  1. Keep in mind I'm talking about the manifold bolts for the intake and exhaust. With the engine hot and idling I could see the water bubbling out around the manifold stud. On my head the most forward and aft holes for the manifolds were threaded studs. The good news, that head is easy to R & R. 2 - 3 hours if you take your time.
  2. I had the same problem on my 2.5 head, there should be no wet exhaust/intake studs on the 2.5L. On my head the forward most hole was through the water jacket and it leaked. I tried tape, I tried sealant and I tried epoxy, nothing worked. I called the shop and they agreed the hole should be blind, they gave me a new head, problem solved. I'm not sure why you can't seal the stud coming out of the head, I tried everything to no avail. It must be a combination of heat and vibration of the exhaust port and header the makes it leak.
  3. My son wants to buy a newer model Cherokee 97-2001. Are there any years to avoid in this span? In the reading I have done it seems there was a problem with the 0331 heads on the 2000 - 2001? Not sure what the failure rate was... I also noticed that the 2001 I looked at had (3) catalytic converters! And I believe there were (4) o2 sensors, the engine must run real clean. There are several on Craigslist with low mileage, just have to find the right price.
  4. I measured the length, fully extended the strut is 20", compressed it's 12.5". My only complaint is the hood is almost vertical, it is quite a reach to close it.
  5. I used the Redline kit on my hood. It was way high priced but a fun project. http://www.redlinetuning.com/images/Jeep_Cherokee_8601/IMG_6912.gif
  6. Have you tried to clean the key? GM roadside assistance would always tell my daughter to clean the key when the security light was blinking. The car was towed back to the dealer four times, three times it got a new fuel pump. We finally traded it on a Toyota and have not had a problem since...
  7. From what I read DOT3 & DOT4 can be mixed, no problem. They also say that all brake fluid is synthetic, some partial and some fully synthetic. The one that is unique is DOT5 which is a silicone base fluid, can't be mixed.
  8. I can't find my receipt right now but I know I got them at NAPA. I pulled my old seals out and read the p/n that was on them, they cross referenced from a catalog to the NAPA p/n. My u-joints were #378's.
  9. My experience with Duralast parts is not good. Every Duralast part I have put in has failed at least once and some twice. Lifetime guarantee don't worry, right. Changing failed parts is a pain in the A$$.
  10. My Dana 44 has 2-1/2" x 10" shoes. I noticed a difference when I changed from the D35, especially how the E brake works!
  11. I would agree buy it! It is essentially a Cherokee with a box on the back. Curious, how much is diesel fuel in France? Is it cheaper than gasoline? We need to see some pictures of this rig...
  12. I just threw in $10 via paypal. I don't need any cards right now, just contributing to the cause... Rick
  13. My question is "what will it do to the ride quality" using the 3/2 setup? I'm an old guy and I like smooth... My truck right now has the 3/1 setup and it rides real nice. The down side to that is you put 400 lbs in the back and the truck will drop 4". These short wheelbase trucks can get real choppy in the ride with stiff springs.
  14. Here is the CPS connection for my 88 2.5.
  15. That 2.5 is a rebuild from Autozone, it came from an engine rebuilder down in Missouri called Proformance. Lucky for me it was one of Autozone's better vendors. I think I paid $1275 for the complete engine including new tin and covers. The motor has 42k on it now.

    Side Airbags?

Did late model XJ's ever offer side airbags?
  17. I just went out and looked closer at the one in the photo. Molded in the back of sensor body "Siemens, made in France. It came in a Standard Motor Products box labeled Made in USA? Who knows...
  18. It was a nice day so went out and started dinking around with the old Comanche, pulled the plugs, wow! They were pretty clean but the gaps was burned to ~ .050!! Two of them in the photo show the intake side and two show the exhaust side.
  19. I found mine at Rock Auto ~$35, Standard Motor Products #PC307, made in the USA. It looks and feels like a quality part. Nice over-molded sensor and wire cover. I can't see the inner workings of the actual Hall Effect Sensor but there's not much to a magnet and diode. You can see the five degree shift in the sensor a mounting bracket.
  20. These ignition systems are designed with some very specific parameters, they don't need the extra advance at low altitudes. On a stock setup I doubt you would gain anything... Unknown to me my engine had the standard CPS in it, when I changed to the high altitude CPS I did notice a difference. Going over Berthoud Pass at 11,306 ft. I don't need second gear quite as much.
  21. I ordered the Standard Motor Products CPS from RockAuto, #PC307. This is a quality part for ~ $37. It is the "high altitude" with 5 degrees advance built into it. If you look close at the photos in RockAuto you can see where the sensor part is shifted on the mounting bar toward the top.
  22. 96 Booster and Master Cylinder was the best upgrade I ever did to this vehicle. Modify the pushrod, use the 1/4" spacer on the firewall and form your brake lines. You will have to move the windshield washer tank.
  23. There should be a adjusting link between the ball on the arm and another ball on the rear diff. cover. As you truck moves up and down with a load it will adjust the rear brake proportion.
  24. IMHO that has always been a strong point on Cherokee's and Comanche's and I have owned 5 different ones. You hit the washer button and those nozzles cover every square inch of windshield with fluid. It is hard to say, could be pump or nozzle. I would pick up a couple of nozzles at the junk yard and see if they are any different. I have never looked real close at the nozzles, not sure how they get such a wide dispersed spray pattern. Now I'm getting curious, I will have to pull one off and look at it under magnification.
  25. I found a unbelievably clean 2001 Cherokee with 76k. This thing looks new and smells new... It has the up country option with a limited slip diff. I'm curious about previous ownership, can some one run a car fax for me?
