ShowTime Comanche Build.

So after seeing the JCR Comanche i really wanted the rear four link for mine that and the extra hp and torq it would eliminate axle wrap. Which was going to be a b*@ch to keep under control. I searched and contracted IronMan4x4fab and asked really nicely about buying a set before they came available. They told me they would get back with me and finally did, ordered a set from them and then talk with them some more for a rough idea how they installed the original set. all that said and done it was time to get to work installing them. Just knowing how i am and really wanting to be able to beat on the truck when done it was time to and some strength to the mounting locations also.- 76 replies

ShowTime Comanche Build.

Know that the body work was done fitment of the engine was next, yest the main body was painted way before all the fab work is done, that is due to my last build i was not tearing it all the way back apart just for paint. I can be careful when i work and protect the paint. So the story goes like this, an aluminum 5.3 LS would be a great engine for the Comanche. Then an unexpected event happened. An aluminum 6.0 LS2 showed up for a great price(free) had a wiped out cam but the rest was good. This also meant that my original headers where to small for the bigger displacement. so some 1 3/4 block-hugger headers showed up and needed fitting to the Comanche. The left header was the exact same as the 1 1/2 headers, while the right showed to be the exact same by the drawings. not the case. lots of cutting and boxing was needed to allow the header to fit, just more time. In the pictures you can see that the factory uni-body has what i call a bridge in the middle for strength. So with that in mind i went from bottom to middle and middle to top for the added strength to the rail and uni-body. That is the first notch of two that needed to be made but i will have to get into that one next time.- 76 replies

ShowTime Comanche Build.
Quarterpastgone replied to Quarterpastgone's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Now the Comanche was painted on Thursday night. The DIY bead locks where suppose to be at the shop a week earlier so i could have the wheel ready for paint. They showed up Friday. So i spent all Friday night welding bead locks on and Saturday during the day grinding. I hate flat black wheels, so i though body color with black lock rings would new much better looking. Took about an hour per wheel to weld the locks on doing 2 inch welds and jumping around to prevent war-page to the best of my ability. After 7 days of work, thanksgiving dinner Thursday and my father adding a strip to his truck the Comanche is back inside and ready for more love. Will have to wait weeks goes buy while i wait for the powder coat shop to get my bead locks back to me. Then for it was time for rubber, friend at work pulled BFG KM2's off is Dakota for his build to run 40's so i got 33x12.5x15 for a seal. The hood will be close, will probably have to make a new hood prop arm. Time for some sleep will keep working on getting this thing up to date. spent most of tonight making a s bend for the exhaust.- 76 replies

So we left off with the plastic dip cleaned off and seeing how bad the paint and body really was. Minus the roof and some of the bed it was ok so it was time to start body work. First was cover the intake hole in the hood. If memory serves it is a camaro 4.5 hood steel hood scoop. Then it was on to keeping the tires covered. and making sure all the dents above the finders where straight. I have to give credit where credit is do my Uncle did all the body work in a week on his vacation and painted it for me. I got called to work when i was suppose to be off. I did work every night from 7 to 1 or 2 to get things done. One of which was boxing the tail holes int the back. Rear flare fitment check. Yes it needed some filler on the tail light holes and dents from years of being a truck. Know i will say their is about 130 hrs of prep time in the body and paint. Sorry forgot to get pictures of the scoop install. Know their was a pause to just leave the Comanche color grey (sealer primer), but i really wanted it to be blue..Yes their is a hole for oval lights, i wanted something different and really like a particular oval led light. That and a nice stock replacement was to damn expensive and no one makes new ones that i could find.- 76 replies

Quarterpastgone replied to Korsch_RS's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
So I am in the middle of swapping a ls in my Comanche and have been following your thread, how far does the intake stick out of the hood when closed? Looks cool just wondering how tall a scoop I may need.- 117 replies

My '89 Comanche - Getting an LS2

I read you used painless wiring harness for your truck, do you have part numbers for it. I am about to have to rewrite my whole truck while doing 5.3 swap.- 117 replies

I have looked very long and hard for this and have not found anyone cover it in detail. 4.0 to 5.3. with in 6 inches of each other in overall height. I like novak's engine mounts, but I can not find out what angle the drive line is at with their mounts. I am just trying to get some numbers together before I dive head first into this thing. Any one that is using them I would like some first have feed back on them for install and vibration once you got to driving it around. Thanks
