  1. So, let me get this straight. You declined a credit card offer and they gave it to you anyway? Any time I've signed up for a credit card there was a fairly long and intrusive application including things like my address, SS#, yearly income, etc. Now, when you sign up for Paypal, I'm sure you give a lot of this info to them (it's been 10 years since I did, so I don't really remember). It just seems odd to me that there wasn't some middle step that was taken, like accepting an offer. Sometimes, when I sign into my Paypal account, I'll be greeted by their latest CC offer, which I usually just decline and it takes me to my account. Did you, by accident, click on something like that?
  2. i got the rubber one. Didnt have a torque wrench but they are snug not tight and not loose Good choice on the rubber gasket. I did notice that you used RTV on the gasket. Where did you use RTV? The only places I used RTV on the oil pan (when using the rubber gasket) was on the engine block side in the corners of the front & rear main bearing caps. Oh, and get a torque wrench. 8)
  3. Or at least this fool thinks so: http://cnj.craigslist.org/ctd/1890718600.html That's probably the 3rd or 4th time it's been listed on CL as a '96. What's humorous is that the VIN is posted showing it to be an '86, but our friend Tony seems convinced that it is a much newer model. I've actually been down to this lot and saw the MJ in person. It was closed, but it's an open lot on the side of the street so I checked it out anyway. No idea on a price, but it's actually not a bad looking MJ. It looks like it has been painted primer gray and it has five spoke Jeep alloys and a white fiberglass cap. I didn't give it a thorough inspection as I probably looked like I was trying to boost the truck and didn't need to be arrested for trespassing on a closed car lot. If anyone is interested in the truck, I can get some more details on it as well as some pictures. Based on the other vehicles in the lot, I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon.
  4. Ahh, yes, Paypal. It's one of those online services that will either score a 1 or a 10, but never anything in between. It seems like when they screw up, they screw up BAD, like locking out accounts that have several thousand dollars in them or even taking money from the bank account directly linked to your Paypal account. I've heard dozens of stories, but I have yet to hear one that was so completely unjustified it would make me close my account. I have been a Paypal user since 2000 when it was formed and have done several thousand transactions using their service. Never have I once had any complaints with the service. I've never had money 'frozen' in my account, never had money taken, and have even had several disputes resolved by the Paypal investigation team that earned me complete refunds on items I never received. Now, I understand that those negligent sellers that did not ship me my good got screwed because Paypal likely just stole the money out of their account, but tough $#!&, that's what you get for running an illegitimate business that does not deliver goods when they are paid for. I'm not talking about stuff getting lost in transit, either - that's the shipping company's fault - I'm talking about refusal to provide ANY documentation that the product I bought even existed or was shipped to me. During the Microsoft Bing Cashback era (that just unfortunately ended), the use of Paypal netted me $300.00 in discounts on items purchased through e-bay - items that I was going to purchase anyway were discounted to me because I used Paypal (for free) to purchase them.
  5. Well, if you DO sell those bucket seats and you're not charging $1,000 per seat, let me know as I'll be on Kent Island in the very near future and I'd very seriously consider purchasing those from you.
  6. Well, if I end up with this MJ, you can have 'em as long as I can find some tan, cloth buckets. Leather and doggy nails don't really go together well...
  7. Seesh - talk about dedication to fixing the problem. Kudos to you and hope the problem is fixed. I think a lot of people would have just sold the thing with no A/C and would have claimed, 'just needs to be recharged.' Thanks for being honest
  8. I actually really like that for what it is. It can't be used as a TRUCK, but it's tastefully done, at least.
  9. What oil pan gasket did you use - the cork type or the blue, rubber one? What torque did you tighten the bolts down to?
  10. Looks nice! I'd like to see more shots of the interior.
  11. States like to use NADA to determine the value of a used vehicle for tax purposes. Got a letter here in front of me that says my '91 Wrangler is worth $4,350 according to NADA. Wish that were true...I could maybe get 4 grand for it if it was in absolutely perfect condition.
  12. Do you see any areas that may indicate that or is that just speculation? For the record, I'm looking to buy (well, trade) for this Jeep. Possibly a Cherokee Limited? Also where the seats came out of? leather... woodgrain... idiot lights? I guess all of the 'good' parts weren't stripped from the suspected XJ donor vehicle...

