  1. Whoa, slow down there haus, . don't throw out the whole bushel beacuse of one bad apple. Craigslist maybe a little sketchy at times, but it has some real worth. Haven't thrown the site out - I use it almost every day to search for items. I have a program running on my server that picks out keywords I specify and then e-mails me notifications when new ads pop up with said keywords. Most of the used crap I buy is from CL, but the overwhelming majority of sellers on the site are completely unmotivated and don't have much desire to move product. One of the reasons I like ebay is that when someone has to take the time, effort, and financial expense to list an item, they almost always follow through with the sale. CL being free is a double-edged sword - you get a lot of variety and people coming out of the woodwork to sell items, but also get a lot of folks who really aren't interested in selling, they just want to see what they can get.
  2. Appreciate the offer. Might throw up a few scans on here if I can't figure out the translations myself. Still trying to obtain an electronic PDF copy of this manual. I found this on the Autodata website: http://www.autodata.ru/pdf/3553.pdf It's a PDF of the table of contents of the book I just ordered so it looks like an electronic version may exist. Going to contact these guys and see if they'll sell me the whole thing. Already translated the TOC and it's looking like it has the exact wiring diagrams I need.
  3. Etiquette on Craigslst? LOL! That place has no etiquette. It's a cesspool of lowlifes, lowballers, no-shows and tire kickers. Only thing is has going for it is that it's free.
  4. I'm not paint expert, but I do know that POR-15 is some THICK stuff. Most of the paint I've sprayed that has gone on smooth is far less viscous than POR-15. Like mnkyboy said, I would have reduced the paint by adding a thinner to it.
  5. Paper. Normally I prefer paper copies over PDF, except in this case. With a PDF, I could copy and paste the Russian into Google and get an instant translation. Now I'm going to have to type it in manually using a virtual Russian keyboard - more time consuming and more error-prone, but still doable. Although I may be able to get a very good hi-res scan of each page and have Adobe detect the words. I've done that before with English scans, never anything in a different language.
  6. After a long and arduous search of the intarwebs, I conceded and purchased this: http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/5139592/ I was able to find some pictures and scans of this manual and it does, in fact, contain the wiring information that I'm looking for. Unfortunately, it's in Russian so I'll have Google Translate close by. Luckily, the color codes on the wiring diagrams are still in English.
  7. How did the inspection go? Need more pictures - particularly of that garage. As a recent first-time home buyer, I can tell you that the next few weeks can be rather annoying. I got pretty lucky that the sellers of my house needed to get out...and get out fast...so they made a few concessions on their part which made it easier for me.
  8. Congrats! Although I've never seen a garage setup quite like that one...
  9. In terms of power the Cummins 4bt will poop on the merc. Reliability between the two is a toss up. Fuel mileage the merc might have the edge.

    Np231 Chain

Nice - thanks for the link. Might pop open the case on the XJ one of these days. Doesn't get driven much so now would be a great time to do it. Wonder if it can be done with the TC still in the truck...
  11. lolz IT people like to play the blame game. I do it all the time :)
  12. Just received a notification e-mail. The format looks a little different than before so maybe that was causing issues with the host's e-mail service...

    Np231 Chain

I'm pretty sure this is what the chain my '01XJ looks like. Since I've had the Jeep there has always been a clunking noise when I'm cruising along and step on the accelerator to maintain or gain speed. Pretty sure that clunk is the slack in the chain. Always wanted to break the transfer case open and replace it, but was never sure if you could just buy the chain by itself - good to know you can. Mind if I ask how much the chain set you back?
  14. Just so everyone is clear - 4BT is a Cummins engine and is in no way, shape or form related to the Isuzu 4BD1. They both have the same displacement (3.9L), but that's about the only similarity.
  15. In 1999 Jeep went with a single color interior on the dash, which was the smartest thing they could have done since that agate/grey mist combo was horrendous.
  16. Dunno when it happened. E-mails aren't getting through and they're not going to my spam folder either. Checked my e-mail filters and nothing preventing them from getting through. Am I the only one?
  17. It's about 90% complete. I was planning on bringing that truck down to MD from NJ this summer to finish up the swap. Every time I go up to my parents place in NJ I'll tinker with it a bit. Haven't taken any pictures but there wouldn't be much to look at. Last I remember I had headlights, turn signals, headlights, starter relay, washer motor and horn working.
  18. Looks all too familiar: Only difference being that I had the factory wiring diagrams so that was just a matter of finding the right color wire and hooking it up. I did get a few wires traced out last night. I can now get power to the PCM and IDM (Injector driver module) by simulating a 'key on' position. Also found the starter wire that will need to be attached to a relay, but I can apply 12V to that (with a large spark) and get the engine cranking. Need to setup a remote fuel canister with return and see if I can get this thing to start up. Judging by the low-pressure rubber hose connected to the diesel injection pump I do not believe these engines had or required a lift pump. I know the Mazda passenger vehicles had a primer pump mounted under the hood, but I should be able to hook up fuel, crack the injector lines and bleed out the air to get it primed.
  19. Ah, Visio - forgot about that program. We have a program at work for making all of our wiring harness drawings called Mentor Graphics Capital. It's way overkill for what I need so maybe I'll check out Visio. Nightmarish may be an understatement. I'm a glutton for punishment...
  20. Am I the only one not getting e-mail notifications for replies?
  21. I started doing loop checks last night, but I need to nail down a good way to record all of the wiring information so that I can remember it down the road as this is going to be a long, drawn out project. If I can get my hands on an ECU pinout, that would be fantastic. I've scoured the UK and Aussie forums looking for one, but have come up short so far. I'm going to join up on a few of them and ask around. It seems there are people out there that have paper copies and have helped out some folks who have asked for specific diagrams, but I haven't seen an ECU pinout for a diesel yet. I'm also not sure if the Aussie's even got the diesel in their Mazda 3, 5 or 6 - I know the Brits definitely did. The scapper in Japan did a decent job of keeping most of the wiring harness intact, but they did cut a few wires here and there, but I've already figured out where they need to go. The biggest issue is a giant harness connection that went inside the cab that they snipped off - probably has about 20-25 wires in it. I suspect some of them are for the ignition switch - probably some power wires in there supplying an interior fusebox. Probably also have the wires in there for turn signals, headlights, wipers, etc - none of which I'll use. Also found the relay that powers the ECU - just need to trace the wire back to figure out how to power that relay. I think the starter relay was inside the cab and was snipped off so I'll have to grab another - can bump it over with a screwdriver for now. No plans for 4WD yet, but I'll look into it when I get to that stage.
  22. I have some access to alldata, but it doesn't have what I'm looking for - only has domestic US vehicles. Still looking if I can get my hands on a European or Japanese version. Obviously, parts will be an issue. Luckily, this same powerplant is used in European Mazda 3, 5, 6, MPV, and some others. I've already been able to source critical engine component parts (timing belt, tensioner, alternator, injectors, injector pump) from outfits in the United Kingdom and Germany. I'm going to pay out the whazoo for shipping, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Got connections in the UK that may be able to help me out.
  23. The MZR-CD is based on the basic Mazda RF diesel. They basically just rebranded it the MZR-CD after they added the Denso commonrail system. The RF's are known for good reliability and decent power. The turbo and commonrail fuel system is supposed to help that out some. I don't recall there being any balance shafts on this particular engine - I think that only appears on the newer (>2008) 2.2L MZR-CD.
