  1. If you're looking for pneumatic and cheap Tractor Supply has a really good 3/4" drive impact and its affordable. I don't know the brand but can go look if you're interested in the brand. It has a blue handle and a chrome body. It never needs any maintainance other than normal stuff like oiling.
  2. How would I tell which transmission is under my truck? It's a five speed no granny low and I'm pretty sure it's stock from '89. I'm new to jeeps sorry for all the questios :???:
  3. alright. Are 5 speed 4wd trannys common or are they hard to find? Because I would like to keep it a stick. I would also like to have my tranny incase i grind some gears down to nothing haha.
  4. I have a DeWalt corded Impact and It's stronger than any of our pneumatic stuff. It's only problem is it's hard to change out sockets on it.
  5. hahaha wow i was very tired when i posted that second one last night. I feel verrrrrrrry stupid after that. I even asked my brother what he thinks about making it a 4WD and asked him why I needed a tranny with it. Sorry for the brain fart. But I'm not as ignorant as I make myself out to be I do know I need a transfer case to match the 4WD front end. Does jeep make a divorced transfer case? If so what would I find one on?
  6. I can't believe you put a stack in it...  :headpop: :fs1: :ack: :wall:
  7. is there something wrong with the 5 speed tranny? or do you just prefer automatic? (edit) HAHA I retract this entire post. Forget it happend. I was sleep deprived.
  8. O.K. I have an '89 eliminator with a 4.0, 5 speed, and a d44 rear end. It's my DD but I want to do more with it. I'm on a very tight budget so anything I do has to be very carefully planned out. I would love to make it a 4WD but have no idea how much money that would mean pouring into it. I have all the tools to do it including cutting torch, grinders, welders, and anything else you could imagine, I just need direction. Help me out people. I have a clean slate and need helping writing on it :help: . Let me know what you think and let other people know so I get plenty of feedback. here's what we have to work with: There are additional pics on this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21056
  9. She's gorgeous bro. I have alot of respect for beat up trucks. It means they're tough :D . It was once said about my Uncle then later about me that "You likes junky thangs". I'm foolish about them  My MJ's tailgate hardly works either, so i leave it down :dunce: . Anyway great to have you. Keep us posted.
  10. Wellllll.... Mine says it gets about 20 mpg, butttttt... I always knew the speedometer was slow, so last night i pulled up next to a cadilac or something with a huge digital readiout. it read 57, mine read 47 :ack: I knew it was about that far off but it't not because of my tires or anything. The previous owner was a world renown cheap skate and I'm positive he messed with the speedometer til he got it to slow down and make his miles stay down so he could sell it. Still a good jeep, and I can honestly say it gets OVER 20 mpg :D so i have a ball park of my mpg and I don't care enough to be acurate. BTW thats a 4.0 5speed. IDK the gears.
  11. This is a true story, and also extremely funny. I once owned a horse who was very curious, very tough, and very easily aroused. My dad and I were working on something in the shop when we looked over and saw this horse standing there with at full mast and very proud of it. He then got the notion to see how the top wire (the only electric wire) of our fence tasted. He reached out with his upper lip, and touched it to the fence. He flinched and down below it resembled a bullet going backwards into a gun barrel. If I would have been standing closer I'm quite certain it would have made a pop or snap for breaking the sound barier. It was hilarious and I laughed for a very very long time about it. Any more stories/jokes?
  12. I'm hoping for one of those kind of deals. I really need a jeep with a good 4WD front end in it. I don't care what else is has in it as long as it has some spare parts for mine and a 4WD to slap in it. I love the deal you got though. If nothing else its a good investment for if you tear out a front/rear end or anything else.
  13. This is a cool site but don't trust it too much. I ran my numbers by it and it had some of them but most of the time my letter wouldn't even be on the list, and if it was it was wrong. Cool reference site, but be leery.