  14. Looks like it was well cared for and in good shape. Wondering if this is/was a member's on here and if anyone knows anything about it.
  15. What's the point of a sale/trade without some pics?! There are some real ugly pics in there from when I first got the Jeep. I could be that person who tries to hide the bad and only show the good (like a fat girl on Facebook), but I'm not trying to hide anything. The Jeep was pretty rough when I got it...body still isn't all that great, but better than it was, that's for darn sure!
  16. I like that I've basically forced my body to no longer be tired after getting 5-6 hours of sleep per night. It wasn't an easy adjustment after my 8-10 hour/night of sleep during college, but now the days are longer and I usually get more accomplished :)
  17. Although a 10 year old computer sounds old, my favorite computer that I own is my 2.8GHz P4 w/3Gb of RAM and Windows XP Pro that I bought in 2002. Still plugging away and has been rock solid for 8 years - much more stable than my other desktop with all the gizmos and gadgets (well, gizmos and gadgets from 2006 when I put that one together). I also have an IBM ThinkPad laptop from the late 90's that I love, but thing needs a new screen and they cost more than I paid for the thing...
  18. When I had my '99XJ mine did something similar and it nearly caused me to get T-boned as I pulled out of my driveway immediately after starting it and tried to beat the oncoming traffic. The XJ stumbled and had no power and the traffic wasn't slowing down. Eventually just hit the brakes and backed it up. I never got to fully diagnose the issue but it would only happen to me when the XJ sat for at least a couple of days so I attributed it the fuel pump not building up enough pressure in the rail until after about a minute or so. One of the things I noticed between that XJ and my '01XJ is that my '01 will NOT start if I have low fuel pressure at the rail. The '99XJ started up no matter what - even if there was low pressure at the fuel rail. My theory was that my fuel pump wasn't able to 'keep up' when the engine was first started but would gradually build pressure and it wasn't until the normal pressure was achieved that it ran flawlessly. I didn't really know what else it could be since every sensor on that truck was either new or checked out good. I always wanted to have a fuel pressure gauge inside so that I could see exactly what was going on at the rail when I first started it and it did it's stumble. I sold it to my girlfriend's mother so now it's her problem ;)
  19. Tick, tick, tick...
  20. This must be what some of the CL nuts are looking prior to listing their Comanche's. There was a '91 4cyl, 5spd MJ near me that just sold for $500 (possibly lower). The guy originally listed it for $1200 and over the course of two weeks lowered his price to $500. I called him last night, but it was already sold. Looked halfway decent, too.
  21. Not only is it simple and easy, but it saves a TON of bandwidth. I've hosted forums where images could be attached and uploaded to the forum server. Yea, it was a nice, convenient way of doing things, but after about a year of this, the site got incredibly slow - so slow it was unusable. The solution was to purchase an expensive server upgrade package, which I was in no position to do and the only donations I was receiving for the site went straight to the domain name registration.
  22. My morning is never good. I have a 7 mile commute to work that currently takes about 35-40 minutes because the geniuses at the planning board decided to do road construction on 3 adjacent roads all at the same time...one of which is my main route to work and the other two are alternates. I now have to do a biggggg loop around multiple towns to get to work. Idiots. Sorry for pooping up your happy, good morning thread :waving:
  23. It's really not that difficult and it's FREE. Instead of just giving up on it, give it a shot - you'll be surprised how seamless it can be. If you can spend the time to learn forum code as you so gallantly attempted to do in your signature, you can learn to upload a photo and copy/paste a web address in a post.
  24. MY qualms with CL have nothing to do with the scams. Those are incredibly easy to spot. Often times the scammer will list an e-mail address to contact. Just put that in addy in google and if you get multiple hits from CL in different regions of the world - scam. Plus if it's too good to be true, it's most likely a scam. The people that refuse to answer me is what aggravates me. I guess I should just consider the items being sold by the mutes not really for sale at all...
  25. Here are my thoughts. What's the point? The 4.0L engine isn't a powerhouse struggling to breath because of a restrictive stock intake design. Adding a fancy K&N filter isn't going to net you enough horsepower to justify the cost. The only thing you'll be able to do is brag to your buddies that you have a K&N. Snorkel? Do you actually NEED one? Are you fording rivers? Given this year's summer drought, I doubt it. 9 out of 10 snorkels I see on 4x4's are only there because the owner thinks it looks cool.
