  1. try a bit of marvel mystery oil in your engine oil. i have seen it quiet engine ticking noise on no less than 2 rigs in the last couple months
  2. Hauled some more barter material home today.. (the tires)
  3. you must have a auto mj then. hard to drive my manual mj with my size 10 work boots on.
  4. its all how you drive it. drive smart and don't beat on the axles and they will treat you well. i would say you would be fine on 35s in the mud with a dana 35 but it the rocks it may be a different story. I've seen guys running locked dana 35s on 35s in the rocks and they have not had any problems. its all boils down on how you drive.
  5. those are mtz mickey thompsons
  6. Did you get it done?

  8. I would make sure all the mechanicals of the Jeep are in great working order before you start. I hope you have something else to drive when the work is being done. I would dive in headfirst with the suspension and tires. Then onto lockers and gears. But its all up to you.
  9. When I took my MJ for the first ride this year, (stored all winter) it was getting HOT. I took the cap off the coolant bottle and it seemed to burp about 4 times and now it runs just fine at its normal 190 or so. :hmm:
  10. I did this to my XJ. Its a sticker that is designed to stick to the stamping on Wrangler or CJ. I think it looks good. :brows:
  11. Welder by trade. As of yesterday I was driving a lake barge for a dock company. Today I started as a Production Truck Driver at the largest steel mine in the country.
  12. I think the trans is from a 92 XJ. Thankyou for the info. What about driveshafts??
  13. looks to be the same stuff that i used. its like a white gel stuff. i was covered in the stuff when i was trying wipe it onto the bottom of my engine. napa just had their name on it.
  14. The dremel worked great on the pan. not so on the engine. The gasket remover i got was a white substance in a can with a little brush attached. I followed the directions to a "T" and still did nothing to loosen the gasket up. My next step is attacking it with a razor blade. Hard to work on your jeep when its located 40 miles from where you live :wall: Thats why this is so drawn out.
  15. must be downhill both ways to work
  16. Mine are loose and the steering wheel moves all over. I know its a couple bolts that are loose somewhere in the column. What do MJ owners do? Swap out the column or repair? I have another column but I would rather learn to make the repair on my current one. Unless it is that much of a  1988 MJ, 4.0 2wd Pioneer with tilt column
  17. I have heard from the diesel crowd that the Fram filters have a bad design for a drain back valve. Thanks all I got. I just need to hear of one person having problems and that is enough for me. I have ran WIX filters on everything I own since i heard about issues with Frams. If i feel rich when i order oil, I might spring for an AMSoil filter. But I'm told that they are no better then a WIX. Run a WIX and forget about oil filter issues I guess
  18. okay i will try those things for the inside. just for starters i used engine bright on the outside of the pan for now. I got the new rear main in today and spent at least an hour pretty much grinding the old oil pan gasket off the pan with my dremel. Same crap on the engine. I tried the dremel but i don't really want to screw up my oil pan mating surface on the engine. I tried used some gasket remover and it did absolutly nothing to the what looks like cardboard, gasket. Anybody know of some grinding tool that will no hurt the engine block, but will take the gasket material off? Buddy of mine has this said tool for a drill and it works great. Used it on aluminum snowmobile engines this winter and it removed no alumium, just gasket. He cannot remember what it is called.
  19. I've had good luck with the 'gasket remover' spray you can get at most auto parts stores. On really old gaskets, it will soften them up enough where you can use a gasket scraper to get a layer of gasket off. I then will apply another coating of gasket remover and repeat the process. I've also used the paint stripper spray can that's call 'aircraft stripper' when I ran out of the other stuff. I think it's basically the same stuff. Okay thanks for the info on that. I was more interested in chemical or whatever to clean the sludge out of the oil pan.
  20. What should i use to clean the oil pan after i get the darn thing off? I bought carb clean but not sure if I should use it. Cleaning the inside of the oil pan..
  21. holy $#!&! too bad it was not a Cummins :chillin:
  22. I'm going to give it another go this weekend. I want to drive my truck again!! Thanks fellas
  23. This pan is on my 88 L6 2wd MJ. The pan will clear the front "axle" on a 2wd?
  24. Thanks guys. Ill try the gasket remover trick. If that does not work, I'm not scared to destroy the pan i guess. Another quick related question: You can leave the starter on the engine and just remove the exhaust to free the oil pan, correct?