  14. and is it automatic or stick? Because it sounds like a passing gear linkage problem even though you said it wasn't the transmission. Passing gear linkage is more relative to fuel anyway. Sence when you floor it it stops shuttering it sounds like its shifting up when it doesn't need to and shifting down to the right gear when you give it gas. And it doing it sitting still may not be realated because my jeep (a stick shift) shutters sitting still sometimes but when I'm on the road it only shutters when I shift too soon. Thats my take on it but I could really use some more info about the truck.
  15. gotchya. I didnt know that, glad to learn :D thanks. and btw i have no idea how to move threads around lol
  16. hahahah I know exactly what you mean. I don't know how many times I've heard "is that a jeep?". It gets old lol but I still love the fact that people think its the best thing ever when it had no paint and it's covered in dents lol
  17. here's some more of my handy work. My battery wasn't tied down so it ran the risk of bouncing up to the hood and shorting out the whole truck. I made this with some rod and angle iron. I also put a button switch on my hood light. It came on when the hood opened and I didn't like my battery to die every time I worked under my hood. This took all of 5 minutes and helped a ton.
  18. yeah just the elbow. I wasn't trying to use PCV valve as an entirely technical term, just the 4.0's method of crank case ventilation. I should have some pics sometime today.
  19. I just figured I should share this with anyone who cares. My PCV valve was constantly spewing oil all over the inside of my hood. The factory rubber piece that inserts into the PCV hole was missing, and the piece i found on an old chrystler engine behind my house that fit it was so old that it was to hard to go in it, so me and my dad got two long pieces of hose clamp and welded washers to the end of those, then we hooked that up to the PCV on one end and the valve cover and something else on the other end. I can't remember all the details but anyway I'll get some pics of the job we did. I fix things to make them work, not beautifull. ;) I'll probobly take a picture of the battery tie down i made too. I'll post that here I suppose. Any other home remedies? Any one else who has a welder or drill etc. and likes to fix things? Let us know.
  20. I'm not quite shure how to move my thread. this is only my second thread. :dunno:
  21. I haven't been a member very long but I figure it's time I show some pics of the Manche. It's an '89 Eliminator with a 4.0 and a D44. It also has terrible paint and dents which i have no plans to fix. Hope you like it The only real upgrade i have done besides basic repair are these baja fogs because the jeep stock ones were rusted entirely and didn't work. I use these all the time becase I live right by the lake were fog is abundant. My girl friend. She actually likes riding in this pile :D Any Questions or Comments?
  22. My rear bumper is beat to death and has a hitch ball on it. I hate it and plan to replace it with a piece of 3 1/2 " steel pipe. I want to cut the pipe in the middle and fabricate (possibly just cut off my old bumper) the liscense plate holder and step up with lights. here's my current bumper. I'll post a pic of the new one when it happens.
  23. Hardcore Smokey and the Bandit fan ? :dunno: I think its cool though , I've had a 77" and a 78" Trans Am . The 78" was a Bandit edition , all black with the gold trim . Had the 400 pontiac HO . The 77" was a formula T.A , with the Buick small block 400 . My 78" would eat it for lunch . Sorry to rant , but its one of my favorite cars ever besides my 72" GTO Lemans . Yeah to get totally off topic i love my comanche but my Real baby is my 72 dart swinger. 318 but needs work.
  24. So i suppose i have a D44, which is exciting. Is the D35 even a pos? (also note the two tractor exhaust mufflers, hopefully my first big project will be to split the manifold and true dual it with good mufflers)
  25. Yeah if it doesnt rain much and your not planning on floating your jeep across a river like a covered wagon i wouldn't worry about it. But were I live i couldnt do that. I thought about your ram air system as soon as i took off from my driveway this morning. It had poured rain all night and water was standing several inches high in some places on the road and the guy in front of me was dousing me with water. Not to mention the roads around here that cross creeks. There aren't many of those left what with the marvel of bridges but there are still a few and i wouldn't want to be too limited to cross them in my pickup. i may look into piping it to the grill like you said. that would work fairly well but still may cause problems.
