  1. My 90 still has parts with the AMC logo and it's an AMC design with the pre Chrysler Renix control so I consider mine an AMC product, even if it legally was a Chrysler product.
  2. I thought I'd post the conclusion of this one in case anybody else searches for similar. It was the lower forward one that stripped. I drilled it to 7/16 and used a 7/16x5 bolt with allegorist nut, luck washers, all that. This way I can tap it to 1/2 later if I want. The other two bolts are threaded into the box like usual.
  3. Also gotta remember that it isn't all hard men running into battle. They've got their own teachers and doctors and mechanics and other jobs in the military, too, and recruiters are the used car salesmen of the military.
  4. I didn't realize it was going on hard. I was laying on the ground holding the box up. My buddy isn't super mechanical. Ain't no biggy
  5. I was finally trying to install my new front bumper and steering box spacer. I was having a really hard time holding the box in place and getting the bolts lined up and started so I had a friend come over to lend a set of hands. I crawled underneath to hold the box up while he started the bolts. Got one started, then moved to the second one. After a minute he says "wow, this is getting really tight and I still have a bit to go." So I stop and have him back it out and sure enough, totally cross threaded. I've seen some people say drill and tap for 1/2 inch bolts, but is there any reason not to drill through it and use a longer bolt with a nut? It's dark out now so I can't really picture it but I feel like there was room. Any thoughts? Thanks
  6. I feel like the 3 link long arms are a short cut. They work, but locating the top of the axle/holding caster with a single point won't be as strong as two points. I wouldn't personally want to sacrifice strength and stability for possible flex, but I drive mine daily.
  7. There's also a difference between occasional fast desert runs and real jeepspeed stuff. Drop brackets, 4.5 coils and good shocks, track bar, Chevy brake lines, deaver leafs and matching shocks will suffice for moderate use. But if you really want to run you need to beef up the uniframe and front dummy axle and put a stronger rear end in. I'd go with a later explorer 8.8 with a locker. And if you're going all out might as well go long arm instead.
  8. I'm excited to see the rockers, since I already have bumpers. You mentioned shipping. I've wondered how nates4x4 manages to be so cheap. My bumpers from him aren't as nice as your bumpers appear to be. Very basic design. Average welds. Basically a steel square tube with some brackets welded on. But he managed to sell me a front bumper with light bar/grille guard for 220 shipped. Based on pictures I'd rather have your bumper and I'm not trying to advertise for nates, but I wonder what he's doing that allows him to ship so cheaply?
  9. You looking for ghetto fabulous or just decent sounding stereo? I've just got kicker 5.25s all around. Came with the truck. They go loud. Sound okay. Not a big kicker fan. I couldn't possibly give up what little storage area we have behind the seat for a sub. Especially with how undersized the box would be.
  10. I cut mine and made cheap flares from home depot bits. 33s at ~4 inches lift
  11. My understanding is that the 00 head redesign is garbage.
  12. I acknowledged that Willis is right because it's a guys name. But it's like Porsche. Most people incorrectly pronounce it porsh so that when I pronounce it Porsha they think I'm a pretentious sob. I was just saying I'd never heard anyone anywhere pronounce it Willis, to the point I didn't know that was right until Wikipedia corrected me.
  13. I've ALWAYS heard it pronounced the way it's spelled. My ex wife had a 41 Willys coupe (Americar) with a barely streetable SBC and I only ever heard it pronounced Will-ease by anyone who ever talked about it. I know that technically it is incorrect since it's a man's name and should be pronounced as his was, but I kind of think of it like Porsche. Everyone calls it a Porsh and think I'm a pretentious bastard when I call it a Porsche even though I'm technically correct.
  14. Awful engine. Had a ram with it in high school. Parents bought it new in 97, sister got it as hand me down in 02ish, it threw a rod through the block at about 80k miles, my dad put a new crate engine in, I got it in 04ish. What a dog. It broke down multiple times on me. Always annoying things. Ignition, fan, starter. We sold it at like 90k miles with the barely broken in engine. Good riddance. Not worth the work
  15. I saw one parked at a road construction site a few months ago but otherwise I never see them around me. Probably because most of them rusted away a long time ago. Damn Illinois salt.
  16. I'd stick with the Ford mirror. I swapped mine from stock to Ford and won't be going back. They look beefier, which is nice, but they also just work better for me. I HATED how blind I was with the stock mirror.
  17. Sounds pretty good. Not v8 good, but better than I'd have expected from that engine. Looks great, too. I'm inspired.
  18. Is he just messing with everyone?
  19. I'm running 33s on stock gearing and it's fine. Not as peppy but I cruise 60+ fine. I'll regear when I do the 8.8 swap. Or find a 4.11 8.8 since the 3.55s aren't too bad now.
  20. I bought Chevy brake lines from rock auto. Longer, OE quality, cheap, easy to find.
  21. Depends on how you want to do it. Long arm, drop brackets, just longer arms to stock location, soa, sua with taller leafs, sua with longer shackles... You'll want a decent adjustable track bar, longer shocks, springs, correct bumps. If you go CAD you'll probably want adjustable control arms. In the rear I personally would stay sua and get hell creek 3 inch leafs and then some longer shackles. And of course shocks. There are a lot of kits. For the most part Cherokee xj fronts will work, rears are different.
  22. I've got a set of brand new RRO Mj specific drop brackets that I decided not to use because I'm not lifting my truck any more. If you're interested let me know.
  23. I dig that front bumper. Seems priced around or a bit under similar bumpers I've seen.
