Looking for a Firewall Pad - Thx

I've got a 1996 AX5 with external slave. If interested PM me your zip code and I can figure a price shipped. It's probably going to weigh 80-90 lbs crated so if there's any way to ship to a business address it would be cheaper to ship there.

Repainting the Comanche...seeking some wisdom
kroyusa replied to Ryno's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Last summer I rattle canned the family boat, 1987 Starcraft 18'6" Superfisherman. Materials: 3M eraser wheel for all stickers - $44 (used about half of it) (8) cans Navy Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel - $32 ($3.88/can, caught a sale at Menards) (10) cans White Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel - $40 (2) cans Regal Red Rustoleum Protective Enamel - $8 (2) cans Silver Rustoleum Metallic Enamel - $9 (12) cans SprayMax 2K Glamour Coat Clear - $192 (local Automotive Paint Supply had special going @ $15.70/can) (2) cans SprayMax 2K Epoxy Primer - $32 (2) cans Rustoleum Filler Primer - $8 Misc - $200 for Respirator mask, tape, sandpaper, masking paper, tack rags, Prepsol, Box-O-Rags, Evercoat Lightweight Filler... Total - $569.00 Process: Wheeled off the stickers Sanded areas needing body work with 80 grit Applied Epoxy Primer to bare metal spots Sanded whole boat with 220 grit Sprayed Filler Primer on areas looking low or where factory base coat looked thin Put Lightweight Filler where it looked like it was needed and sanded with 80 grit then 220 grit (this was longest step as I had to do a lot of the spots 2-3x to get level) Made sure any plastic filler had primer on it Sanded whole boat with 400 grit Sprayed the color in 2 coats - 1st coat light then 2nd coat heavy. Let it sit for 3 days Sprayed clear in 2 heavy coats 2nd pic is color without clear Putting on the color is the trickiest, the Spraymax clear flows great. I tried one of those spray can trigger handles but it was hard to control the flow. Once I learned to keep my finger from going past the front of the spray nozzle the sputtering and dripping stopped. Definitely practice with a can of Rustoleum to get the feel. Used boat all last summer and even towed it back 300 miles to where we keep it and it still looks great. -

Donation sent. I also agree that the image looks great, very appropriate given the circumstance.

Took a knee when I saw Don passed. I'm another that never met him in person but appreciated his candor, sense of humor and immense knowledge. Prayers to his family.

Cherokee vs Comanche Blower Motor
kroyusa replied to Cali Cruse's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Worth checking the Blower Motor Resistor AND the electrical connector on it. Tons of pics on line showing how they can melt. When I changed my blower motor I also changed the resistor and the harness, there are kits that include both and you splice the connector wires into harness at a point where the existing wires aren't brittle. -
Best Tires for Comfortable Highway Driving
kroyusa replied to Cali Cruse's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've run Costco Michelin X LT AS on my wife's last 2 vehicles, both smooth on highway with good grip on wet or snowy roads. 99 XJ where they went 70,000 miles 01 Escape where they have 30,000 on them and still have great tread I put a set of Cooper AT3s on my 98 2WD Ram and it's very smooth on highway as well. Good traction wet or snow. -
Glad it missed you. Consider finding an Insurance Claim Advocate to maximize coverage by your insurance company. Also get a couple of independent quotes, we had a lot of bad weather up here last year, (high steady winds with micro-bursts upto 80 mph), and a co-worker of mine had to fight for his coverage. The insurance company's adjuster came in at a 3rd of what was really needed but he had a couple other estimates and got the funds to do the job right.

The last big piece I need for my project is a 4.10 geared Dana 30. I utilize www.car-part.com all the time and found there's a few different searches one can try to capture Comanches and Cherokees in their system. On the left is search selection criteria entered - on the right is what is returned as options to search for and the model years returned. So FYI - if your'e looking here's what you can find.

Please share the source for OE Seat Covers. Thanks

Oil leak after new rear main install
kroyusa replied to Scooterlawson80's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
See if the o-ring between the oil filter adapter and block is leaking. I had that issue on a 99 XJ, oil was running down the block on to top of oil pan and then to the back of motor. I think i was $6 for the o-ring. -
Putting in an Ax-15. Thanks for the replies!

I just discovered I have a D44 in my rig. When I ordered it back in 89 I selected the towing package along with Limited Slip. Pretty sure it has 3.08 gearing as it's a 4.0 2WD. I've read that I may be able to add a set of thick 4.10 gears, any recommendations on which brand of gears to use? Thanks.

Had this in the garage from my days as a tech. Used it last week to solder wires together under my buddy's F150 and it worked great. The soldering tip put enough heat on the wires to suck in the solder. There's a tip in the kit that puts out heat without flame and that worked great on the heat shrink. I've also been using the torch tip to heat stuff as I disassemble my Comanche. Helped me get the brake lines out of the distribution block, front bumper bolts and steering box bolts so far.

pigeot to ax15 swap help
kroyusa replied to th3m4nm4rcu5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not sure where you live but I've got a 1988 2 WD BA/10 w/120,000 miles on it that I'll give you just to get out of my garage. I'm 15 miles from Detroit. -
Don't feel alone Rochester, I accidentally bought a 96 XJ from IAAI auction back in May. Put in a prebid of $350 and didn't check back until two days after auction, much to my surprise my account showed "Vehicles you need to pay for = 1". Had been watching their online auctions for 3 months and never saw a single XJ go for less than $800 - lucky me. Ending up being $650 with fees and delivery plus a large surge in the wife's blood pressure. Since then I've parted it out for $835 and I'm keeping the 8.25 29 spline 4:10 for my MJ. We jokingly called it the Oopsmobile. So to Hornbrod's question "how do you accidentally buy a vehicle?" My answer is "be a little ADHD and have a good internet connection"
