  1. How'd I determine it's bent? It's not straight. There won't be a vacuum leak if I swapped it to non-disco, right?
  2. Well, they only travel a couple inches normally... But, the shocks actually allow the suspension to travel quite a lot farther. Both upwards and down. K. I was worried that the angle would decrease the amount of vertical shock stroke, limiting my axle droop and hurting my mounts. I'll look into it when it warms up a bit.
  3. Is anyone powdercoating their bumpers? And would anyone recommend it? I think it'd be $100ish to get a bumper powdercoated, or $10 in Walmart paint.

  5. I would be out cruising the town right now, but... DMV was never notified that the original loan on the truck (in 1986) was paid off, so I need to get a signature from the bank in which the loan was taken from, saying that they are no longer a co-owner of the vehicle, so I can register it. $#!&ty luck, but I drove it today anyways. This is how it sits (needs a bumper badly): The Manche's back up a bit, but it's still absolutely dwarfed by my dad and brother's Super Duties.
  6. Yeah, I cheaped out on shocks. Got em back when I wasn't planning on making the truck nice. They'll blow quick the way I drive.
  7. I don't rememeber if it's the Skyjacker Nitros or Hydros. I think it's the Hydros. Maybe they need to be worked in?

  10. Hi guys, I had a guy asking about this kit (and chewed me on the $$$) and the reason our kit is more $$$ is due to the fact we include the new parking brake cables and conversion yoke with our kit. As in a slip-yoke eliminator?
  11. that's the plastic bushings. A bit of silicone spray on those goes a long way. Mine started squeaking wen it got cold. I think that could be the through-out bearing too. :agree:
  12. Ahh, the truck runs and moves. It's a good thing, even with the problems it still has. When I parked tonight, it happened to be with one tire on a large mound of dirt :roll: , and the suspension did its articulation job beautifully. However, when I was driving the truck, the rear end (with just longer shackles) was not nearly as smooth as the front (with new LCAs, coils and such). My ideas to soften the rear end were linking it, getting custom leaf packs made, or swap to some Chevy springs. Linking and custom leaf packs are out of the budget for this year, and the Chevy springs are only 5"ish longer and I'm not sure how they perform on MJ width frame rails. Does anyone have a suggestion on softening up the rear for smoother driving?
  13. Would you be able to get a couple pics of up into the crossmember from the front? I can't tell how the links mount to the member, and TnT doesn't have any pics of it. And does it have heims, or work off the threaded adjustments to rotate?

  15. The basics are the same though. Think of your t-case like an axle, and your driveshafts like axleshafts. A full-time case is like an open-diff axle. Both driveshafts will spin when they have traction, but when one shaft loses traction, the other shaft stops spinning. A part-time case in 4wd is like a locked axle. The driveshafts will spin at a set rate, and when one end loses traction, the other end will still spin. If you're into off-roading, I would imagine you'd want a part-time case, but I was thinking that the 242 has a part time option (center differential locker). Is that right?

  22. I drove that mofo from one garage to another tonight, and stained my seat with splooge. Anywho, tomorrow's plans: deal with short track bar issue modify axle side LCA mount box shackles new muffler The fixed arms I bought hit the axle at 4.75" of lift, so I'm gonna cut away some metal till I can go long arm when it warms up in the spring, and running the truck I realized the muffler is completely blown out, so I'll pick up a MagnaFlow in the morning. Umm... My front axle housing is bent... The PO somehow bent the housing while running the truck stock... I need a replacement Dana 30 with 4.10:1 gears. Are there any suggestions on where to get one? I was thinking a 4 cylinder TJ, XJ, or MJ would be the vehicle to look at. I'd like to keep the vacuum disco and what not, so as to not modify much. And I've got some sort of vacuum leak that is lowering my idle, keeping my 4wd light on, and making my heater blow at a low speed. Grr.
