hey gang Ok so i got the general leaf springs all in (thanks for help all) - 2.5" of lift (!), way more than i'd like to have or want - but honesty i also put in a set of the JKS shackles in too that are about an inch taller than the stock ones - so i'm thinking if i can get a set of shackles w/ original dimensions (and good bushings) i'd can live with 1.5-1.75 inches of lift and try and balance out the front in the next few weeks does anyone know the actual real part number of the Chevy replacement ones that are the same size - my old shackles are wasted - bushing totally shot - and i'm thinking new ones would be easier than trying to fit bushing in the old clapped out ones anyway thanks as always mike

what OME springs do you have in the front AMC? looks like all were for lift (not that i may not have some in rear w/ new springs, but hoping minimal)
-
i have moog springs waiting - they were on sale - ($65) hopefully they don't suck
-
thanks guys! - you guys are awesome! - yeah when i lifted the spring a bit it looks like it will align - just need to drill it out and get new u bolts !
-
Thx Bo - yes that is exactly what i was trying to say - OK, i'm gunna drill the holes out - but my U bolts need replacing as there pretty whacked too and of course th e shop that carries them is closed until monday - arghhhh >>>think what you are saying is the alignment pin is not aligned up with the hole in the perch. The old springs are worn in and your bushings have worn also.
-
thanks guy - one more question - the things / nub were about an inch away from the hole in the axles w/ new springs - i put the old spring back in to just visualize it (not tighen in) and the tab/holes were about 1/4 away and easily aligned - just a bit paranoid i got sent the wrong springs now and if i drill the old axle out i'm fck'd any thought on the distance w/ new springs

hey gang So i decided i need to replace my original leaf springs in my 87 4.0 2WD, i could see the bushing were worn and thought i'd get the cool military wraps from general spring and hope i didn't get to much lift compared to the old saggy springs. Anyway 5+ weeks later they finally show up and i tear the thing apart only to find the small alignment nub's on the springs are of course larger than the holes in the axle they're suppose to pop into (its a dana 35 and after struggling to get them aligned for 30m and still not getting close). Anyway i measured them and sure enough there about .040 bigger than the original nubs on the old springs - i figure i have two options, wait for general to respond to my emails (they are pretty slow on replying, when i emailed to ask about the shipping date of the parts) or drill the holes out a bit bigger on the axle - which i admit i'm not to crazy about. Any thoughts on the drilling them out , and hopefully not punching a hole into the axle? kinda pissed as trucks jacked up and looks like it went for a few hr job to a week or two if i wait for general to fix the problem thanks! mike

Yet Another Overheating MJ
mik666 replied to Comavalanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
do they screw down tight (the caps)? if not the tank itself may be past its expiration point from age etc -
Yet Another Overheating MJ
mik666 replied to Comavalanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
also make sure the cap is tight on the overflow/reservoir tank - i replaced mine with one from a volvo which is supposedly a better cap and fit nicely -
Updated: cooling problems and less confusion
mik666 replied to Wesleypipesyo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
sounds like the cap wasn't on properly and it caused it to overheat - i installed a temperature gauge into my 87, just to keep an eye on it as the idiot lights suck -
ha - i hear ya ! (another one that my brother uses about 10x in a sentence!)

IAT - what part catageory is it?
mik666 replied to mik666's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK thx guys - i actually found the GM connector for the later still available IATs in another thread for $6 on ebay (with shipping!) so i am going to rig it up on old connector w/ out cutting anything and try it w/ new Napa Part : ECH TS5100 in the air box - may move the whole thing over if it becomes an obvious plus or just leave it depending upon how the ever increasing web of wires pisses me off -
Hey gang i want to try the IAT relocation ( i know its a questionable mod), but think i'll just get a new one rather than move the old one so i don't have to plug the old hole and can move the new one into the old place should i see no difference thing is i can't find it on rockautos sight - is there an alternative name or am i just retarded and can't find it (quite possible i know) thanks! mike oh 4.0 '87 if that matters

i figured Stephanie was the name of the truck? kind of how mine is named POS

have you tried bleeding the brakes? you may of damaged the master cylinder or caused some other problem - but getting air bubbles in the master makes me think you have air in the system from something, i'd try just bleeding the brakes and at least see if there air in the system and if it pushes it out when you open the bleeder valves and does it build any resistance afterwards

radiator question - shifting problems
mik666 replied to mik666's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thx Tim yeah did that - i ended up popping the top radiator hose off at the radiator and pouring coolant in the hose until it came out of the radiator, then put it back on and then added some to the overflow/ reservoir tank - once i looked at it i see why shifting was bad - coolant lines to tranny runs to radiator - after topping up drove around and it runs just like before - bit of panic and dumb-$#!&ness on my part - thx! -
hey gang - ok so thought i'd replace my radiator hoses (87 2 wd 4.0 auto) since they are probably 8-10 years old. easy enough, done in 10 m and since i didn't see any radiator cap i just sort of poured some coolant in the over flow tank thinking it was some type of open system and drive down to wash the thing at local do it yourself place ( few blocks away) . on the way back it wouldn't catch anything above first gear (and would drop out of that at most RPMs) and when i pulled in the driveway the coolant in the overflow was boiling off like crazy - did i f'up and just miss the cap - it isn't readily apparent (i admit i am a jeep/auto novice) - the idiot light never came on but i figure the overheating may of caused the shifting problems (over flow on a connector or something?). i believe it may be an aftermarket radiator as i see no cap - and i know the previous owner mentioned he pout an aluminum radiator in... any help appreciated of course

wiring switch for fog lights - what did you do?
mik666 replied to mik666's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
oh yeah - that is exactly what i'm talking about! thx -
wiring switch for fog lights - what did you do?
mik666 replied to mik666's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK thx guys - didn't think about the legality issue -
Hey gang - so i got my fog lights all in w/ relays etc etc and really just need one last hot wire going from a dash switch to the relay's to complete the installation and i'm curious to know what others have done. the switch i have needs a hot wire from the fuse box - or at least a hot wire that will be switched on w/ ignition, a ground wire (no big deal) and a wire that is connected to the dash light circuit (to be on when dash light are on). Any one do a similar set up that can describe what they did to point me in the right direction - i haven't looked at any schematics yet, so hoping a few suggestion will make it a bit easie. thx! Mike
