  1. X2. People tend to forget what made old cars obsolete. truth! technology has increased in leaps and bounds over the years.. not just in powetrains and cool gizmos, but also in structural rigidity and quality of construction. here's a crash test between a '59 Bel Air and an '09 Impala... 1_ptUrQOMPs

    Need radio trim

aftermarket radio? if so you'd need to get the trim ring from the manufacturer.. usually you can find them on ebay, as one from a kenwood may not fit an alpine, etc... just type in the model # of the radio and if someone has one itll show up..

    Its my birthday

happy birthday! and yes gear wrenches are the best thing ever, as long as you don't turn a bolt out so far with them that you can't get the wrench off it..
  4. welcome! used to be a clevelanduh, now i'm down here in RI...

it's not just jeeps, its a regular junkyard w/ all makes
  6. only the front half was dry? the front half holds the fluid for the rear brakes only, so the leak is somewhere in the rear system.. if none of the lines are leaking, the only other place it could leak from is the wheel cylinders.. since it's been sitting for a while you'll probably have to pull the drums off to check those.. but take a real good look where the lines go behind the gas tank as well, sometimes if a line breaks up there it can be hard to spot..

jack's in bristol had a longbed a little while ago, i think it was an 86 :dunno: ...might still be there.. henry's (which is in blackstone, mass, but 2 minutes from woonsocket) had 2 last time i was there, but most of the common stuff was already gone, and i took most of the interior trim out of one for mine.. and a buddy of mine was at foster auto salvage a while back, and said there was a couple there.. the only other place i can think of is jeeps unlimited in providence might have some stuff, but they're not a you pick and pull and trying to do business with them can often be frustrating at best...

welcome! there's rt. 128 auto salvage right off the highway in waltham, thats about the only one i know of up that way.. a couple that are a little closer to me but a bit of a hike for you are henry's on rathbun street in blackstone, mass. and millis used auto parts on rt. 109 in millis, mass.. haven't been to the rt. 128 one in eons, but i go to millis and henry's regularly and they both usually have a ton of xj's sitting there.
  9. nice truck! to me anyway, i think on an mj that's all black (like mine) clear corners look infinitely better than the orange ones, which (again, to me) look a little out of place when every other light in the front is clear. i put orange bulbs in them so they still light up orange. i don't consider them "rice" or "fast and furious" style, just a tasteful visual upgrade that ties the front end together. fender portholes on anything other than the buicks they originated on and six-gun shift knobs to me are "rice"... all that being said though, paul i would stick with the orange lenses, i don't think clear ones would look all that good on an all white mj.. they would look ok on the maroon one if the grille was colormatched to the truck though...
  10. i got mine on ebay... noone likes the clears?
  11. most likely you haz blown a fuse...check all those first..
  12. there is a filter that goes in that canister, its at the bottom and almost noone ever changes it... i did mine a few months ago while i had the motor out and it was easy to get to.. if you pull the canister out, the bottom is actually removable and theres a round filter inside... they go for about $5 at the parts stores..
  13. ahhh... well it was 2 years ago when i bought it.. guess they've gone up a bit
  14. sorry, i sold mine a while back... you can get them on ebay, that's where i got it from originally.. think it was $25 shipped...
  15. congrats man! you've definitely got one of the cleanest mj's here!

    tough times

i think it'd be worth more as a 4x4, but how much more is anyone's guess... probably not a lot, but if you've got the rest of the parts to finish the swap you might as well finish it, as changing the axle and hanging the front shaft and installing the shift linkage could easily be done in an afternoon.
  17. i've had mostly positive experiences on CL... bought the mj from someone who had it for sale on there, matter of fact my last 5 vehicles were found on there... the only bad experience i had was trying to sell my '01 police interceptor. i got a ton of tire kickers and it took me about 4 months to sell it... i think next time i wanna sell a car i'm gonna list it in auto trader.
  18. bumpin' and grindin'
  19. quote from the ad: "I think the only thing rarer is an AMC Eagle with the same motor in it." anyone ever see a diesel eagle?
  20. haha nice.... another one i saw is: how to delete barack obama: 1. every morning when you turn your computer on, create a new file named "barack obama". 2. place the file in the recycle bin. 3. delete the file. when you go to delete it, your computer will ask "are you sure you want to get rid of barack obama?" 4. click yes. 5. repeat until you feel better. :rotf:
  21. pretty cool man, if only they had something like that that works with blackberrys..
  22. killed a fish

  24. i'm about 3/4 of the way through the swap, i didn't really make a write up on it but can probably answer most questions you might have... for the most part removal of the old stuff is pretty straightforward, me and jim (maddzz1 on here) had my 2.5 and ax-4 out and on the shop floor in about 4-5 hours using nothing but hand tools, and the 4.0 and aw-4 in and bolted down in about the same .... pete is right; basically everything under the hood changes, and a bunch of stuff inside the cab as well... starting at the front, the radiator is much larger than the 2.5 one, so you have the remove the brackets that the radiator bolts to. you'll need to grab all of the engine bay wiring off the donor, and if your donor is an auto, you'll also need the harness that goes into the firewall; for at the end of it, under the glovebox, is the transmission computer, which you'll also need.. the cooling system is different, so you'll need the heater blend valve, the surge tank on the firewall and all the coolant hoses. the blower motor has a different power plug on a 4.0 truck, so you can either splice the correct plug in or just replace it altogether. the gas pedal is also different so you'll need to change that. the fuel lines are also different, i spliced the 4.0 fuel lines into the ones on the truck already down at the frame. that's all i can think of for now, if you need to know something else feel free to ask..
