I've got the 6cyl 4.0 4wd. What plugs do you all recommend?

Running hot and oil pressure
Virginia replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
More info...the radiator cap was cool but the top hose and the radiator was hot. I turned on the heater and it was blowing cold air while the temp guage was showing the needle right next to the red zone. As the needle moved down, the air began to get hot coming out of the heater. How do I know if the water is low in the the cooling system? -
Running hot and oil pressure
Virginia replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oil change doesn't make a difference. When I first crank it and it's cold the pressure is up around 60 then it slowly drops to 20 as the engine warms up. This is the first time I've put water in it since I had the radiator rodded about 7 years ago. I don't know what was used the last time I had it flushed which was just about that long ago as well. I know, way too long for that to be done. I'll have it flushed tomorrow. I am getting some rattle when I accelerate hard like on the interstate on ramp or having to pass someone and that rattle is new. -
Running hot and oil pressure

I'm seeing 20 at about 2000 RPM's. I believe it used to run close to 40 at 2000 rpms. I've never changed the bearings. Is that hard? When I turned off the engine, I could hear the coolant bubbling and could see it bubbling back into the expansion tank. I took the radiator cover off and saw what appeared to me to be mud. It was brown and looked like that really slick pond mud. It sounds like I'm suddenly having multiple issues. The oil pressure started suddenly and so did the hot engine. Should I flush the coolant? Change the thermostat? And do what about the oil? -
My oil pressure has been running around 20 when the engine is fully warm and yesterday the temp guage went up to right at the red zone. I checked the oil and found it was low so I added. I also added water to the overflow because that was totally dry. I'll see what the temp runs to day but am more worried about the oil pressure. Is 20 normal?

Engine missing when accelerating
Virginia replied to Virginia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Plugs are probably 5 years old. Wires at least that old and I don't have any idea how old the fuel filter is. I'll start with that. -
This is a new problem. When I'm accelerating at a fairly aggressive rate especially in third and fourth around the 2500 to 3000rpm range, the engine feels like it's missing. I can feel the truck sort of jerk a little. It's hard to explain. I don't feel it when I'm just accelerating normally such as regular city street driving. Where do I start to try and diagnose this?

It's the hard plastic elbow piece that attaches to the front of the valve cover then goes over to the air filter. I've done a search on the web and can't find a replacement part anywhere. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing. Am I going to have to go a jeep dealer to get this part? I called NAPA and they said they didn't have it. Neither does Autozone. Anybody have any ideas?

In may when this area flooded the truck flooded. It got over the bottom door sill so I suspect it got over the starter. It cranked and drove fine for a while then it started acting like the battery was dying. I had the battery tested and it showed bad so I replaced it. Worked fine for a while then started acting up again. I had the new battery tested, the alternator and the starter tested. While the tester was hooked up I tried to start it and it turned over slowly then suddenly it was like something let go and it cranked like it was supposed to. Did fine for about a month. Yesterday it was raining hard and I went out to start it. Dead battery. I've been told that the starter could be bad from where it got wet. Should I go ahead and put a new one on and is it hard to change? Anything I need to be aware of? Or, could there be something else wrong?

Sounds good. I'd still verify the charging voltage across the battery terminals. The alternator voltage regulator on your 91 is built-in to the ECU computer. Autozone can do it for ya. How do I do that at home? I have an analog voltmeter.
-
I cleaned terminals and made sure it had water. I tested and couldn't get anything to register across the terminals. I must be doing that wrong. While it was running (I had to jump it), I pulled the positive cable off and it kept running which told me it wasn't the alternator. I took it in and had Autozone test the battery. Bad. Dead as a murph. I replaced the battery.

I tried to start my truck this morning and it was a little sluggish. I drove it about 30 minutes then parked it for the day. I started it this afternoon and again, it was a little sluggish. I drove 30 minutes home. I turned it off then tried immediately to start it again and it just didn't have enough power to turn the engine over. It was showing charging while driving. Any ideas? Time for a new battery?

The manual is toast.

Sweet Mary mother of Jesus.......it STINKS. The carpet and pad is out. I found some old cardboard box and sand paper under the carpet. It's drying out now. There's a little surface rust in a few spots but the wire attachment on the grinder should make short order of that. I'll put that black stuff over it. I hadn't thought about a rubber mat. That might work great. I could make a pattern then cut it to fit. I found ants. Little black sugar ants. Sprayed that down. All in all, it's in pretty good shape. The floor pans are solid. I'm please. The bad....my Haynes manual is soaked. Not sure I can save it.

I'm tempted to just leave the carpet out and put some bedliner paint down. It stays muddy and no carpet would make it easier to clean.
-
Thanks all. I'll do this tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

I've got to remove the carpet in my truck because of water. I've done a search and can't find instructions on how to remove the bench seat. Can someone point me in the right direction?
