Hidden Winch Design Proposal
terrawombat replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I drew up a drivers front tow point bracket tonight that incorporates the steering gear bolts for additional support locations, which I see you have also done with your design. But, upon designing the passenger side, I noticed there aren't many existing holes over there to tie into. In fact, the only holes I see are the three front bumper bracket holes. Was wondering what you did for your design. My passenger front tow point bracket is likely going to require that a few holes be drilled through the frame rail. -
Hidden Winch Design Proposal

Let me know if you need some assistance fabbing up the plates. -
You guys have gotta make the April Fool's joke a little more believable :D BTW, my GF DOES have an '06 TJ. White Golden Eagle edition:

Yea, pingpong has a build thread over here too. I just signed up on Pirate 4x4 not too long ago - mainly to contribute to their Torchmate plasma CNC subforum - but some of the builds over there are just downright impressive. It's a ton of fun going through each one and seeing the ideas and money that is dumped into these rigs.

Sucked thin? Like it collapsed on itself?

Ok call me crazy but are you mis spelling "Camanchee" on purpose? :peek: It's an April fools joke by the mods. Any correct spelling of the word is changed to that. You'll also notice everyone talking about XJ's. Your response will look silly once the word "find and replace" is turned off :D

Needs to be saved ...........

About an hour and a half from me, but my Jeep fund is tapped out at the moment. Donations welcome :D -
I picked up a set for $50 shipped with a ever-so-slightly cracked water drip tray. Soon to be found on my 5.9L Comanche (it's only fitting). I prefer to keep my HVAC ducting inside my home, not on my Comanche :D

Stiil looks like an HVAC vent :D

Got the new rubber on the rear. I was able to get the old tires off myself using a 4x4 piece of lumber and my MJ. Put a little bit of air in the tire (5psi), place the 4x4 on the tire and drive up and watch the bead pop - flip tire over and repeat. Now, getting the new tires on was a whole different story. I eventually gave up and gave them to my Dad, who took them out to a guy he knows who put cleaned up the rims, installed a new valve steam and mounted the new tires for $12 each. He had a pretty nice machine to do it and even he complained about how stiff the new tires were. Put the wheels back on the quad and took it for a good spin today in the muddy weather. Definitely a lot of fun, even for a 2WD. My parents have a 1999 Honda TRX300 2WD, 2000 Honda Rancher TRX350 2WD, and another 2001 Honda Rancher. I've ridden on those for thousands of miles and I have to say that they ride 5 times better than the Big Bear. Even with the tires all set at 5psi and the shocks on their softest setting, the Big Bear bounces me around like crazy. Also, the higher handle bars seem to make the steering a little wonky and I'm not quite used to it. But, all in all, not a bad little quad for free (well, $300 in parts). Still need: Front brakes bled Clutch adjusted (seems to slip a little in 1st) Seat recovered Front light bulbs replaced

Project Croc Hunter '92 MJ
terrawombat replied to gaucho919's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
But if you do, I may know another '92MJ that would love to have it :D Oh, and welcome! -
LeBaron hood vents look like garbage. It looks like someone at Chrysler was flipping through an HVAC ductwork catalog when they were designing those. 5.9L ZJ hood vents all the way - at least they have some style and their water drip trays actually work as intended.
-
Oh geez, that's just broken in. If you (or her) don't get too attached to it, I'd flip it for some easy cash.

Those Magnum V8's aren't HP monsters, but they deliver plenty of torque. How many miles are on it?
-
I think you made out better with this rig, to be honest. Once you figure out the short, you can easily double your money on it. Tires look like they have great tread, body looks to be in good shape (maybe a dent or two on the drivers fender). What are your plans with it? Just another to add to the stable?

Looks like a 1993 or 1994 ZJ Laredo :D

Color me confused - those pictures show a ZJ.

If I bought a brand new vehicle, I'd most likely start it out on synthetic and keep that going for the life of the engine/car. However, I only buy used heaps, normally with zero maintenance history, so I just use conventional and it has never once let me down. Oil changes happen every 3,000-4,500 miles on autos and 1,500-2,000 on motorcycles for me. I have never been able to justify the added cost of synthetic because conventional has never let me down and I've never had an engine fail because of it. There are plenty of conventional vs. synthetic engines photos out there to try and convince you that synthetic is the superior fluid, but 95% of it is marketing that's intended to sway your opinion. For my Jeeps, that don't pump out too much HP, don't rev high, and are fitted with an engine that is notorious for lasting 300K+ miles, I'll stick with conventional.

The pre-97 style HVAC controls made me LoL. I still think there should be an A/C switch that turns the compressor on/off in ANY position.

IE9 crashed on me when I went to view the Microsoft Office theme download page. When the heck did you download Google Chrome when Google Toolbar wasn't compatible with it? When it was in Alpha stage? You may be the first IE proponent I've met. Ever.

I am very sorry to hear this. Losing a four-legged loved one is never easy.

Haha, thanks. It was a freebie from work. Prints just fine, but a little on the slow side...

Got a couple more things installed on the bench. Need to start cleaning up the wiring. I also want to get a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can put them up and out of the way and free up some workbench real estate. The LCD is on the smaller side, but it's also a TV so if I ever get cable down here, I can hook that up too.

Got the used muffler, hit it with the wire wheel, cleaned it and sprayed it with some engine paint. Here's why the thing was so loud before: Got the airbox back in and fired it up. Seems to run pretty good and I took it for a test drive around my shop and then ran outta gas. Was fun while it lasted, though! Also got the near rubber for the rear. One of these days I'll get to that.
