I'm not trying to pull my house.
-
THanks for the responses. I probably knew that. So, this leads me to another question. We're looking at getting a travel trailer which means a new pull vehicle because there will be at least 4 people traveling. What would you recommend? I'm looking at a trailer 3500lbs and under.

I have a 91 6cyl, 4.0 4wd with only the bumper hitch. What's my towing capacity? And what would it be if I added a different hitch?

Has anybody heard of or tried this? http://www.runyourcarwithwater.com/?hop=raptor235 I'm seeing references to this popping up all over the place and am wondering if it would work. 91 6cyl 4wd

Blew a puff of smoke for about 20 seconds

What might cause that? And how do I keep it from happening again? -
Weirdest thing happened. I pulled away from a green light and heard a fairly loud lifter rock. I looked in the rear view and saw a big cloud of smoke. I lasted for about 20 seconds while I was accelerating and then it just stopped and hasn't done it again. My oil pressure looks good and the temp looks good. When I got where I was going and could look around the truck I noticed oil dripping but the trucks been leaking oil forever. This is the first time I could actually see it dripping though. When I came out it had quit dripping. The puddle was about the size of a dessert plate. I drove home. No rattle and no smoke and no oil dripping. Any ideas?

I assume autozone carries this?

I think a little plastic piece broke out of mine. The WD40 didn't work so I'm going to take Frankdm83 up on his offer.

The button is pushed in and stuck. It won't hold the male end of the belt. Anybody have this happen and if so, how did you fix it?

Muffler problem but not on a jeep

I don't need the JB Weld to hold it. I just want that to plug the seams. The adjustable metal strap clamps will actually carry the weight of the muffler. -
This is on my 65 Midget but figure you guys would know whether this will work. Was driving my Midget to work and the muffler started clanging on the ground. When I looked at it, it appears that where the bracket attached to the top of the actual muffler broke away from the muffler taking with it a rectangle piece of metal from the top of the muffler. It's about 1 3/4" by 3/4'. The little rectangle piece is still attached to the bracket and feels fairly sturdy. Can I some metal roof flashing and cut it to fit over the hole then smear JB Weld all around it and use the adjustable metal strap clamps to pull the pieces back together? I'd use about 4 of the clamps. Two on each side of the bracket and one on each end of the metal flashing to keep it sealed at tight as possible. Will this work?

Optimas are gel cells right? Can't empty the chambers and refill with fresh electrolyte.

The battery I revived was 18v. The way I saw it done originally, the guy was using a welder and tapping the drill battery. I don't have a welder and when he said you could also use a car battery, I thought of my charger. Can't help you on your Optima. What happens if you disconnect it over night? I'm sure you've thought about something on the truck draining it.

I thought I'd share. I took my 12volt battery charger and taped the clamps to long sticks just in case something blew up. I held + to + and - to - to let it charge a little. I tried 3 or 4 times and each time I got a little more juice into the battery. On the last try I held it about 45 seconds then took it in and put it in the battery charger. It went right to the red light and took a full charge. It's working like a charm now. Before, the yellow and green lights never went off and it wouldn't spin the drill. Now it's a powerhouse. I'm eager to try it on my firestorm 14v batteries. Just thought I'd share in case any of you have dead batteries out there. Virginia

I haven't made any significant changes. Does need painting though. The black is fading with the clearcoat gone. Kelley blue book lists it private party in good condition at $1975. I'd guess I wouldn't get that and if the insurance companies go for retail, it's worth less than that. My guess is that any significant damage would result in a total. So many decisions. I should probably talk to my insurance company but wonder if they'd give me the straight scoop so that they wouldn't lose the monthly premium.
-
Mine is my daily driver though. Should that make a difference? if you have to have it to get where you're going then you might need some cash if it gets totalled. :dunno: i'm guessin thats the difference At that point, I'd pull the 65 MG or the motorcycle out. What would happen, though, is that I wouldn't have cash to make any repairs if any could be made. If it's NOT totaled and it's my fault, comprehensive and/or collision would pay for repairs right? Or does the age of the vehicle factor in to an insurance company's decision to total?

I have a 91 4x4 6cyl 5 speed with about 139000 miles. I currently carry comprehensive and collision but am thinking of dropping to just uninsured and liability. What do you all carry on your trucks?
-
I appreciate that. It was here that I learned exactly what had come loose. According to the folks here that helped me fix it, the jeep is notorious for wearing this part out because it puts so much stress on it. I don't know if that's true or not I also learned that basically what this part does is keep the truck body centered over the axle. Is that accurate?
-
Hey Eagle, If you scroll up to the posted picture and look at the track bar, it's the right side that's come loose from that bracket. It's all put back together now and is driving great. It's not a bolt and it doesn't go into a housing. A tie rod end has a tapered stud that goes into a tapered hole in a bracket. If it won't go in far enough to put the nut on the threaded portion, either there's something blocking the hole, the bracket is damaged, the stud is broken, or somebody sold you a tie rod end with a fatter stud thatn what your vehicle calls for. I'm here, you're there. I can't help much more than that from a distance.

Thanks Randi BTW....your quote cracked me up.
-
The end is still in one piece. I don't have the other little pieces and when I tried to push it back up in the housing, it was short about a 16th of an inch so they're going to have to do something to get the bolt back up in the housing.
-
It is definitely the Track bar. I've driven maybe 50 miles since it's been loose and I noticed the change in the steering immediately and also noticed the part hanging because it was noticeable and new.
-
One of the two has come loose. I found a diagram on the web and based on the picture it's more likely the track bar. I've also gotten some good information from some other mj owners. It's come loose on the drivers side and looks like it has a bolt attached to it. The truck doesn't pull to one side or the other but it feels like I have to oversteer to make it turn. When I do turn the wheel, the truck doesn't move but the wheels do if I do this standing still. If it is the track bar, is this something I can fix myself or should I take it in? Will any alignment have to be done? Here's a link to the parts diagram I found on the web. http://tinyurl.com/2nml2a
