  1. Threw the guy a follow-up e-mail and still nothing. Probably a lost cause, but I'll keep bothering him until I get something back! Is there any way to tell if this truck is a 4x4 just by looking at the front hubs? Were those alloy rims an option? I've seen them on a few Waggy's and other J10's. Did they only come with a certain trim package?
  2. Still no response from the guy. Typical Craigslisters...seems like whenever I'm serious about buying an item on CL, the phone number isn't listed.
  3. Thanks Jim. I'm not thrilled with the price either and I'm interested to see how much wiggle room I have with the seller (if he ever gets back to me). I also have some vehicles in my stash that I'd be willing to put on the trading block if it came to it. A big deciding factor for me will be the amount of body rot on the frame and the body. I've got enough of those types of Jeeps and I don't really need to add another 'rot repair' Jeep to my collection. I don't have all of the right tools/materials for it and I don't really find it that enjoyable. Engine/trans work is a different story - I'll do that all day long. Another thing that will make or break this deal for me will be the engine. If it's got the 360 V8 in it, it'll be a lot more appetizing to me than if it has the straight six. I'd plan on using this truck for all of the home repairs I have planned in the near future - including, but not limited to - clearing 1 acre of overgrown brush, building a deck, and other miscellaneous tasks. I would also like to haul my motorcycle in the bed and it would be good motivation to finish my single axle trailer restoration :)
  4. I can certainly sympathize as I once had a 200 lb. guy leap over his hockey bag and land right on my right foot with his ice skates on. Still got all my toes thank god, but it left a really nice gash ;) Here's to a speedy recovery. You don't realize how important your toes are until you've severely injured them and it makes it damn near impossible to walk for a couple weeks.
  5. http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1813541309.html I was just nosing around CL at work and stumbled upon this little guy. For an NJ truck, the body sure looks clean. E-mailed the dude, but no response, but I'd love to take a look at this truck over the weekend. Can any of you tell me a little more about the truck just by these pictures? I'm FSJ stupid, but have been visiting the IFSJ forums to learn :)
  6. They're fun vehicles. I picked up a '91 with the 4.0L for $500 a couple months back. I also had an '89 with the 2.5L in it when I was in High School, but sold when I went away to college. Plenty of people daily drive YJs, but between the two that I owned, I never found it to be all that great for DD'ing. On my '89, I usually kept the soft top on all year round mainly because the Jeep had been in a really bad accident prior to my ownership and the body was never fixed quite right so the hard top sat a little funny on it. Although I never had anything major stolen from it, if you live in an area where crime is high, don't plan on putting anything of value in it. My current YJ is nothing more than a toy. I drive it on the weekends and sometimes take it down to the beach. Any complaints I have of the YJ are all washed away when I'm cruising down the beach streets with the top down, doors off, tunes blaring, and three friends singing along. This past weekend we needed to do a beer run and were all too lazy to get up and do it, but my buddy said 'If I can take your Jeep, I'll go.' I handed over the keys and the rest of the day was saved thanks to the Wrangler. A couple more of those moments and I'll consider the thing 'paid off.' Only picture I have of my '89: My current '91:

Do the XJs have build dates on the door stickers like the MJ? I wonder when my '01 XJ was built...could I have...the LAST one?!!? Edit: I answered my own question. Date of manufacture was 5-00....maybe I have...the FIRST one!!??!
  8. No, you DO get it.
  9. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that statement (and I'm too lazy to search to find out), but I certainly wouldn't be surprised. I can probably count close to a dozen JK Rubicon's on my way to work in the morning (and it's only a 7 mile commute). I stopped by the Jeep dealership a couple months back and of all the JK's they had on the lot, 75% of them were Rubicon models. I'm not sure how well built the JK Rubi's are, but the TJ versions were pretty bada$$.
  10. Mine may have the corners chewed up from mice, but I've still got them and they're still legible!
  11. The condition of the paint is in surprisingly good condition. Your Olympic Edition is in much better shape than mine: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21973
  12. It's cool! I was sharing the same sentiments as you. But, I do have that little glimmer of hope that maybe...just maybe... I'd even consider selling off some of my vehicle fleet to get one.
  13. Will they just do it already: http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/06/is ... arket.html I feel like they say the same thing every year. Put up or shut up. Unfortunately, if they ever DO put out a mid-sized pickup, it won't look anything like the Gladiator.
