  1. Is there a write up anywhere for adding aux to the factory head unit? At this point I will settle for that.
  2. Oh side note, I even pulled the head unit out of my tj, tried it, and it doesn't work.
  3. I'm really confused. I tested the head unit with the battery trick. It works. My wiring is all correct (I even redid it all just to be safe), the wires are getting power, but it's still not working when I hook it up and try to turn it on.
  4. Dome lights work. Cigarette lighter works. Dash lights work. All fuses are good. I'm going to triple check my wiring harness in the morning. I'm thinking I had to make a mistake somewhere or the head unit is just garbage.
  5. OK so since getting my truck back on the road, I figured its time to get some music going in the cab. My stock radio doesn't work (no antenna currently). I bought a cheap dual headunit from Walmart, got my wiring connector thing, and a mounting kit. I hook everything up, and.. Nothing. Doesn't even turn on. I rechecked all my connections, and they all look good. However there are two extra wires from the connector that aren't in use. One is for dash lights and the other for dimmer. Are these supposed to be connected to something I'm missing? Man I hate wiring.
  6. New battery seemed to do the trick. Its now reading 12.6 while the truck is off and 14.8 while running. Its still idling weird, but I guess that will be my next mission. Thanks for the replies everyone!
  7. New alternator didn't do the trick. Can't afford a new battery right now, so this will be on hold for a little while.
  8. Picked up a new alternator (one not from autozone) I will be swapping that in when I get some time. fingers crossed
  9. excitement got the best of me. I went out and swapped the batteries just now. Jumped it off, let it charge for about 10 minutes, took the cables off, and it continued to run for a good 15 minutes. When it finally died the battery read 11.60. Which is an improvement, because when I took off the jumper cables, it read 10.3. So I'm still not sure what the culprit is. I would think if it were the alternator, it wouldn't have charge at all on its own, correct?
  10. Picked up a new multimeter. Two of the 3 batteries read 0.0, and the third, read 8.4. So tomorrow I will be swapping in the battery that read 8.4, jump it off again, see if the alternator will charge it up. If not, then I will take the alternator back out and get it tested.
  11. Nope. I'm always careful with anything electrical.
  12. Is that true even if the battery was drained to the point where it won't hold a charge?
  13. So I'm trying to find out why my truck keeps dying. I jumped it off, let the vehicles run for several minutes, took the jumper cables off, and it runs for about a minute, then dies. I also noticed its idling weird. it will idle high, then get really low, then sound like someone is tapping the gas pedal. It will die soon after that. The alternator is brand new, I tried 3 different batteries (can't find my multimeter at the moment to make sure they are good, they are all about 5 years old). So I think I have it narrowed down to the battery, or a connection to the alternator. In the morning I am going to find my multimeter, and recheck the alternator connections. Am I missing something else that it could be? Would a bad battery make it idle like that?
  14. I figured it was time to start a build thread for my new truck. It's an 88 Pioneer 4.0L with the 5 speed tranny. 2wd. Someone along the line converted it into this "zombie" themed truck. its cool, but not really my style. I posted a wanted add on craigslist and the PO sent me these pictures asking $1500 As you can see, the PO attacked it with Plastidip  I talked him down to $1250, and ended up getting it for $1150 plus a new alternator. I changed the alternator, checked fluids, got title and tag, drove it for a couple of days, and.. Had to get it towed home. $85 down the drain. While driving through some mountain roads, it died on me. Possible bad fuel pump/filter. I also noticed the ground cable from the battery was not connected, so maybe that had something to do with it. While waiting for parts to come in, I installed a new shift knob (I'm still a child at heart) And that brings us to today. Today I removed that annoying buzzer thing, took the doors off, and swapped out the battery for the better one out of my TJ. Tomorrow should result in the fuel filter being replaced, and a test drive up the road to make sure my issue is solved with it. Finally, here are the plans for it. In order of priority. Fix the dying issue Replace some leaky gaskets Replace front passenger side fender Sand off the plastidip PAINT! Brighter headlights Fix parking brake Fix issue with gauges not working Fix gas gauge reading wrong Get one of those nifty "comanche club" stickers This truck is mostly going to be a DD. I have my TJ for offroading, and I would feel like a monster beating this truck up. This will be a pretty slow build. I have no garage or shop, so I'm at the mercy of mother nature.
  15. Not everyones taste, but..
  16. Is there a write up on how the parking brake goes together? I tried searching but didn't really find anything. Mine is stuck pressed down. I did some digging around in the truck and found this spring, only problem is I can't figure out where it is supposed to go.
  17. I'm still drooling over the Mighty FC concept that was released a few years ago. I've always loved FC-170s and 150s. I know it will never make it to production, but a guy can dream, right? Imagine cruising down to the beach for a fishing trip in that thing.
  18. thanks for the replies. It looks like it will just make its way to the scrap yard pretty soon.
  19. So I have a 95 dodge dakota sitting in my driveway, with a seized motor. I read somewhere that some dakota parts are interchangeable with MJs. Specifically talking about the fuel tank/sending unit. Can anyone confirm this? If not, is anything else on the dakota worth saving before I haul it to a scrap yard? My MJ is in need of a few minor things (antenna, parking break cable). Anyone know if any of those will work? I'm not sure exactly what year dakota parts are supposed to be interchangeable, as everything I have read just says "dakota". I would assume it would only be first gen dakotas though, in which case, I'm out of luck.
  20. It's an 88 4.0. 180xxx miles. Not really sure where to begin. I've never had a problem like this before.
  21. So the truck that I've had for exactly one week today broke down. Driving up some mountain roads, I came over the top, shifted into 3rd, and it died. I started it back up and it was idling rough, then dying. Wouldn't make it more than 100 yards before dying again while driving. Had to get it towed home. Where is the best place to start? Fuel pump? Filter? I'm clueless.
  22. I just bought a new MJ that I'm pretty excited about. I drove it home the other night, went to park it in my driveway, and noticed the parking brake is stuck pressed down, won't come back up, and the cable is not attached to it. I havent had much time to mess with it. Anyone know what could be the issue? This has to be fixed soon, because its a standard, and almost everywhere I park is on a hill. For the time being I'm leaving it in gear, and chocking the wheels.
  23. I did end up purchasing it. Got it for $1100, plus the price of a new alternator. I crawled under it and there is almost no rust. the body work is because someone along the line cut the fenders for bigger tires. The truck at one point was this zombie themed one. that story is believable because it still has that "roll hazard" sticker on the rear bumper, and that color is showing where plastidip is peeling off.
  24. So, chances are very likely that I will be buying this truck tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyone on here has seen this truck before, anyone know any of the history on it? Seller says it's an 88, 4.0, 5 speed. Which is everything i'm looking for, minus 4x4. So I'm pretty excited about it. If I do end up driving it home, I'll post more pictures on friday.
  25. Fell on hard times and ended up having to sell my 86 comanche project. Now things are looking up, and i have the means to buy another one. The only condition being this one must run and drive, as we need a reliable vehicle to get us to work lol. I'm looking to spend around $1000-1300. Possibly a little more for a great truck. Looking for one around north georgia, but I will travel to the surrounding states for a good deal. I've been checking craigslist and ebay with no real luck. Thats why I'm hoping this forum can help out, maybe point me in the right direction. All I need is a decent truck that will get the wife and I back and forth to work and school, haul a few loads of mulch, and maybe pull a small trailer with a lawn mower. 4x4 is a must. I can't settle for 2wd due to where I live. I'd love a 4.0 with a stick, but I can settle for 2.5l with an auto. If anyone has one for sale, knows someone who does, or can just point me in the right direction, that would be great. Thank you.
