  1. long bed, keeps in my motorcycles tucked in nicely when they take a dump or need transporting!
  2. this is how i always move first on these squealers
  3. Ok thx guys - i'll pass them on or chuck them out
  4. is there any actual documentation of the failures of Frams in jeeps -or is it just one of those "I know a guy who knows a guy" story? reason i'm asking it the guy i bought my jeep from must of gave me half a dozen new frams and a fram was on the jeep, which i replaced with another brand - but if its all unicorn talk......
  5. great cleaned out the NSS, took only about 45 m - so easy was awful gunked up - hopefully the no start is a past issue! thx all!
  6. hey Gang So i replaced the starter, not sure if that was it or not but i had a $40 discount from Napa so figured why not, ended costing me about $33 - the new starter sounds different than the old one for what ever that worth. The non start hasn't occurred, so maybe that it - but i'm going to pull the NSS and clean it up - can you guys tell me will the one on my jeep (2wd) be similar to the one described in this link http://bc4x4.com/tec...ety-switch-nss/. ? thanks as always! mike
  7. OK thx guys - i'll watch the volts and play around - going between neutral and park didn't seem to make any difference - problem is its done it once in the last 3 weeks - prior to changing out the ignition switch it was doing it about once a week so i thought i had nailed it down but apparently not, i do believe the starter is original - i'm also trying to remember if i hear the fuel pump spinning up when there is a non start but can't recall - i'll pay more attention and start compiling a list addressing the suggestions the next time it occurs
  8. Hi Cruiser i don't have accurate numbers, but there is a large drop from 12.5V on my dash board volt reader even if the truck starts - the non starts occurs so infrequently i haven't checked that out yet as it always catches me by surprise and like i said it seems to start 2-3 mins after the non start condition (at least to date it has) m
  9. Hey all best wishes for the new year! I have encountered a problem that i hope the collective wisdom of the forum can help me with. My 87 2wd auto occasionally won't start as of late. All the instruments etc in the cab have power, there is just no cranking of the motor -regardless if its park or if i switch to neutral. I have replaced all the power cables, and done the ground refreshing etc along with replacing the ignition switch that's down in the column (my turn signal relay went out so i replaced them both at the same time) . If i wait for a bit it always starts up again, but i'm fearful it will take a dump on me in some remote location and won't start. Should i be looking a some replay perhaps ? or other suggestions ? thx as always! Mike
  10. I'm also curious why the engine would start quicker now too as I thought the primitive ECU was the culprit for long cranking....
  11. great thx gogmorgo - cleaned all terminals and hasn't done it again, but think i'll pull the switch and clean that too thx! m
  12. Hey all so my Comanche had/has a non-start issue (87 4.0 2w dr auto) - i'll jump in it tun the key, get power etc etc, but no start - no clicking of the starter etc. I'll turn it back off and after afew tries it fires right up. I first thought starter switch, so changed it out, and for a week it was fine so thought i'd fixed it - but did it again this morning. I'm planing to recheck all the grounds, but i did redo all of them recently, including refreshing all the cables from battery to their spots. Any thoughts what to look at? maybe neutral switch is dirty ? thanks as always Mike
  13. great thx Don - found some place close by that will make a hose for me
  14. Hey gang Ok so I stuck some of the R12a stuff in my AC - it blows cold - GREAT! , but man i was smelling something "unusual" under the hood while filling - the hose coming off the compressor going up to the radiator area (the hi port side i guess - not the one where i filled the compressor with) has a leak and was spewing the refrigerant out as fast as it went in - fck!!! Anyway the jeep is an 87, 4.0 - so my question - what's that hose called so i can replace it with proper part (part # be great is anyone knows it as the local autoparts store is more jeeptarded than i am), is it specific for an 87, and should I get an other parts (o rings ? etc) ? thx! mike
  15. i made the same mistake too, so don't feel to bad!
  16. sweet thanks Don !!!
  17. Ok so did you guys have to mess around with the adapter /add a elbow sort of deal - - i notice that when to put the adapter on the low side port from the R12a kit it effectively makes it so the spring adapter/coupler hose won't fit as the high side port is too close to the adapter part thx! mike
  18. Ha i didn't realize i need to add an adapter that was right in the kit - what a dumbass! hahaha thx guys!!
  19. Hey gang so after reading the stories of AC's and R12a recharges i thought maybe id see if i could revive my AC - but damn if i can't find the low side port - anyone point me in the right direction or have a pic of it? comanche's a stock 87 4.0 2wd w/ AC setup (of course!) thx Mike
  20. have you adjusted it according to cruiser54s protocol ? just turning it won't do the trick http://cruiser54.com/?p=54
  21. did you check the compression with the engine warmed up? maybe that will tell you if something is amiss when warm, as if the cylinders are all about the same that would suggest it is something else
  22. thx guys - I am eliminating the HCV and upgrading my bottle + changing fluid to 20/80 - hopefully those hills will be a breeze!