  14. Welcome. I saw that MJ up on Craigslist and was going to take a look at it if it was still available later this month. Good to see it went to someone who appreciates what it is :) My GF lives in Stevensville and I'm down there often. Whereabouts in MD are you from?
  15. Agreed. Love when the boss is out of town, too. I can't really go any more than a couple of days, though as it just gets too uncomfortable with me, especially in the summer. When I come home, I'm always outside doing work and sweating. Facial sweat + beard = gross.
  16. Electric razors are awful for your neck, unless you enjoy it being red and irritated for the first couple of hours in the day. I used to shave at my bathroom sink and it would take me about 10 minutes every morning because I'm essentially shaving twice - once with the grain and once against. I've got some tricky areas too, like right under my lower lip and above my chin...always some hard to reach hairs in there. My neck is probably what takes me the longest. I could skimp out and leave some stubble, but I try to get as smooth as I can because if I do it right, I can sometimes skip a day of shaving - depending on how much sleep I get the night before. When I don't sleep much, my facial hair doesn't grow as much.
  17. The MJ is a rare vehicle, but it doesn't have a very large following - except on this board, of course. I used to be big in the import tuner world (and still own a '91 3000GT VR-4) and I got to see the Toyota Supra Mark VI go from a rare, moderately priced 2-door sports coupe to a vehicle so outrageously priced, you would think that god, himself, drove it. Although many will say that it was the Supra's ability to be safely modified and tuned to insane HP numbers that brought it's value up, but the plain truth is that Hollywood did it by featuring it in The Fast and the Furious. I've seen salvage-titled Supra's with gobs of Bondo and misaligned body panels go for $12K+ (keeping in mind that they are 10+ year old vehicles). I guess I'm just upset I didn't buy one before their resale value sky-rocketed...
  18. I was thinking of writing him an e-mail saying something to the extent of, "Your ad is a typo, right? You meant to put $400?"
  19. ...because you're living under a rock. http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1794710135.html Believe me, I'd like nothing more than to see the resale value of our beloved trucks increase due to their rarity, but sometimes you just have to face reality. He sounds like a bitter man that paid too much for a rusted MJ and had to spend a lot of time bringing it up to snuff. Cry me a river, buddy, and welcome to NJ - your floors are going to be rusted and the rear fender wells are going to have some rot. Speaking of the bed, way to scrap it and chose to put on what is likely to be a gaudy wood-sided bed. Congrats. Your plans for the truck have just lowered its resale value. Also, way to tear down 75% of the engine, but not change two gaskets that commonly leak. If your welding skills are anything like your spelling or grammar.... :rotf:
  20. If you have thick, coarse facial hair and you need to be clean-shaven for your job (or the ladies :brows: ) then don't even consider an electric razor. Believe me, I spent big bucks on the top-of-the-line electric razor when I first got my job because using a normal razor was taking up to 10 minutes. Even with a normal razor, I need to shave with the grain first and then reshave against the grain if I don't want to look like a neanderthal by the time I leave work. The electric razor always left stubble and I looked like I had a five o'clock shadow the minute I walked into the office. Luckily it had a 30 days no-questions-asked return policy so I was able to get my money back. I've stuck with the Gillette Mach-series for the last several years and couldn't be happier. The blades are expensive, but you need to look out for sales at pharmacies or large wholesale clubs like BJs or Sam's. I bought a 100-pack from Sam's club before I went to college seven years ago for a little over 100 bucks and I just used the last replacement blade a couple months ago.
  21.   That body looks to be in exceptionally good condition. Also, judging by Mike's previous post, there are lots of good, new parts on there :) Thanks again Mike for giving us all the heads up on this MJ! And thanks Jim for going to get it - we can all rest easy that it's in the best of hands now. Edit: Is there a sunroof on that truck?
  22. Congrats! A guy in my office just passed it and has been studying his butt off for the PE in October. I missed my shot at taking the FE when I was still a student. I'd have to study an awful lot to remember all the junk they taught me in school. That stuff has gone out the window for me...
  23. I found this absolutely hilarious - crossposted from to the OP's thread about taking this truck to Sacremento: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23706 Somebody owes someone a bus ticket...
  24. Great story! Thanks to Mike for keeping the MJ in the family and thanks to Jim for making the 5 hour round trip to get it! And a special thanks to Colorado for not hauling the thing away :) Now - on with the pics!
  25. Poor thing...
