  1. thanks for the opinions on the lift. I was kinda teetering on the fence on that anyways. I'm not looking to make too much work or expense for myself. Basically exactly what 87 warrior said, just a reliable DD that can go down trails if needbe. and it snows a crapload up here so 4x4 is kinda do or die. i'll give blanchards a ring tomorrow see what they have. also: are there any particularly tried and true serpentine belts - mine looks terrible.
  2. I was told the front was 3.55's same as the read. i know the rears are 3.55's, haven't checked the front to be sure. nearest legitimate junkyard is about 45 mins away - "Blanchard's auto salvage inc" they have lots of stuff (last time i was there - like 8 years ago) I don't think much has changed in the how you get the parts. I have been keeping an eye on craigslist also. there are xj's for sale in the $250 range that don't have a ton of miles and might have what I am looking for. eg: http://nh.craigslist.org/pts/1197177723.html I have a rear driveshaft. I don't know if it will fit or not, but i have one anyways:
  3. ok, thanks for the replys. I'm kinda on a budget, surely not rolling in the dough. I'm 17 in high school with a lower paying job supporting me. ;) its all good though. anyone have a ballpark figure of how much the 4wd conversion and lift would cost?
  4. hello all, I got my MJ about a month ago, It is the 4 liter, has the 5 speed peugeot, rwd (D35) it has a front axle (D30) out of an 03 TJ. I'm looking to make this truck be a nice DD and a mild weekend warrior with option to make it a full wheeling rig. does anyone have any suggestions on what actions to take to finish the 4wd conversion? i'm thinking ax-15 + NP231/242 is defiantly going to happen... eventually. any suggestions on how to approach that and also a mild lift - 3 inch range. open to any suggestions really. tell me what you think. lots and lots of pictures here:
  5. New Hampshire.
  6. I went to TSC this weekend, and was happy to see that the 514 U-bolts are available in the store, though the website has no listing for them. $18 for all 4, with washers and nuts. Should the tie-in plate be replaced as well? sweet, i just used everything that was there. worked fine.
  7. lol. Exactly what I was thinking.
  8. Anyone ever seen this one? Image Not Found this picture rekindled the flame of getting an MJ. coolest Mj i have ever seen.
  9. What size? Men's Medium bag:
  10. I have a jeep backpack for school, haven't used it recently. will almost match my MJ when i ger 'er repainted. looking for a jeep shirt/hoodie, any suggestions? does the club sell any?
  11. cool grenade shifter on the army jeep. cool show.
  12. sweet deals and nice set-ups guys. I use dual 19" widescreens for my computer. i like it, works for what I do. fools gold - good movie too. ;)
  13. whoa, awesome MJ, really good work on the build up. like all the pictures. ;)
  14. thanks, glad to be here, vast wealth of knowledge, i'm 17 and still learning quite a bit about vehicles and how they works and such, i know a lot from books and just being around a farm most of my life, but doing it yourself is surely different. got my signal light covers in today. now i just need a headlight bezel ring and the lights and the whole front will be all set. where can I get one of these? junkyard? i found some on ebay but they were a total ripoff. the side that's in looks nice, everything has fit perfectly so far, now for the ugly. the drivers side floor was replace, no so for the passenger side, although it was fiberglassed forward in the cab near the door, they look pretty gnarly. the picture i took does it no justice. I can't poke a screwdriver through or anything, but its thin in some parts. need to get that taken care of pronto - herculining after sandage maybe, along with the bed. going to see if i can get to the junk yard and pick up some bucket seats and kill two birds with one stone, but that is for later. got a better picture of the tailgate latch too, and I do not have a headliner. And BTW - that was the floor After i scraped off a bunch and vacuumed it up. Need to fix that dern speedo cable (again) too, has given me nothing but trouble, another thing on the list is a serpentine cable, anything especally recommended?
  15. yeah, i was surprised of the rust, especally because it lived right on the coast for the majority of its life. the floors have already been replaced - will take a closer look when i change out the bench seat.
  16. hmm yes, i'd take that off first. great looking job though - looks like they were never there.
  17. yeah, its on the list. :)
  18. hello folks. discovered this site the other day and have been reading about everyone rides and helpful information all day long. :) I have always been intrigued by Comanches, but never saw one nice enough to go after. but then i saw one on on craigslist the 15th of last month, i was in the guys driveway with money on the 17th and drove it home (pops did actually). Its a 1988, short box, 2wd version - the crappy peugeot 10/5. no plans for that except to fix the dern speedometer cable and replace it with an ax-15 coupled with an NP231 down the road, also looking for a 8.25 rear axle or a dana44. I"ve gotten most of the work out of the way that it needs for inspection. New Ubolts, New tie rod end, cleaned it up a lot, newish tires, new shifter knob, checked all fluids and the like. seems to have been a pretty good deal. not much rust for new england, especally for being 21 years old. Need a serpentine belt and a passanger side headlight bezel ring. I'd like to get it painted back to the original blue it was. I am looking for a higher gauge package off an xj for a swap - hate the idiot lights. so anyways, i think i got a good deal, not quite as good as most of yall on here, but not bad. Its my first truck, hopefully it'll last and do everything i want it. :) my cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3338905 and pictures, why of course. on the way home. new tie rod end.
  19. go look in your local Tractor Supply maybe, theres where i saw it.
  20. http://www.carry-ontrailer.com/parts/514.htm it matched the old ubolts perfectly, and again i have a D35.
  21. there are garage door sensors that you set up on either side of the door, its a beam that goes from one side into a sensor on the other side. any break in the beam results in a stop of the door going down, and it will usually go back in the the open position. pretty neat stuff, very good if you have cats or similar things that sneak in, or a truck in the way. :) that way if the beam is not already broken, then you can put your foot in front of it or something to stop it. http://www.garagedooropenerguide.com/ga ... ensor.html
  22. Part #514, i have a Dana 35 rear, idk if it fits a Dana 44.
  23. hello. got my 1988 MJ last month. been working on it since. just getting it all set for inspection/registration and then fancy stuff later. its got 2wd - the peugeot tranny, and a 4liter and its short box. i'll start a project thread tomorrow maybe.
  24. I got new ubolts from tractor supply, i'll post up the part number if anyone is interested. fits perfectly. 6 bucks a pop also.
