Excellent. Thanks all. I was shifting on the fly and in gear but wasn't sure it was actually working. We have more snow on the ground today so I'll get to play with it again.

I don't have the owner's manual. I know that I shift into 4wd while rolling but don't know if I do it with the clutch in or out and while in neutral or not. Anybody?

Will this fit my 91 comanche?

And I just noticed that I typed 96 instead of 91 comanche. I assume the 2000 sport door will fit my 91 comanche -

There's a guy here selling the door for $15. I haven't looked at it yet so don't know how different it's going to look. I'm also not sure if it has electric windows. That might be weird. One electric and one manual. I'll check it out. Where is Project Onyx's site? -

That would be great. Thanks

Do you have a picture of how you have that wired?

To Wildman: I'm glad to hear from someone who uses one. I do have separate batteries. What I need to check on is if the second battery is setup to charge from the alternator or just from the generator. If I attached a charger to it instead of running the generator or engine, how long would it take to charge? Are chargers slower than the alternator? It does have a safety on it so it shuts off before it completely drains the battery. Also, good to know about the extension cord because I'm going to have to use one to plug the tv/game system/computer into because the inverter will be too far away from them for them to plug in directly. I'm not going to run the AC off the inverter. That will run from the power supplied by the house. I just want this to run the incidentals so that I don't have to run the generator in the neighborhood and so that I don't overload that one circuit in the house. This should work great. Thanks for your input.

The battery that the inverter will be attached to is separate from the one used to start the RV. The inverter DOES have a safety that will switch it off once the battery is drained to a certain point. You're probably right about them saying it won't work. They probably do mean that I need another battery which I could put in the compartment with the one I have. Right now, the "house" battery only charges when the generator or motor is running. I need to figure how how to hook it up to charge when the rv is plugged into power. AND, I also have to say that the RV will be plugged into power but it's only going to be a regular house circuit. My concern is how many amps it's going to pull while the air conditioner is on. I don't want to over load the circuit that it's going to be plugged in to which is why I want to be able to use the inverter for some things. I have a trickle charger. Can I put that on the battery while the inverter is in use?

Not exactly jeep but I figure you guys would know. I have an rv and just bought a 3300 watt inverter. I want to use it just run the tv, game system or computers when I need to. I don't need it to run the entire rv. The RV people are telling me this won't work. I think they're wrong. It needs to be directly wired to the battery which is a deep cycle. It has three outlets on it which would run the tv or game system or computer or perhaps all three. Once in the morning it would run the coffee maker. They are saying that I need more than one battery to do this. Have I wasted my money? Can I do what I want to do with this inverter? I know it needs to be as close to the battery as possible but not in the same compartment. Not a problem. I can figure that out. Anybody here know if this will work?

What length do I need or will parts counter know that?

My truck isn't lifted and I rarely take it off road so it looks like I'll go with the Monroes since that seems to be the majority vote for my application.

replacing valve cover gasket
Virginia replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The top wasn't that dirty. The nasty was around the rocker arms. That's what needs to be cleaned. The bolt is a SAE 1/4 30 that's about 1.5" long. I did that. I used a torque wrench but I'm not sure it was working. The needle never moved and I got nervous so I hand tightened with a wrench holding it up around the socket end until i couldn't turn it with my left hand anymore. The air filter is saturated with oil. I had to change that and I did clean out the vacuum line along with the ccv tube. -

Alright. That's done. I have one ....well two problems. The replacement bolt that autozone sold me is too short. Will it hurt anything to drive with on bolt on the rocker cover missing? Second problem. It is NASTY under that cover. Is there some way to clean the sludge out without doing a teardown? Some additive I can run through there? Several oil changes? -

Tricky one in the back....does that mean it's on the very back next to the firewall? -
I've taken the bolts out that hold it down but I can't get the cover off. Do I have to pry it or is there some hidden bolt I need to take out? I'm afraid to hit it too hard with my hammer. My haynes doesn't really show me how.

Replacing front plastic grill
Virginia replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The fiberglass surround got cracked but not broken to pieces so I think I can pop it back into place and have it still be functional. The center plastic grille is what had some pieces broken off. -
How hard is that to replace or find? I back the motorhome into it this morning. Maybe I should just glue the pieces back together.
