  1. I'm not sure how close my truck was to stock height, but it measured 20 1/4" from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flare before the AAL.
  2. Well I got it done last night. I added just the dakota main leaf and it got me 2" of lift and a much better ride quality. My rear leafs were very soft before and the truck would sway a little side to side.
  3. Search ebay for the seller blacktunaroll he sells true 2" coil spacers for around $45 shipped. Most spacers are advertised as 2" but only measure 1 3/4". Also if you buy the shackles as bignuke suggested you want the smaller of the two they sell. They will measure 7.5" bolt to bolt. The shackle bolts are 1/2"x 4 1/2" long and get some nylon lock nuts to go with them. This should only cost you $90-100 bucks for a 2" lift.
  4. I picked up a set of Dakota leaves tonight. I got the main with eyes cut already and the 2nd-3rd leaves for $40 off craigslist. When I went to the guys house he had a set of 3" skyjacker coil springs for $40 also! I will post the end result of my bastard pack this weekend for future reference to anyone who wants to try it.
  5. Thanks carnuck.. I was thinking about using an S10 main leaf and possibly the second leaf too. I think an XJ leaf would be too soft short for the MJ. Did you gain any lift on your truck when you did it?
  6. Is that an MJ plow set-up or did you make the newer meyers set-up work?
  7. What are your plans for your MJ?
  8. How is your steering? I had to replace my steering gear box in two of my MJs because of the same problem your having.
  9. I really wish that was an option but I am a struggling contractor! Shackles and new bolts would run $50($40 for shackles at autozone). I can get S10 packs for $24 bucks at the pick n pull, already have new centering pins, u bolts for $30 at napa, and spring clips for a $5. So the two options are pretty much the same price. I just want some opinions on which route I should go. Thanks for the input.
  10. I have 31s on my 89 MJ with stock very worn leaves in the rear. I haul 800-1400 pounds regularly so I need to get some more rear tire clearance. My 89 MJ I owned before the one I have now hauled 1800 lbs in it with no problems, and it had the D35 like my current MJ. I thought about just adding some chevy drop shackles to get another 1/2" or so and a better shackle angle...OR should I add a couple S10 leaves? I guess my dilemma is add shackles for a little lift or add a couple leaves for better load capacity and no lift? Would adding the main and second leaf of an S10 pack add any height or loose height because its SUA?
  11. EGR valve fixed it
  12. My 89 4.0 idles really low when its cold almost to the point of stalling. Its not a vacuum issue all the lines are good, I think it might be a sensor. After it runs for a min it starts to idle normal(800rpm) but I shut it off and restart and it will take a min to get back to 800. Could an oxygen sensor cause this? The IAC is new and I cleaned the TB last night.
  13. My junk yard kit includes a tool bag, a portable socket set, and a second usually unwilling person. Its actually kind of shocking how many times I have duped people into helping me carry random car parts all over the state of maryland! :rotf:
  14. Wow I guess I should go pick up the cargo switch I found the other day at the junk yard!
  15. :agree: EXACTLY what I do!
  16. The rear brake on the driver side locks up on me when adjusted properly. If I loosen the adjustment then the rear brakes have no power. Could the wheel bearing in the turdy five cause the drum to wobble and lock up the brakes?
  17. Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I would be better off waiting to find another nice XJ than spend all my money on a nice ZJ that is possibly going to break.
  18. I am looking at a 98 GC limited 5.2L fully loaded. Is the motor and transmission any good for this year/model? I don't know much when it comes to Jeeps other than the MJ and XJ. Any input would be great I am going to look at it tomorrow(friday) after work. Thanks
  19. If you ordered the RC kit for an XJ the shocks will be too short.
  20. Have you checked to see if your fan clutch has a good amount of resistance?
  21. I have soft lines from a 98 Chevy Silverado 2WD on my XJ with 4.5" RE lift. They are perfect length for the lift and are a direct swap as far as fittings and sizes. I bought them new from Advance auto parts for $15 each.
  22. Its worth it to me.. if I had to drive 30mph on the highway with my flashers on to get that lift for $30 I would. :dunno:
  23. He never had plates in his name on the truck.
  24. yes its adjustable, the best way to get at it is to remove the lower dash bezel for better access. It will be on top of the column and the high beam switch will also be attached to the column with the ignition switch. Just do a google search its pretty common.
