Preferred Oil for our "older" engines???

...but you could take it a step further and look for the ACEA A3 or A1/A5 rating. Silly Europeans testing their oils further than us. -
Preferred Oil for our "older" engines???
87Warrior replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I will only run a ACEA A1/A5 or A3 10w-30 oil in my Jeep 4.0 engines. You can see my reasonings here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19409&start=0&hilit=ACEA I always ran Castrol SynTec in my Jeeps but used Castrol Edge last time since I could not find the 10w-30 SynTec. Both meet my desired specifications and work well in my 100k TJ and 190k MJ from -20 degrees to 110. I did notice when changing the oil in my girls Camery that the Valvoline Synpower met the ACEA specification. If you do fall in love with an oil, be sure to watch the lables. The manufactures change the formula and specs more often than most change their underwear. -
Pete, I hear you but is the cost to cut the vinyl much greater than printing, ignoring the initial file alteration cost? I only ask because I could build a vector file in Illustrator next week that could be used by a cutter. I did it for the rubicon owners forum sticker a couple years back. Just a solid color vinyl cut out sticker. :typing:

Anyone looking for bed-side Patch Panels?
87Warrior replied to jpnjim's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Glad I checked back to this thread! Zach you should be able to expect an order of floor pans and rockers within the next few months from me when the truck heads to the body shop. Thank you for providing such an awesome resource for these seemingly forgotten trucks! -
April 2010- Slowly making forward progress on the truck. Got the bed removed and started getting the frame rust ground down. Looks to be in great shape so I will simply soda blast it then coat in POR 15. I am working towards pulling the drivetrain before blasting the undercarriage. One more afternoon and the engine, tranny, and tcase should come out with out much trouble. How she sat this afternoon: Image Not Found

I like the idea of the sticker and the message. Very creative! However I really do not like printed stickers, only vinyl cut.

Whoops, I meant ACEA. I am far from an expert, but it looks like you are running something designed for an oil burner.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have an engine leveler and had planned on using it. Sounds like a very do-able plan. Jim- do you have to remove the front axle to drop it on the floor? I have to keep it as a rolling chassis for now. Do the early HO 4.0s use the same fuel line quick disconnect as the newer ones? I have a set that was used when I yanked my TJ engine.
-
I would like to know if it is possible to pull the motor, tranny, and tcase as one unit out of the MJ. Is the front support brace removable? How back heavy will the unit be if chained up by the back of the block? I know the set up will be heavy, but I hope to use the front end loader on the Deere. Any tips, suggestions, or advice?

Does your oil meet or exceed the AECA A1/A5 or A3 specification? Had a big discussion about that a few months back. Top half of the 4.0 is like an airplane motor, have to keep it lubed. I would personally stick with the 10w-30 oils. The NAPA filter is probably fine.

Jason- you say DD, but you end up with a decent truck that turns into a bigger project than your current Jeep... Ask me how I know. I joined the club searching for a DD. That lasted a couple months. Now I am back to DDing my TJ on 35s... Oh the madness!

She's a beauty. Crazy how a 20+ year old pick up truck can get 40mpg, yet today they can hardly squeek out 20mpg in todays trucks.

I have seriously been considering one of the wireless back up cameras for an under carriages spotter. At Advance they have one on display, and the picture is really clear. Plus they are around 100 bucks. Sure you can't record, but that is not important to me since I don't do video stuff.

There is nothing like qtec for the MJ. In all honesty your best bet is here at the club. If it is made for the MJ or can be modified to fit the MJ, somebody here has done it before.

I have no problem with chrome or Jeeps driven on the street. That guy did a fantastic job at that photoshop. I'll see if it can be taken to "the next level".

I am just about as far east as I care to go. Been to the East and have no desire to spend any more time there. The west is where its at!

In the middle of the morning traffic rush last week, I look over at this white car who was driving like a see-saw. The gal behind the wheel, was using some clamp device on her eyes with one hand and putting on lipstick with the other, steering with one knee at 45mph. I worked my way around her quickly. Most folks are bad drivers. Throw in a distraction and they have no reason driving. Most jeepers are great drivers. We understand the dynamics of the vehicle and are generally ready for anything. I don't text or make phone calls while driving. Plus I absolutely hate talking on any phone.... Driving time is my peaceful time (unless in the city).

:agree: The rubber bushings on my RE SF arms would be shot every 3-4 months. Yes, I torqued the bolts down with the vehicle weight on the tires. Got fed up with their BS. 3 years ago I went with JKS and have not had any issue with them. You could also consider Rokmen. If I was in the market for short arms today, Rokmen would be my choice.

The truth is I am a sucker for the 97+ XJ front end. Hence why I am going with it. The chrome also looks great on certain colors.

Replacing the calipers should not set you back much if you bring in the old ones as core replacements. Maybe you are imagining the 'drag' in the Dakota because you are used to the high power MJs. The hot brake parts are just the result of the over worked engine and residual heat. :brows:

2011 Grand Cherokee and it possible Alfa brother!

:agree: The WJ was also the end of the real front axle. Not very important to pavement pounders, but I don't like how independent handles. -
Just don't let em get too hot. The wheel bearings might fight you.
-
Yank the calipers and rotors and get new. That much heat is not good for em. My next order of business would be to flush the fluid/lines and see what happens.
-
Nice work. Bet the extra wheelbase helps with some of that pucker factor.

If it is based on that 'benze platform I don't think it will carry the driveline to support a decent tire that we would all like.
