ a couple years back and I loved them. My other choice was to go for Duratracs again. They are quiet on the road, but have a weaker side wall and I will take this offroad some, so that had me a little concerned. Also I've heard many have wear problems with the bigger tires. My 31s have cupped some, but I keep them rotated and they've been good performers. The Duratrac 33 is actually over a 1/4" smaller than the KM2 33. -
I second the 30s on 3". I have 3" and 31s right now and I rub too much in the front. I'm sure you don't want to trim, so that's my vote or leave it as is.

Tires will be here tomorrow. I might be able to pick them up, but I won't be able to get them mounted probably until Friday, maybe. -
I know it has taken a while, but man that looks fantastic. Any idea when it will be done?

I just ordered a set of 4.5" RE coils from Serious Offroad for under $75 shipped. Wasn't sure how much you wanted to spend.

Well, I made my mind up. Just spoke with Rob at 4wd and I have 33" KM2s on the way! -

My tires already tuck in quite a bit and now that I have the Bushwackers, they look a little goofy. I could run spacers, but I'm still gaining almost an inch of backspacing with these new wheels compared to the Ravines with spacers. I'm starting to lean toward the 33s, but I can't make up my mind and its driving me crazy. I just know that this will be the only time I re-gear this truck, so I want to make sure I get it right the first time. My friend has some 33s that I can borrow to mock up too, so I thought about doing that this weekend. My only issue is that I need to tell the shop what gears to order and I've only got two weeks left. I don't want to put the truck in the shop and not have all the parts ready. -
Lights for my roll bar - need suggestions

I actually got it from another Comanche owner that had it listed on Craigs List. It was about a 350 mile journey round trip, but I think it was worth it. It was a lot of work to make it fit correctly, but I like how it turned out. -

The axles are getting re-geared the 2nd week of July. I'm trying to pick a tire size, so I can tell the shop what gears I want. -

A friend of mine let me borrow some spare wheels and tires (35s) to mock up on the MJ to see how they fit. Here is a shot with the current wheels with the rear SOA. The front is still on just the 3" coils. The SOA gave me 3" over the Hell Creek leafs. They are supposed to be 3" lift springs, but I don't have a factory measurement to compare to, so let's just say its about 6" of lift. I put the truck on a jack stand to try and match the added lift in the front. Here it is with the borrowed wheels and tires: Obviously, my factory control arms are bringing the tire back further than it needs to be. I also think I'm going to need more than 3" lift in the front, so I'm going to see if I can find some used 4.5" coils to go along with my ACOS. I just hung the trim rings to get an idea of how they'd look on the truck. The borrowed tires are actually for sale. Thoughts on the 35s or should I drop down to 33s? -
Since the rear bottom of the portion of the door has to be filled in anyway and its all custom any way, why not just make the rear edge of the back door the same as the front door? A lot of work went into this vehicle. I'd like to have the skills to attempt it.

1991 4.0L daily driver/weekend wheeler build

That 3-4 week wait time will seem like the longest 3-4 weeks of your life. I once had a vehicle painted and it took the shop 14 weeks and I about went insane. I'm looking forward to seeing the color on your truck. -
Not the " LAST OF THE MANCHES " 2-92 build project.

Does any one know what happened to DJM/78 or his truck? This used to be one of my favorite trucks on the forum. -

I got the other 3 trim rings painted, but I just really wanted to see what they'd look like on the truck. I still haven't ordered tires yet. I was going to mock up the axle and then borrow some tires to decide between 33s and 35s, but at this point, I think I'm just going to put on 35s and do what I need to to make them fit. I may change my mind and mock them up next week. We'll see. I think what's holding me back is I can get a set of 33" Duratracs for a decent price, but since Goodyear doesn't make a 35" Duratrac, I'm waiting on a good deal on some KM2s. -

Bushwacker must have changed the screws, because the nuts wouldn't fit on mine at all. They were too small.
