  1. The part time 4 wheel drive light in my 90 Comanche seems to be tied into my a/c, vent, heat and defrost switch. In 2 wheel drive, when I turn the switch to the off position the part time 4 wheel drive light comes on. If I place the switch in any other position the light goes off. The light does come on when I shift into 4 wheel drive. I believe that the heat and defrost run off engine vacuum - could I have a common vacuum line going to both the switch and the light? How do I tell? Any ideas? Thanks
  2. This is a ground operated system. The door switches control the ground feed to the lights. When the door is shut the switch in the door frame pushes in and breaks the ground connection and the pillar lights shut off. When the door is opened the switch pops out closing the ground and the lights come on. The other wire goes controls the ground from the ignition switch to the pillar lights. When the key is turned to on the ground circuit is connected and the pillar lights come on. Pull a door switch. There should be a ground wire on both terminals of the switch, connect that wire coming out of the switch to the pillar light ground wire. Now connect the red harness wire to the red pillar light wire, open the door and the pillar light should come on if it does not the door switch is bad. If the light now stays on when the door is closed, you connected the wrong wire from the door switch to the pillar light If you also want the pillar light to come on when you turn the key on, you need to find the ground wire coming from the key on position of the ignition switch and connect it to the other pillar light ground wire. Hope this helps.
  3. The right side does not look too bad and could be pounded out without too much trouble. The Left side is a little worse. I would try to pound it out also, but welding in a patch from your 86 would be pretty easy if you have a Mig welder. Where are you located?
  4. In PA if the car can with an emissions system the emissions system must be on the car. In many areas of the state there is no emissions test so the emissions system does not need to be functional - just installed. So if you don't need an emissions test you will still need to have a cat. installed. I live in a part of the state where emissions testing is not required. On my 90 Comanche, I removed my cat.and removed all the ceramic from the inside then reinstalled the cat. The engine runs fine and it passes inspection.
  5. Found it - thanks
  6. I just checked my truck. There is a rubber hose connected to the bottom of the blower fan housing going into the firewall. Is this the drain hose? If so should it be connected to the blower housing? Thanks
  7. I charged the AC on my 1990 Comanche. Finally enjoying good cooling and noticed that my passenger side carpet is soaked. I pulled the seat and carpet and discovered water coming in passenger side next to the left mounting bolt on heater box. I'm pretty sure that the heater/ evaporator drain is plugged. The problem is that I can not find the drain hole anywhere on the firewall. Where is it? Thanks.
  8. While your at the fuse box check the 10 AMP fuse which controls the turn signals and backup lights.
  9. Do your turn signals work if the tranny is not in reverse? If so go to your natural safety switch connector. It's in the engine bay on the passenger side next to the firewall between the engine and coolant bottle. Find the black wire with a yellow trace. This wire should be hot (12V) all the time. If it's not run a probe from battery + terminal to the black wire with yellow trace. Now test.
  10. Check the ballast resistor located on the inner fender drivers side. You can bypass it to see if that solves your problem.
  11. You can remove the trans when its in gear. Once the trans is out, it will be easier to get it in neutral. While the trans is out check your flywheel - if it's rough - remove it and have it resurfaced. Then replace the clutch, pressure plate, and slave cylinder and reinstall (make sure the trans is in neutral).
