Thanks Mike! Do you still have my address?
-
The conversion isn't necessarily difficult, just time consuming. I'd be much more afraid of the rust. Good luck with the swap; its worth it.

Yeah, but I think all the seat belts were the same color. If I remember correctly, my '97 belts had agate plastics. I'm just trying to get it ready to sell and I can't honestly sell it without a functioning seat belt. Let me know how much you want for it. Thanks!

What tires are you mounting on them?

My last Comanche Build.

I've been to Wrightsville and Ocean Isle, but I don't remember it looking that nice. Good to see another NC MJ on here. -
If I built another MJ I would paint it Inca Gold so that's my vote.

You've had some nice trucks, especially that white J10. Where are you that the water is so clear looking? -
Man, I wish I could stumble upon a stroker motor for a good deal. Nice find.

I've been working on my '99 two door and the rear seat belt on the passenger side won't put out anymore. I need a new one. Mine is gray. If only I still had my '97 donor.... For all those that are doing the '97+ swap and still have one sitting around, please help me out. Thanks!

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I don't dislike the Ravines. I happen to like them a lot, but I want to take advantage of the lifetime tire balance and rotation that I paid for when I bought the wheels at Discount Tire. That means no spacers. They won't touch the vehicle if I have them installed. -
Fantastic! A two post lift is definitely on my list of wants for my next house.

Oh, you're so funny Mike! Any preference on wheels? -

I know but I need all the turning radius I can get. I have too make to many u-turns uptown when I drive it to work. Plus I like the look of the smaller back spacing. -

My brother just got those wheels for his JK. They are nice but at over $200 a wheel they are way out of my price range. -
1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)

OK guys, I'm trying to make some decisions and I think I've narrowed it down. My tires rub on my control arms right now with the Ravines, but I had a set of black steel wheels in a 15x8 with a 4" backspacing and they rubbed on the bumper end caps. I've decided against control arms because I know they will be replaced with long arms down the road, so I think I will add a 3/4" spring spacer (I already have a decent amount of rake anyway) and then I'll sell the Ravines and another set of wheels to purchase a set of aluminium wheels with better backspacing. These are three I'm looking at currently: AR23 AR61 AR62 I like these because they are machined, but have a clear coat so I wouldn't have to polish them all the time. I would do spacers with the Ravines, but then Discount Tire wouldn't rotate and balance my tires for free anymore. I figure I should be able to get enough money between the two sets of rims I have to pay for the new ones and the spacers. If they extra 3/4" doesn't fix it, then I'll just have to trim the bumper end caps a bit on the inside. So what wheels do you think would look good on my truck? Or do you have any other suggestions to solve my rubbing problem? -
Bushwackers and Wheel Size
Rymanrph replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, here is another idea for consideration: what about a 15x10 wheel? I have a brand new ProComp wheel that I've never used in my attic, so I could get three more to match, but I guess at that point I would really need to step up to a 12.50 tire for a 10" wide wheel. I'm going to sell my XJ, but I didn't really want to drop $3k upgrading to long arms and 33s right now. -

My only issue with spacer is my tire company. I would trust a high quality hub-centric spacer, but Discount Tire does not. I get free lifetime balance and rotations there, but they won't even touch the vehicle if it has spacers on it. I can rotate my own tires, but I like to have them re-balanced when I have them rotated. Besides, I'd have less out of pocket by selling the Ravines and buying new wheels compared to buying spacers (maybe. It would be close). -
Bushwackers and Wheel Size

My long term goal is long arms and 33x12.50s, so maybe I'll just deal with it until then, or until I sell my Cherokee and can justify the upgrade expense. Long arms, 33s, new tires, new wheels, bushwackers, re-gear, track bar, springs..... control arms are starting to sound really good. -

Do you have the same opinion about the flat style flares? Because that would be a slightly cheaper option and they don't stick out as far do they? -
I need some opinions guys. I've been driving the truck a lot more in an urban environment recently. I have another vehicle for sale right now and I'm working on finishing my '99 XJ to sell as well. So I could end up in the near future having only the Comanche to drive and I want to make it a little more livable. When I swapped from the black steel wheels to the Ravines I traded rubbing on the flares to rubbing on the control arms. I know I could easily swap the control arms out, but if I'm going to spend money on the truck, I want to see it. Besides I liked the wider look of the old steel wheels better. The idea would be to sell the current wheels and another set in the garage and buy a lower offset set of aluminum wheels and Bushwacker flares. I know some don't like the Bushwackers for various reasons and they are expensive, but I think they look pretty good. My question is, what offset wheel should I be looking at for a 15x8 wheel on 31x10.5 tires? My old steel wheels had 4" of offset I think. I don't really like the tucked look that the stock wheels (and my current wheels) create, but I don't want to buy new flares and wheels and then still rub. Any info or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The first car that I ever bought was an '01 PT Cruiser. With 50k miles on it, I sold it to my dad who has taken it over 120k miles. I actually drove it today to go pick up some 35" tires for my brother's JK (only 3 tires). It was and still is a great car. Down on power, but for the money it has a lot of nice features and it has a fantastic interior especially in Limited trim. My dad experienced some transmission issues with it after I sold it to him, but that was about 70k miles ago. If I ever get rich and can have an infinite list of project cars, I'd like to have a GT with the 5 speed manual. Since there are literally over a million of them out there, be picky and get a good one.

Man I like those hyper black Ravines better than mine. Are you going to run spacers? -
Ouch. Now I feel bad for complaining about 14 mpg in city traffic.

thanks for the heads up. The Rock Hill one doesnt get any either  You saved me a trip up there though :wrench: You can find good stuff there occasionally, but you have to be on top of it and get there quickly.

My house has been on the market for a while, but I still want to have a plan for when it does sell. Realistically, when I buy again, I'd like for the house to already have a large two-car garage, but if I can't find anything I like in my budget, I'd consider buying a less expensive house and building my own garage to spec. What is a realistic price for an over-sized two car garage? I probably wouldn't put heating or AC in it, but I'd finish the interior and insulate it. I'd want plenty of electrical outlets and tall enough to put a lift in at some point. Vinyl siding most likely would be the outside. I'm thinking somewhere in the $30,000 range; is that reasonable? Again, I have no definite plans, but just trying to get an idea.
